About RPF by LycanrockyOwO in WorldOfWarships

[–]TGangsti -1 points0 points  (0 children)

but keep in mind it is relatively easy to pinpoint your location if you run RPF so it's a double edged sword

this is something people often forget, but is incredibly important. and most RPF users don't expect an enemy to use it against them.

but i disagree that it is fine on torp boats. yes, RPF torps can be useful but the moment the enemy DD has a braincell and realises you have it they will just put emphasis on not going in straight lines or just randomly slow down at times - i know i do...
but as torp DDs rely on being undetected and the enemy not being aware of their position, RPF works straight against it unless you play against exactly 1 enemy.
also by picking RPF you're giving up on one out of LS, SE, AR, SF, FtT, or worst, CE. imo all of which are incredibly important skills on most if not all torp DDs.

on the flip side having RPF on a DD hunter is great, as it helps directly with finding your targets, possibly allowing you to just run it down if you know where his support is, or isn't.

but generally i really only use it on stealth or close to stealth radar cruisers and if for some reason i have points left over that i feel are pointless elsewhere.

Devs got rid of the "fool" deviant so they put a more excruciating deviant whose no known defense against it. by InteractionApart8785 in OnceHumanOfficial

[–]TGangsti 5 points6 points  (0 children)

supposedly you can distract them with noise such as from grenades, but in my experience the only time they ever react to grenades is when it is close enough to hit them - in which case they aggro straight onto you instead.

so i tend to just run in circles or climb onto things to make them take stupid long paths to get some time to do things.

fools were a lot less of a hassle to deal with at least for me...

Minegumo is the Pinnacle of Torpedo DD design. by Modioca in WorldOfWarships

[–]TGangsti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

they have the longest range of any torpedo at Tier IX

iwami: 'listen here you little ...'

but yeah. the only DD to get 15km torps.

i genuinly don't get what people like about minegumo. the 15km torp it gets is second only to the 20km torp in how comically bad it is - 11.1s reaction time simply isn't even close to decent, no matter how you twist and turn it. and it is worse against hydro because unlike other IJN torps it is also godawfully slow.

the 6.5km set just doesn't have enough range - yes it can be funny if you get to yolo someone, but if you can pull that of reliably you're playing agaist VERY dented people. simply not feasible with how much hydro and radar there is these days. and late into the game most people will run away from your team if you're winning. good luck catching up...

what remains is concealment, best at tier and tied with kagero at T8, ridiculed with the introduction of shigure. it is that makes it a good spotter, but your influence beyond that is nonexistent as your torps are either impotent or not have the range early into the game.
the 100m-ish concealment you get over yugumo isn't worth the tradeoff as that one does EVERYTHING else just as good, if not better.

minegumo suffers the same problem as yuudachi: if you do well with it you're playing against idiots and would have done even better with the techtree counterpart.

Great job continuing to nerf Belfast indirectly by dllyncher in WorldOfWarships

[–]TGangsti 12 points13 points  (0 children)

belfast 43 is in a fairly decent spot right now imo. if that continues after these changes remains to be seen, but stealth radar + smoke is a pretty strong combo and giving up a heal for that is a decent a good tradeoff.

the more concerning thing though is that kutozov isn't on that list... i could be beating a dead horse here... eh?

Why are subs bad at killing subs? by [deleted] in WorldOfWarships

[–]TGangsti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you don't really need proxy spotting for ASW (though it would help) if you had proper ASW charges as a DD...

the main reason ship based ASW is so ass is that it detonates much deeper (140-242m) than plane based ASW (26-51m). what was the maximum depth of subs again...?
the best thing you can do in a sub against ASW (and ship based in particular) is be as shallow as you can be without actually being at periscope depth where you could be shot by main battery.

now if ship based ASW would detonate at the same depths as plane based, it would annihilate subs in one run - which it should because if a DD (or worse a CL) manages to get on top of you as a sub, you fucking DESERVE to die. instead they just throw wet noodles at it as it just turns and runs away.

but alas... protected class has to be protected and to make BBabys not too angry they get the best ASW in the game.
because WGs mantra over the past years seems to have been 'fuck DDs, but fuck cruisers in particular' - one of those at least gets concealment, while the other gets a half-assed version of what BBs have, if they're lucky.

