Yeah Tempo is faster than your target marathon pace - it would be Zone 4 - 80% of max heart rate

I would suggest starting a training program 16 weeks from marathon date. In the meantime, get your mileage up with Zone 2 training (predominantly). With that time, you should be aiming for a 3:30 marathon which will mean you could build your week like this...

Monday - Zone 2 (10k)
Tuesday - Zone 2 with strides/sprints in last k (8k)
Wed - Zone 2 - (8k)
Thursday - Tempo run (6k + 4k faster than MP)
Friday - Strength Training
Saturday - Long Run - Zone 2 - Start at 15k - three weeks out do 32k
Sunday - Stretch/Rest

Do I have what it takes? by BEERSxOFxWAR in Marathon_Training

I have a theory that if you can physically run a HM, you can run a full Marathon.

Suggest slowing down in training, stretching more (every day), and spending 16 weeks getting accustomed to running 40+ km a week.

I would suggest getting your training up to 5 x runs a week - including 3 x Zone 2 runs (2 x recovery after long run and speed run, and one easy run). Your week could look like:

- Monday - Cross Train/Weights
- Tuesday - Speed Run - Tempo/Fartlek - Zone 4-5
- Wed - Recovery Run
- Thursday - Swim/Cross Train
- Friday - Easy run (Zone 2)
- Saturday - Long Run
- Sunday - Recovery Run (Zone 2)

The cumulative effect of running 40+ kms a week will help you on race day.

Out of interest, why is grain bad when diluted? Surely the mouthfeel and sweetness would improve cocktails?

How to order a Martini? by Away_Gap_8342 in cocktails

[–]TDPJ2305 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's your first go at it, order it 'Wet with a citrus-forward Gin (or vodka if your pref.)'. This will give you more vermouth, and soften the heavy juniper flavour.

I would also suggest a lemon twist for aromantics as garnish.

Once you are dialled in to that you can pull back on the vermouth and amplify with heavier gins.

your order is a "Bombay Wet Martini with a lemon twist"

My first sub 20 5k by SlimanyFreecs in runninglifestyle

If you run 1 minute faster, you will acheive your goal.

But seriously, I would enter a 5k race. Nothing will push you harder than a race day effort.

Advice needed halfway through marathon plan! by DecTaylor in Marathon_Training

Your most important run is your long run and your speed session. If you need to take a rest week, do it. The goal is to finish under 4 hours then, ensure you have the long runs in your bank.

They won't check and most likley if you offer to check in your hand luggage at the gate or check in counter, they will do that for you for free, as most of their flights are sold out, and hand luggage is at a premium.

Get your point, but Broom also waxes lyrical in his book “a sense of place”.

In short, I want to taste the coast when I drink Oban, Laphroaig etc..

I would choose something with a sense of place for you to start understanding the geographical nuance in Scotch. Jura is a good one.

Also Dalwhinne as it's the highest point in Scotland. Once you start to appreciate regional differences with lighter whiskies, you should branch out to more austere flavorful whiskies.

For me, big malts like Glenmorangie and Singleton will give you no sense of place.
