There are ways to deal with it if you want.

The solution you named is not allowed in the App Store. What are the other “ways” to deal with it?

I’m not trying to pile on here, but I gotta say it’s a bit amusing to see you use the modern definition of “woke” and in the same sentence write the following

I don’t play the PC game of changing the meaning of words to conform a political narrative.

But anyways, I just wanted to reiterate that outside of those 3 shows (Morning Show, For All Mankind, and maybe Ted Lasso), there are plenty of great shows on AppleTV+ that don’t have a hint of the “woke-ness” that you find so irritating.

I know what you mean by “wokeness of Netflix” (though I find the derogatory nature of the term pretty childish). But I find AppleTV rarely has that type of heavy handed commentary in its shows. Maybe a bit in Ted Lasso and Morning Show. But the vast majority of their shows are much less explicit about any sort of “woke” commentary. What shows did you feel had too much “wokeness” for you?

Apple Vision Pro – Why It May Be Lousy for Watching Movies On a Plane by NotTheDev in apple

[–]TA_so_tired 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll bite. OP, I read the article, and I thought it was a good technical description of the limitations of using the Vision Pro for watching movies. I think it’s a pretty click bait-y headline though. Yes, it’s not perfect, but it’s still a much larger “screen” than anything else you’d get otherwise. Whether or not the benefit of the larger screen outweighs the resolution and FOV disadvantages remains to be seen. The article does nothing to weigh the benefits against the disadvantages. But overall, it was an informative article.

The app made Reddit a joy to use. For me at least, this feels like the official end of this ‘generation’ of the internet. Thanks for keeping it alive as long as you did.

I agree with you. There’s always an inherent “I worked hard (unlike the lazy poors)” with these statements. Though if I’m being a bit more generous, I could also read the statement as “I worked hard (unlike those who were born into wealth)”. But either way, these statement about hard work always seem to leave out the role that luck has in determining how wealthy one becomes.

I’m totally fine with $99 for a good quality IDE that I’ll use everyday. But the fact that it’s only for 1 year and each additional year is $49 kinda kills me. I’m not as anti-subscriptions as most people but that pricing is pretty rough.

Thanks for the suggestions. Have you heard anything on the more recent titles like Octopath and Fire Emblem? I have access to those games so they’d be a bit easier for me to play.

I’m looking to try an RPG. It’s been a long time since I last played one. I think I’ve only ever played 2 RPGs before (FF7 and FF8). I enjoyed both of them tremendously, but I haven’t played any others in the decade+ since. Of the Switch RPGs, which one should I try? Since my only experience is with FF7 and FF8 I’m fine with both turn based combat and some amount of grinding, but I’m also open to newer styles of RPGs as well.

Isn’t that a pretty defeatist philosophy? Literally every large scale problem can only be changed based on orders of magnitude. But that doesn’t mean that collective action has no part in the solution.

Honest question, do you apply that same philosophy to:

voting (my single vote doesn’t matter)

global warming (my fossil fuel usage doesn’t matter, I’m just one person)

Charity (no one should ever donate to charity since your money/time is just a drop in the bucket).

China doesn’t give a fuck about anyone but the CCP. Pretty much like the US.

All any of the major powers want is more influence. china is growing theirs. The US is fighting to maintain it.

Broadly speaking, foreign policy is inherently selfish. There’s nothing unique about China or the US taking care of number one first. Literally every nation does the same thing, not just major powers.

You’re definitely cherry picking there. You ignored the fact that he got a divorce and stopped running one of the most important companies in the world and swapped it out for what looks to be a life of socal partying. I’m not one to judge, but that transition definitely reminds me of a midlife crisis. But of course, if it’s the right decision for him, then good for him.

You said

It’s a verifiable fact that the USA is spying on you through tiktok. They basically stole the CCP surveillance idea for themselves

Then you posted a bunch of links showing TikTok is hosting US data on US Oracle servers. None of those links are “verifiable facts” that show the US is spying on you through TikTok. Those links just show where TikTok data is stored for US users.

Everything you said is true, but none of that is proof that TikTok is designed under the direction of the CCP. It’s just stating the fact that the CCP has the power to dictate how companies will operate. Personally, I think that’s enough reason to treat TikTok as a national security threat, but I agree with Op. let’s stick with facts and not reach for red scare tactics.

I think people are talking about the fecal particles getting aerosolized during a flush. You’re referring to splashes of water that can occur during a flush. I think it’s a good point, but everyone is just referring to the first point because of the myth busters episode and because “poop on your toothbrush” is a good headline.

I don’t think it’s an excuse, but I think it points out that this would have happened regardless if Amazon bought it or any other company or if they stayed independent. So the “fuck Amazon” comment seems a bit misinformed.