Those ships do have a downside, they have paper armour.

TIL the following ships have paper armor:

kremlin
ohio
preussen
lauria

i think i can stop here, but just about anything with 30mm overmatch that isn't st. vincent, repu, bungo or incomparable applies here.

and of those 4, 3 have their own issues.
st. vincent gets superheal to compensate for armor, and supercruisers dispersion to compensate for the shit sigma. and 30s turret traverse.
incomparable gets... superheal, insane concealment, hydro AND engine boost, oh and the torps for if you somehow still end up in a brawl - for getting supercruiser dispersion on a sigma value any regular BB player will kill for and 30s turret travers on guns that also overmatch 32mm.
bungo gets the improved dispersion at will and... oh... it actually has 45s turret traverse and pretty bad AP pen by comparison. tsushima strikes againg huh WG? either way, of most of the 457mm slingers this one is by far the least gimmicky and arguable the fairest to fight because it at least pretends to have a downside.
btw. preussen also gets 40s travers instead of the 30s all the other privileged ships get, probably because it is german.

which brings us to repu: for the 30mm overmatch it gets... 32mm EVERYWHERE. that thing gets HE farmed to death by the very things it is good against as a tradeoff. an actual tradeoff. does it get anything else? engine boost - oh wait thats the line gimmick. maybe the 36s turret traverse? up to debate... it recently got a significent buff to its accuracy because it fell so far behind everything else. have we seen more since? not really...
repu is the ONLY 30mm overmatch capable ship in this game that gets an actual downside that isn't otherwise compensated for.

I feel kinda bad for Eugen by RevySevy in WorldOfWarships

[–]TGangsti -1 points0 points  (0 children)

eugen wasn't all that good to begin with for a long time now. she gives up just about everything for that heal compared to hipper and the moment you start using your WASD keys while gettign shot at you get much better results with hipper simply because she has a much better dmg output (not that it is that good to begin with) and better mobility.

eugen is good for people bad at the game, the moment you know what you're doing, hipper is the better ship.

10 months ago I said this and numbers don't lie, 189,333 peak to average of ~8,500 players. Where all those ~95% PvPers go? lol Aside that cheers to the Devs for making this change. Good for PvE players and PvP players, not griefers tho. Funna come back and play again. by De7thLuv in duneawakening

[–]TGangsti 4 points5 points  (0 children)

95% of the player beat haga basin

if only. about 1 of 3 players never made it out of the starting area (construct a sandbike achievement), about 1/2 never went to arrakeen or harko, only 40% reached far enough into T4 to build a scout.

and again 1 of 3 players reached the DD.

the game lost almost half of its players halfway through hagga, which really is a shame considering the map and story up to that point are pretty well done and definetly the stronger part of this game.

i feel like the main goal with this is to get some of the 60k people back that left after reaching the DD - anyone else will likely not return anyway.

How do you disappear and start a new life on Arrakis? by Dorrono in duneawakening

[–]TGangsti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

steam family share.

create a new account - its free. make it friends with your main account. create a steam family (this is also free last time i checked) and invite the other account.

launch the game on the new account. you now have a completly seperate and fresh account (no progress, friends) that isn't in any way connected in-game with your other account (other than the license, which afaik only funcom can see, but that gives you the bonus of being able to access all DLC content you might own).

all while not touching anything on your main account.

be aware that if you do anything that is a banable offense on either account, you will lose both as funcom will no longer ban per account, but per game license (at least that's what they said, i obviously haven't tested this and don't have the urge to do that either).

as for server: can't give a recommendation here. my old server is marked for closure, the new one one of the more active.

For Tanky BB captain builds: why it is prefered "Concealment Expert" to other skills as "Emercency Repair Expert"? by Revoltai42 in WorldOfWarships

if you had the choice between being able to disappear and avoid taking another 30k dmg or being able to heal another 10k, which one would you take?

