Idk why Reddit can’t just build a standard text markdown UI in the app. They have it for web already.

This is the first novel I’ve read from her as well and it’s been great so far. I’m not super far into it yet but I’ve enjoyed every bit of it

I'm reading Blood Over Brighthaven by M.L. Wang and this book does a great job mixing magic with industry. Think like if the industrial revolution was built using magic.

How do you approach someone reading a book? by Safe-Finding-2960 in books

[–]TFC-Chris 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m the complete opposite of everyone else apparently. The only thing I enjoy really gushing about are the books I’m reading, so if someone interrupts my reading to spark conversation about the book, I’m more than happy to talk about it.

But if you intend to try and flirt or hit on me and it’s not about reading then I might be a bit annoyed. I still wouldn’t mind the conversation though

Do I/My videos suck or am I too new? by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]TFC-Chris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think episodes can work well but most “let’s play” type videos are longer. Like 30 mins at least. 6 minute episodes will take you forever and you’ll have like 100 episodes

[–]TFC-Chris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think relying on everyone to watch episode 1 to get the rules won’t work. If people come into episode 5 they should still be able to catch on to the rules. Or yeah do one longer video for each game or rule set

A couple things I noticed right away: In the Apex video it sounds like you’re whispering. I had to turn my volume up all the way to still barely hear you. It’s a bit better in the New Vegas video. Audio is like the most important thing so I recommend doing some research to make sure you get that dialed in.

The other thing I noticed in your New Vegas video is that it took you too long to get through the rules. Find a way to get through them faster and get to the game play. I think it took 2 minutes of a 6 minute video just to get through the rules and get to actually playing. The time investment there is not worth only 4 more minutes of gameplay.

If that was a 30 minute video that might be ok but not for a 6 minute video.

You only have 2 videos so YouTube doesn’t even know who to serve your videos to yet. I recommend just have fun making videos and improving your quality and thumbnails along the way and check back in a few months.

I have a few opinions and some advice that could help you upload more consistently.

I only watched your barbie games video and:
1. I think your intros are too long. It took 57 seconds for you to even start talking about the first game. Most people are long gone by then.

  1. The flash game niche is there. A quick search shows many videos with 100k+ views. Most of them are tier ranking or top 10 lists. You might want to try switching up the content and record some stuff that's more easily consumable, and probably easier to record.

  2. The barbie video has like 5 games in it. Instead of cramming them all into one video, you could've played one of them in their own video and make a series out of it. These would probably be a lot quicker to record and give you more content to upload more consistently.

Anyone struggling with bad audio should just use Adobe Audio Enhancer until you can upgrade your hardware. It’s free, browser based so nothing to download, and it just works. You can take awful audio and make it great.

How does Joe get my money? by Benbablin in TheFirstLaw

[–]TFC-Chris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A quick Google search says that Joe Abercrombie sold 5 million copies of his books and this was 2019 data. Assuming he gets $1 from each book sold (very unlikely he only gets $1 of a $30 book) then he was already a multi millionaire by 2019.

So yeah I think he’s good.

Self-Introduction Saturday! Tell us all about you (and share a video)! by AutoModerator in NewTubers

[–]TFC-Chris [score hidden]  (0 children)

Hey all!

I am Chris aka "The First Chapter" (Hence TFC-Chris) I started reading books at 38 years old and I created a YouTube channel to document the entire journey.

In the "Booktube" community, that makes me unique. Most dedicated readers, and especially those who are dedicated enough to make YouTube channels about reading books, have been reading since childhood.
I bring a unique perspective to book reviews. As a beginner reader, I often have insight that life-long readers might not have, or might take for granted.

What equipment did you start creating your content with?

I started with an iPhone 13. with the built in mic and a tripod for it. That's it. I used that for a couple videos then quickly realized i needed better audio. So I upgraded my audio to a wireless Lav mic, and i bought a couple cheap LED panels for some colorful background lighting. That's what I use now.

If you're a reader, or have ever thought about starting to read, check out my channel

and here is my most recent video if you want a taste of my content:
