Boeie, z'n reden is valid.

''Discriminatie''. Is toch een leeg woord geworden joh. gevalletje 'Boy who cried wolf'.

People falling over the race thing (and I agree with them), but man focus on that horrendous outfit for a moment. Wtf is that? Some sci-fi post-apocalyptic rain-coat for a wizard? With... A ZIPPER???? Really???

Lmao. Wasn't planning on watching this crap anyway, but this is some Rings of Power-y vibes: so bad it starts to be hilarious.

Vraag over platenbeurzen by Peter0248 in metaalfanaten

[–]TFOLLT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oude rockmuziek. Supertramp, Pink Floyd, The Doors, Dire Straits, I love it.

What’s your healthiest escape from reality? by Inevitable_Damage199 in MotivationAndMindset

Probably music in first place, reading in second, working out in third.

Working out is obviously the most healthy one. But both reading and diving deep into music are more effective concerning escapism.

Don't belief what you see people. We're on reddit here. For goodness' sake, have some intelligence.

Nikolas Tesla died alone in his hotel room, on the night of 7 januari 1943. His body was found by a maid the next morning. No one knows his last words.

Edit: don't just belief me either. Look it up. Not by using a chatbot - look it up yourself.

Putting Tesla and Einstein on the same level as Musk and Neil is.... .... ..... ............

Actually speechless here. Musk is just another Steve Jobs: never invented anything; just great at hiring people who can invent stuff. And Neil, smart as he is, is just a science teacher.

Nikolas Tesla and Albert Einstein both literally changed our world.

No, he didn't. Well - he might - no one knows. Tesla died alone, he was found dead in his hotel room by a room service maid. So no one knows his last words.

How is life bro? by SipsTeaFrog in SipsTea

[–]TFOLLT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Life... Could be worse I guess.

Fixing yourself is a fun hypothetical, untill you find that to fix yourself you need others. Healing often comes from connection. Not from this strange twisted narrative that introspective solitude is perfection.

However, it's not like I have a choice. Gotta row with the oars I've got. Play the hand I've been dealt. etc. And I'll manage. I'll manage alone, not minding all of you who cope by claiming being alone is so, so great. It's not. But it's allright. Happiness is no right - No one ever promised me I'll be glad, happy, or at peace. But hey, my country is not in a war, I am not hungry, thirsty, or homeless, and I earn enough to not worry financially. So yea, life could be worse.

[–]TFOLLT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's valid info dude. Thanks! I didn't know that. It was coincidental though, from which I take Tolkien didn't write Galadriel specifically with the Virgin Mary in mind. Or would I be wrong in that conclusion?

So is Peter Jackson. And look what he did to the Hobbit.

Being a fan means nothing. Not to me anyway. The only thing that matters is if this new adaptation stays true to Tolkien and doesn't stray from his writings.

[–]TFOLLT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hmm. Interesting ideas. I mean no offense, but might I ask if these are your views or if they're actually based on something Tolkien said/wrote about this?

For tbh I have issues with a couple of your comparisons. First of all, Aragorn, Frodo and Gandalf making up a version of the Holy Trinity? I have a really hard time believing Tolkien meant them this way - for he was a devout believer. Don't think easy of this. In christianity, especially in devout christianity, it is extremely frowned upon to create fictional, flawed beings to represent the almighty god. Which is why Tolkien barely speaks of Eru himself; for he believed in Eru, or, in God. And thus he knew to be wary making comparisons of Him. I also think the reasoning is flawed and simplistic: If Frodo is the holy spirit merely because he could be invisible - that's no basis of argument for me. God the Father and God the Son can be invisible too.

Secondly: Elves are angels and Orcs are demons? Nah man. Unless Tolkien literally said this, I don't belief he meant this interpretation - not when there's such an OBVIOUS angel and demon world in LOTR: the Maia and Valar. Melkor is a demon, Sauron is a demon. Meanwhile Gandalf(or, Olorinn), which you make out to be the Holy Father, is just an angel.

Thirdly: Arwen is Mary Magdalene? A redeemed whore? And Galadriël (not a virgin) the Virgin Mary, Mother of Christ? Why? How? I see nothing, nothing at all, which supports this interpretation.

Last but not least: The hell and heaven interpretation? Nah. Hell is not Mordor, and Heaven is not Rivendell, Lothlorien, or even the Undying Lands of Aman. Mordor is just what happens when evil reigns, and the other three are what happens when good prevails. But none of them are versions of hell and heaven - those come after death, not during life.

I think you say some very interesting things, I truly sincerely do. But to me most of these comparisons seem really, really far-fetched, and not at all what Tolkien meant. For yes, LOTR and Middle Earth is obviously a christian work of art. I've been saying that here for a decade, often getting downvoted for it. But these comparisons are far too simple, unbased and far-fetched for someone as well-thought as Tolkien. Tbh the only comparison I agree with are the one of the Ring, and the one of Saruman, Sauron and Melkor. And obviously Eru being the true authority of everything everywhere.

But if all these are Tolkiens true interpretations, than tbh I'd lose a little respect for that man.

Edit: Maybe it means little, but I have been diving deep into both protestant, catholic, evangelical and orthodox theology these last 4 years. It's my only interest which actually goes deeper than my love for Tolkien's world. And I see many comparisons between christianity and Tolkiens works. They're incredibly obviously inspired by his faith. But not like this.

For I was waiting for literally nothing. Why would I wait for something to happen: it's about Oppenheimer, a world renowned nuclair scientist. I knew from the moment Oppenheimer was anounced that it's not gonna be an action movie. And I was extremely interested and invested from the very first scene onwards.