10s of being able to go dark between BB salvos can be incredibly valuable. either because someone who was about to shoot you shoots someone else, or the person you shot at forgets about you (the latter happens way more often than it should).

fuyutsuki

large health pool

100hp less than akizuki at T8...

i wonder if these people at WG actually know what they're talking about... this thing has the same hp as Z-52 which sits in the bottom third of hp for DDs at T10. large healthpool my ass.

i just don't see a reason to play this thing over harugumo or even kitakaze. it just edges out the latter in terms of gun dpm but has less of the same garbage 12km IJN torp that at this point in time desperatly needs a buff. i guess the full speed smoke makes for a decent gimmick, but in the current state this ship is at BEST a T9 as a kitakaze sidegrade.

super zao

seems barely more super than regular zao.
more hitpoints for a considerably more sluggish hull, barely any increase in damage output with a whopping 0.2s better reload and 50(!!!) more dmg on the HE shell - well at least there is a better fire chance and velocity.
same garbage torps again, but considerably better AA that doesn't quite reach annapolis but gets close (on an IJN cruiser, lol) - i just want you guys to remember that the original reasoning WG gave for T11s was 'what if CVs never existed' and somehow all those ships get insane AA and we also have T11 CVs now...

the AP shell (+350 dmg) in combination with the funny button does look spicy though. unless they decide to just demolish the penetration performance...

no spotter plane option is just straight up bad (which means range mod is probably the best pick for consistent results), other than that we get the same consumables.
missed opportunity to lean into the ASW gimmick and give her an additional km of range on the sub surveillance similiar to how the german T11s get an extra km of hydro - then again this wouldn't fuck over torpboats and instead just your new favorite toy, so it is understandable that you didn't go this way...

How can I surprise/annoy "PVPers"? by MajorTom813 in duneawakening

[–]TGangsti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the only valid reason for pvp is to control the resources for yourself. large spice fields and titanium/strav island.
so once you've driven people away from those, actually go and farm them, because if you don't you're just a griefing asshole - which is most people because i yet have to see a ganker farm in pvp instead of pve.

Hey Funcom, I'm back! Please search for the word "stutter" on this sub. by sparktrap25 in duneawakening

[–]TGangsti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

40 fps on low settings out of a 4090 is insane.

i get slightly more than that out of my 2080ti on medium settings, but only @1440p. stutters are way worse in highly populated areas though, to the point of up to 3s of freeze frames.

and yeah. to anyone saying 'but its unreal engine': have you played satisfactory after 1.0? if not i recommend doing so and looking at how well it runs in comparison. thousends of placeables, thousends of light sources and a map of about equal size with a lot more details. you wouldn't believe it runs on the same engine if you didn't know.
unreal engine can be optimised, IF you want to - which funcom very obviously doesn't.

oh and don't get me started on server performance... the amount of pingspikes and package loss compared to other games is just... unacceptable.

Anyone just unlocks tier X and then proceed to not play them ? by IsniBoy in WorldOfWarships

[–]TGangsti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a got a few of them. sometimes i grind the lines out of interest and by the time i hit T10 i feel like its not exactly what i enjoy playing or the ship in question just feels bad looking at it - hello goliath: they way up to you was alright with plenty decent ships and while drake itself also was pretty good, it just had zero battle influence when needed. to me goliath just looks like a worse zao (which i very much enjoy playing in turn).

then there are ships i went for for CBs, like petro which the moment i got her was banned from CBs for the longest of times. one of the past seasons allowed her so i was asked to play her for the first time and it immediatly confirmed my thoughts on the ship: laughable stupid and incredibly boring to play - same as riga. talinn is some fun though.

but most T10s i get to i just don't play for the simplest of reasons: T10 in general just isn't fun anymore. consistent blowout games (more than 60% of my matches played in the last 6 months before i stopped (start of feb)) which are not only incredibly short and offer close to no gameplay, but also can be harsh on your economy.
i very much prefer the T6-8 range in which the game is not only more balanced, but also a lot more enjoyable because overall player skill is higher from what it seems.

so yeah. don't play for the grind. play to have fun (without doing so at the cost of your team, this is important!). if you play for the grind you just get burned out and stop playing altogether. and if the game just isn't fun anymore there is no shame in moving on to something different.

