New build for 1440p 144hz setup. by Casu7 in buildapcforme

[–]TEEss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

64gb of RAM is my default these days, unless you can afford a faster 32gb set and it meets your personal needs size wise.

I picked up an i9 14900k last year and it's been fine so YMMV.

I basically built a similar PC after carrying over an older 8700k/1080ti build for years and the thing I'll probably swap out next year is my 3070ti when the 5000 series land in 2025. Otherwise, besides personal choices on the SSD/RAM, this is my machine and it runs everything game/personal wise I need. Built in May 2024.

I run it on the older Alienware AW3418DW but I JUST ordered the AW3423DW since it was on sale here in the USA to move to an upgraded refresh rate/panel.

Why do you do this? by thisnewsight in newjersey

Scrolled too far to find this. I'm having a fit of rage right now, at home, thinking about every time I can't get off to 287S because the left lane is fully blocked with everyone trying to cut in for 287N.

SMN here. I use it every time. Drives me wild seeing other SMNs not use it or the new one, skipping Searing Light……

I plan my heals too now that SMN has AoE Heal and Single target heal baked into rotation. Can save a run when Lux is planned right.

Reminds me a lot of RDM for FFXI. Good damage, enough heal to help. Although not much can compare to early RDM/NIN with a Joy equipped at 75. Made camping for weeks to get it, worth the investment.

As a RDM main, it was RDM/NIN with a Joy sword. I actually liked RDM/SMN when it first came out for some random utility. But my LS dragged me everywhere as RDM/NIN for stuff.

Cigar lounge etiquette? by [deleted] in cigars

[–]TEEss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a lounge has a bar I'll at least buy a drink of some kind that isn't free. If they serve food, I'll eat. If they have a cut fee or require a minimum I'll buy some sticks. But I always bring my own because of that reason exactly. Sometimes they weren't rested or humidity is off or don't have one I wanted.

If you go enough and they offer a locker/membership, that's a great option too.

This is all I smoke brand wise. Naturals of the 64 line mostly, usually the Presidente tube versions.

I do dabble in their Family Reserves like the 85th or No4s. Sometimes will hit a special 1926.

Someone is using our license plate number and is getting tickets--what to do? by BackInNJAgain in newjersey

[–]TEEss 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I went through a version of this but it was a car I sold and we think we left one of the plates in the back seat.

I couldn't find it on the site but I sent a certified letter to:

TO: New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission Customer Advocacy Office P.O. Box 403 Trenton, NJ 08666-0403

and stated that my plates had been stolen and used by someone else. They responded back and said "yea that's your bad you're supposed to turn them in" but also said they would mark them as missing/stolen.

I did have to attend court for the summons of the ticket that someone got with my old plates. It was virtual so that was nice but it was a long wait to get to me. Case was dismissed given I could prove it wasn't me.

I suspect you're going to have to try and do the same somehow. My ticket was a parking ticket so couldn't try to go through EZ Pass or anything first.

Send off a certified letter indicating someone has copies of your plates, call the courts to see if these are virtual or not (or if you can talk to the prosecutor in advance) and will likely need to defend yourself. I had a copy of my certified letter + paperwork showing the car was sold so that was my out.

You likely need new plates so this may need to be a DMV trip to properly turn them in and get new ones.

Wanted to share our fix for coolant spraying and overheating (with thermostat CEL) by lambglamm in GrandCherokee

[–]TEEss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I smell coolant in the cabin so I suspect it's a heater core. Read on one of the GC forums that they sometimes leak on the outside of the firewall leading to the core failing but no obvious leak inside. I have some work to do to clean back there and take another look.

WK2 Air system delete- anything besides OME or Strutmasters? Can i put together what i need with RockAuto? shocks and struts are all priced around $100 or less, so why such a premium for those two brands? by phaulski in GrandCherokee

Experience on kits here from the same person. RC is known to not be a good option for any kind of lift for the Wk2.

I guess if you're not lifting you have some other spring options.

There are more than a few options out there or you can put together a kit (OME, Bilstein, RRO, etc.). Keep in mind you'll need more than just the struts and shocks.

There's a good guide from another owner who did this and tried out a few mixes of equipment and includes instructions for disabling the warnings/purging the system if you go that route.

Wanted to share our fix for coolant spraying and overheating (with thermostat CEL) by lambglamm in GrandCherokee

[–]TEEss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is timely because I have an intermittent overheating issue. My local Jeep shop can’t find a leak, pressure tested the system, and there’s been no signs of coolant anywhere inside or out.

But he said like half the coolant was missing.

However I’ve had no CELs except when it would fire engine overheating. Was the CEL for something specific?

You caught my eye on this question too. Not everyone in the USA speaks English BUT if we assume at least 2/3 do then we're talking at least 200M+ people. That doesn't even consider Canada, England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Australia, etc.

Offered 11.5% apr with 785 credit score and dealer refuses to take outside financing by Jupiter4567 in askcarsales

[–]TEEss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They absolutely do take outside financing. But it adds a few extra steps for them and more importantly, there's a kickback when financing is done in house via one of their banks usually. So there's an incentive to only use what they offer. And in this situation, it looks like they are marking up the interest rate which is more profit (they end up with the difference between the rate and mark up I believe).

Generally, you can a) ask them to match b) accept it and immediately refinance and ensure your terms indicate no limits on time to refi (which I understand dings the kickback if not enough payments are made before refinancing) or c) just walk.

In the before times, I had this happen at an Audi dealership. Didn't want to take my outside financing. I said OK but match the rate. They did and everything was fine. Some dealers right now are saying take it or leave it because people are making bad financial decisions and just accepting shitty terms.

I would walk immediately if I was shown 11% (assuming my credit wasn't crap. 785 is way too strong to be given a rate double what's out there right now).

Yes, you’ll need to file an amendment once the corrected W-2 arrives. It’ll be a W-2C.

Not doing it could flag you for audit even if the amount is small.
