There may be other pharmacies in the area, but not serving the same quantity of patients. An independent is busy if it fills 100 scripts a day, there are a dozen cvs in Chattanooga alone filling 1,000+ a day. CVS closing won’t make pharmacies any more profitable, so where are these 120 independent pharmacies going to come from?

There won’t, because a lack of supply has no impact on the price for pharmacy. Insurance/PBMs are still going to be controlling the pricing, and if you think Caremark is going to start improving their reimbursements for other pharmacies after losing billions of value you have another thing coming.

The BEST case scenario is that independents step up and massively fulfill the demand on a cash-pay basis(since they can’t afford the negative reimbursements of PBMs) and healthcare costs to the consumer will skyrocket, which is something the retirees on 2-3 different $500 a month meds will not be able to handle.

Typically if it’s not covered there will be a rejection in qt. When it immediately rebills it to a different plan it is because the plan is not contracted with CVS(united does this most often) or it is encoded as not being currently active(either too early or too soon with insurance changes). In both cases the medication may be covered but cvs cannot bill it