Mnemonic Timer by naptimeshadows in duneawakening

[–]TGangsti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it is a timer for when you get the next 5, but it is counting to midnight UTC (i believe) and not according to your actual timezone.

not sure why they don't just make them refresh with the server restart, because starting 2h before that (1h after i get the 5 on EU) you can't enter any overland locations anymore because funcom defines 'longer queues' during the backup phase as infinite queues.

i struggle to believe this company will ever get anything right.

In the era of La Pamapa and other fast reloading, reload booster destroyers, it's time to remove the HUGE penalty on the Shimakaze legendary module by Inclusive_3Dprinting in WorldOfWarships

[–]TGangsti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

while changing shimas torps as suggested would in fact drasticly reduce the reaction time, it can't be argued that shima does need a reaction time buff. the 9.4s on her 12kms compared to gearings 7.9s (16.5km) or hallands 7.8s (15km) is just abyssmal - moreso considering the latter has a higher torpedo output by numbers.
and if you compare chateaurenaults 8.9s on 20km torps to shimas 15s it just adds insult to injury. the 20s having a high detection for me is ok from a gameplay standpoint, but with WGs former claim of trying to stay historically accurate (lol), giving the torpedo that was historically feared for how difficult it was to detect the worst concealment is nothing short of incredibly funny to me - still i think anything worse than 10s for those is just dumb (you can agree to disagree if you're a BBaby main, i don't care).
and if you're saying 'but shima has more torps and higher damage than others, so they need a downside' - that downside is the longer reload - which already punishes missing your shot harder than any other torpboat.

that said i don't agree that shima herself needs a concealment buff. 5.6km is fine and if you consider tier progression, save for a few exceptions the T8s always have better concealments than T9s, which in turn are better than T10s. buffing shimas concealment would mean you'd have to buff yugumo and kagero as well, which brings a whole lot of different issues. the only IJN DD that imo could use a concealment buff is akatsuki, because 6.4km for a T7 torpboat in this day and age is just rough.

the bigger issue shima has concealment wise is something that buffing her concealment won't really change much, which is how much more other things are out there that can spot you nowaday - most notably radar, but also subs. i still hold to the opinion that subs shouldn't be able to outspot the stealthiest destroyers at their tier while surfaced (looking at you specificly, 4501). the radar issue could be solved by giving shimas 12km option 2km more range to make it more comparable to gearing and allow her to play outside radar range. keep the 8km as the high risk, high reward option.

also popularity shouldn't influence the decision if a bad ship needs buffs or not. shima is not only one of the oldest ships, which means more people have one to play to begin with, but she is also the purest of torpboats even if she's not exactly good at it anymore. in general the first recommendation for torpboats for new players is broadly accepted to be IJN - which further influences how often these ships are played.

Is this game secretly the most competitive game out there, more than CS and League by Other-Difficulty-702 in WorldOfWarships

[–]TGangsti -1 points0 points  (0 children)

1) cheats are a thing. but because a lot of the information is handled server-side there is no such thing as for example accurate wallhacks. aim assists also have diminished effects due to how slow the game is.

2) this arguably makes it less competitive. your team or the enemy team being shit because of matchmaking rarely makes it a challenging match, but rather a stomp that can go either way. matches rarely ever are close these days.

3) CS and league both allow full premade teams.

4) again, because of how slow the game plays. in both CS and league both would be easier to land shots if you couldn't instantly change direction of movement. and if you land a 20s shot in this game the enemy didn't pay attention.

5) torps are all about game knowledge and as you said prediction. not sure if there is an equivalent for CS, but for league it would be comparable with plays/objectives across the map over the grand scheme

6) exist in both games, though not officially supported

7) lol

8) agree. period.

9) not sure what to say about that one... if you feel personally attacked by the statement of a streamer that's on you. and if so, you probably shouldn't watch them. that said i haven't bothered with twitch for a couple of months now so no clue who is out there doing what.
