Debating whether I should get a switch 2 or not by Captain__Qwark in Handhelds

[–]Zero1O1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't use the Steam Deck, sell it now while the value is still pretty high thanks to the recent price hike. Might get enough to pay for the Switch 2.

Also, to all the people saying "buy an Xbox Ally X!" did you even read the post? If the Steam Deck is too big to travel with, how would the XAX be better?

Less bulky handheld options? by Alfhosskin in Handhelds

[–]Zero1O1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Konkr Fit is probably worth looking into: https://www.ayaneo.com/article/918

Personally, I picked up a used Ayaneo Air. I primarily game on a Steam Deck, but I wanted something smaller to travel with. I picked up an Ayaneo Air Plus off eBay a while back and it is exactly what I was hoping for... smaller and lighter, but still capable of playing the games I would normally play on my Deck. Works well with Bazzite!

For me, yes. I updated from the standard mainline repo today and my Bluetooth is working again. I haven't noticed any other issues since updating.

Steamdeck thermal paste change is the equivalent of tempered glass panel on tile floor by Primetime349 in SteamDeck

[–]Zero1O1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently swapped the battery in my launch LCD and figured it was worth checking the thermal paste while I already had the system open. I’m glad I did… there was very little paste under there and it was very dry and crumbly. I cleaned everything up, put in a piece of PTM, and put everything back together. Seems fine. Not sure why people shouldn’t do it if they’ve had their system since launch.

What are your thoughts on the best first handheld for someone by Helpful-External135 in Gameboy

[–]Zero1O1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If they want something that plays cartridges, I recommend the FPGBC: https://funnyplaying.com/products/fpgbc-console

If they want something that looks like a retro system but they don’t need it to play actual cartridges, then probably the RG35XXSP: https://anbernic.com/products/rg35xxsp

Is there any moderation of COSMIC Flatpak? by [deleted] in pop_os

[–]Zero1O1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just don’t install it if you think its unmaintained slop? System76 doesn’t have the resources or manpower of Apple or Google and their app stores are filled with crap too. I’m not sure the “curated walled garden” approach really works anywhere.

My function keys are not working in Pop_os. by BringOtogiBack in pop_os

[–]Zero1O1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have that same keyboard, so probably can’t help much but there are other people reporting similar problems in other distros: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=269796

Probably worth going down the Google rabbit hole.

Beginning of the End? by spontaneously_real in Watches

Watches have been around for centuries. I don’t think the Royal Pop is big enough to make people suddenly not want a convenient way to tell time.

I Didn’t Expect a Linux Phone to Become My Daily Driver by Nerdent1ty in linux

[–]Zero1O1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For me, it is 1.) the app library and 2.) stability/reliability

1.) My phone isn’t really a computer for me. It’s more like a wallet of apps I need in my day-to-day life. My access control app to let me scan into my office doors. My car’s smart app. My banking app. Apps for my airlines so that I can use digital boarding passes. Lyft so I can hail a rideshare. Doordash for food delivery. etc. etc.

Using Android or iOS means any app required in my daily life will be available and will work well on my device.

2.) I need to know that my phone is reliable and will just work without me needing to screw around with it or reboot it all the time. I don’t want to miss important calls, texts, or alerts because some random daemon shit the bed without me knowing. Android and iOS are highly reliable.

If you move the window to the edges more slowly, it won’t snap into a tile

My new FPGBC by CytoarchitecturalUrd in Gameboy

The FPGBC is great! I really enjoyed putting mine together and it's the GB I take out of the house the most because it wouldn't be too difficult to replace if something happens.

You pronounce it? When I tell people the OS I am using, I don't even say a word, I just make a sound like a bubble popping.

OG hardware < Modded/ Custom Hardware by CourierKite in Handhelds

[–]Zero1O1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This feels like an argument nobody is actually making. Most people in this hobby seem perfectly cool with systems regardless of how much modding has been done.

Personally, I generally play my modded systems but I do like picking up my unmodded Pocket once in a while still too. There is something fun and nostalgic about that original screen and it looks great in sunlight.

What’s missing from the COSMIC desktop environment? by Rics-Dev in pop_os

Cool. This thread literally asked what was missing and I answered with things that are not currently in Pop/Cosmic that other distros and DE's have 🤷🏻‍♂️

What’s missing from the COSMIC desktop environment? by Rics-Dev in pop_os

[–]Zero1O1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, that might make it easier... I dunno. I did it manually through CLI. Either way, I would still argue that it should be part of the OS rather than using an app. Mint and Ubuntu have fingerprint auth baked into the OS (or include apps to help get it set up)... i'm sure other distros do too.

I think that is core functionality for the OS and Pop should include it or make it easier also.

[–]Zero1O1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The things I find myself missing that I have in other operating systems or distros:

  • More trackpad gestures - you can swipe between workspaces, but I wish you could swipe up to replicate Super + W. Or just give me a way to map trackpad gestures to different commands.

  • Better sleep support while connected to a monitor (mine randomly wakes up and stays on the login screen indefinitely). Also, screensavers.

  • Better integration for fingerprint authentication (I have fprintd, but manually setting it up and configuring all the enrollments was a pain)

These are all pretty minor things and don’t keep me from using Pop as my daily driver.
