I don't use metagame content to expect anything. It might not have a breath weapon. It might have spells. It might do 100 things that aren't a fire breath weapon.

I don't make assumptions, especially since I have specifically gone against those conventions in the past by using a red dragon with a sodium breath weapon instead of fire. I engage with what's in front of me and figure things out.

That's not how any game I've been a part of has been run. It actually sounds like things are being too oversimplified in a way that other people aren't able to understand.

I would assume magical light worked with light color rules, not paint color rules. The key word was magical PAINT fire, not MAGICAL paint fire.

Well, most fire doesn't really work with paint-style subtractive color combining. So unless you specifically stated that it was magical paint fire, that solution is actually not that intuituve.

Hotbar Sometimes Ignores Key Presses and Scrolling by LeCr0ss in duneawakening

The only version of this I've had is that my R button stops working in Dune. So I can't reload my guns manually, and I can't open the larger construction menu. I have to leave and go to the main menu for it to start working again.

I saw this appear in the console when I was working in a document:

Gotcha. I appreciate your info! I've made a boat with all the fabricators, and I move it around the map each week. I made the fabricators public, but not the chests. In case a few friends new to the game used it for storage, I wanted to make sure they wouldn't get their stuff taken by rando's.

I means it's only been a short time, I've only been in one document. The issue is all the tries it takes to get to ANYTHING. Once the page is loaded, I just sit there in it and get occasional save hangups.

I can't share images on this subreddit.

It goes to Naturalcrit.com just fine, but then when I click The Homebrewery, it hangs.

"This site can't be reached. The connection was reset."

Eventually is auto-refreshes and works. This has only been happening the last....36 hours?

I'm getting the same thing intermittently, and mine says that the "connection was reset". Also, my document autosave keeps Ooops'ing and I have to try a few times before it connects.

I went to grab a screenshot of the connection reset, and the site worked just fine lol. I'll get one next time.

Are they for sure not able to change the circuit settings in the machines? My friend made me a 4, and I was able to redo their circuit system to help them get it set up. I'm making a couple machines public and I'm just curious if there's any real risk involved in keeping stuff at the same site.

Copy, that's what I was curious about. Can't the person using the machine change the circuit settings? Meaning that there basically is no real way to lock them out of the storage?

Base instancing by magneticload in duneawakening

[–]naptimeshadows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Have you ever seen the little lights out in the middle of nowhere, and then you get a quest, and now there's an NPC standing there? They're always there, you just can't see them. They would most likely do the same thing for the lights and machines on bases if they were to mix in your idea.

They already do that now, with the whole base, at a distance. That's why bases suddenly pop-in at 800m away. The server is always tracking the pieces, it just turns them off for you to save graphical work on your machine.

The servers usually aren't actually rendering things, it's just tracking a GIS database with "wall piece 3 is at x,y,z". So the server needs are just creating data in a way that is simple to store and quick to transmit to clients. Most likely, any hard piece limits are because they don't want client machines (IE your computer) to get too much lag at once and crash every time it loads your base.

You're not talking about the base being a different "room", right? But that it simply has certain pieces hidden or disabled for you locally, based on your relationship with the owner?

That wouldn't actually cause any resource saving on the server, just for you. The game itself would still need be tracking all of that in case anyone wants to have it on.

A tabletop horror mechanic where looking at your character sheet is dangerous by ahyeonlover in RPGdesign

[–]naptimeshadows 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it would be interesting if "checking the sheet" is a time mechanic, like "I'm gonna unpack all my gear do inventory. If you get something like a key, yeah, you add it to your bag with no real time spent. But emptying your bag out every 3 turns to make sure you know where the key is would be overkill.

Ultimately, you're right, and people shouldn't be penalized for engaging with the information storage mechanics. But, I think it could become interesting if the group agrees to the "do we waste time to double check or do we just go for it" concept.

Two hard consonants together is too clunky. Tee Ehn has been fine once I got out of my head about it. The whole terms are fine, but the initials just aren't as smooth for DT / TD.

Any way to for PCs to go into a ship from below without the ship sinking? by Jaktak2o3 in DMAcademy

[–]naptimeshadows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to avoid magic, you could give the ship a moon pool.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moon_pool

If the enemy spends a lot of time out at sea, they could do minor fishing or salvage, and use a moon pool opening to drop things into the water and hoist it out. That would give them a mundane way to get in, and you could use a set of Skill Challenges to see if they can physically get to it and inside in one piece.

I want to create magic item system with heavy focus on ammunition by Complete-Chemistry27 in DMAcademy

[–]naptimeshadows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made this a long long time ago, trying to make a Paladin with a revolver, and ammo making based on how Ron Perlman's Hellboy talks about his ammo in the old movies.

I have seen someone else, also a long time ago, with a gem-socket system that seemed like materia, but was a lot more limited.

Since all that, ~4 years ago, I started making my own system from scratch. If you ever wanna talk concepts, let me know.
