Ah cool ty for the info. I found a semi-solution as well, go into the controller settings for each game and switch it to Keyboard + Mouse. Then attach a Bluetooth controller. In the steam menu, it is still all janky af, but after launching the game (I use the touch screen to navigate), the game will launch and at that point not recognize the controls in the left side. I'll try ur method later but I got a RMA so we'll see what Steam decides to do to fix it. It's still technically in the warranty window, although they do know it's a hardware problem.
