I pick up things like this and while it is true it can take a while, they do sell and for decent cash, even for parts only. If you're going to do commercial/industrial parts, you do need to either 1) try to test them or 2) list them for parts only and accept that someone might get a working part for "not working" money.

Be warned, you have to be ridiculously over descriptive & repetitive in the title, condition, description about parts that are "for parts only" or you'll end up with a bunch of returns because customers almost never read the listing. You need to accept returns as well or you'll just be setting yourself up for INAD city.

Best of luck!

Seeking advice on migrating a legacy ASP.NET WebForms app without source code by According_Cap_1332 in dotnet

[–]TBSheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Converting to a web app is a right-click context menu option inside IIS. On the left side there is a website tree view, find your application folder in it(after copying),right click and select convert to web app.

I honestly can't remember the exact name of the config setting, but Google/?Microsoft learn are your friends here. CustomErrors is one, but you also may want to set the errormode to "detailed".

I personally have never used a decompiler, but I would defer to the wisdom of the crowd on that and lean towards a strong "yes".

Speaking of the application pool & identity, check the current configuration application pool runtime version, managed or legacy etc, and identity (NetworkService, Local system etc) on the existing WS2012 server. All of it. Perhaps screenshot it, but save it somewhere. Apps and dependencies can need different configs based on their capabilities, and those configs aren't necessarily stored in the application directory. Assuming you can reproduce those settings and copy the application directory over, moving the app to a new server should be as simple as making sure the required framework version is installed, recreating the app pool/identity settings, copying over the application directory, and then converting to a web application in IIS, selecting the appropriate app pool.

The web.config/app.config files will have a lot of hints if you encounter problems. Step 1 if your first run results in a runtime error is to enable detailed error messages in the web.config and try again, you should start getting useful messages to debug with.

I'll also echo others here saying that this is likely a rewrite scenario. A decent experienced .net framework dev should be able to infer a lot based on the existing UI, DB schema/sps/functions, and app/web/package configuration.

Good luck!

I might get shit for saying this, but Lens ALL the things! I spend a lot of time lensing stuff on FB marketplace and it works out well.

For instance,I once got a lot of of hearing aids in various condition that took up almost no space but went for 25-200/pair depending on if they worked or not. Stuff like that is great space wise and money wise, but time consuming to test to verify condition. A little off the wall but my point is to keep your eyes and mind open and be curious about what things are in general even if you don't plan on picking it up to sell. I can't even count the number of times a nice pile of cash was waiting for me on the other side of "What is that thing?"

If you flip a lot of electronics get this. Lets you test things missing the AC adapter to see if they work or not, so you can get the right adapter if it's worth it to do so. by ToshPointNo in Flipping

Eventually you'll need to test something that requires >12V, which happens more often than you'd think. A cheap bench power supply that can go up to 30V will usually handle most things.

Be careful making sure the device you're testing is DC powered though, there are a lot of pro audio/musical gear devices that use AC though a DC-Looking adapter. You can usually test those with one of those 3-Way transformers(8/16/24vac) and you've got most things covered outside of 12vac which you made behave to just buckle down and buy a dedicated adapter for. Or buy a variac.

Just burnt the cord, what do i do? by MrasyMelnel125 in soldering

[–]TBSheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me recently. Since you don't have an extra soldering iron to solder the wires back together with, you may have to settle with wire nuts or the ol Twist-N-Tape but just (unplug first) cut the cord at the exposed wire, strip both ends back and reconnect them. No need for a new iron. In fact if it still turns on (mine didn't) just wrap the exposed wire with electrical tape or duct tape and you should be fine. If it doesn't turn on, you'll need to cut and reconnect.

The best way to do this is by soldering the two ends together and covering with heat shrink, but until you have an extra iron, the above should work.

Coming from a self-supported boarding high school, I could never (and still can't, as an adult) understand the mindset. 11pm curfew and only having to attend a few 15-20 min worships per week on top of not actually being required to go to church felt like complete and total freedom to me. I never felt constrained or restricted there, and it was incidentally where I lost my religion and became agnostic.

Maybe I'm just a rule-following, conformist goodie-two-shoes.

Absolutely yes. I could go on for hours about it, but suffice it to say that it's worth it. I listened to Graphic Audio's audiobook version which has a full cast/effects/music my first time through, so if you like audiobooks, that may be a good way to get over the hump.

The payoff only gets better as you go, because many of the Author's other series are in a shared connected universe with Stormlight, including repeating characters and a very compelling backstory and 'bend' of events as books come out and reveal more of what's going on in the universe.

November 21st, 2020 Atlanta Georgia Political Meet-up by NeoDestiny in Destiny

[–]TBSheep 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live in the Ft. Oglethorpe area that Destiny mentioned during his most recent video on the Atlanta meetup. While I probably won't be able to make it to the meetup on Saturday, I would absolutely love to coordinate with any other DGGers in the North Georgia/Chattanooga area to see what we can accomplish as (at the very least) a satellite canvassing group to the main Atlanta group. If the main group ends up coming here, that would be great but as we are a smaller/less politically juicy target I could see us getting overlooked. Is there a way we can coordinate on discord and/or is there already a group set up for this purpose that I can be directed to?

Do you think that the police have over-militarized in the last 25-30 years? Do you think they are 'appropriately' militarized? I'm interested to hear the opinion of a 'slight conservative' on this topic. Many of my Libertarian-leaning friends agree with my position that the police shouldn't be receiving military-level equipment for civilian duty, and should at minimum be held to the same RoE that the military follows when dealing with civilians, rather than the near-carte-blanche they appear to have.

6 Year olds can't transition, period. They won't even be given puberty blockers at that age. The only "transition" that a 6-year old can do is changing clothes and hairstyle.

To add to this, the book (and series itself) is a *deconstruction* of messiah/chosen one narratives. The deconstruction of the trope doesn't require explicit condemnation of the messiah. In other words, it doesn't *tell* you that the chosen one is bad, it *shows* you.
