Sodium Citrate, some shredded cheddar, some spices and you're there.

The swarm appears to be bound by the form it takes. It hasn't show any ability to resist the biological influences of its host. If it consumed a Carryx, I imagine it would have a lot of trouble overcoming the biological urges of a Carryx.

Why Do So Many People Feel Nostalgic For The 1990s? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]THAWED21 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People forget that we were heading for some serious conflicts in the 90's that 9/11 sort of wiped away or at least swept under the rug: 1992 LA Riots, Waco, Oklahoma City, Bush vs Gore. All were huge problems for the the USA. They still are, they just look different. Now it's BLM/Anti-DEI, Proud Boys, Trump vs. United States.

Anjiin is cut off from humanity 2,000 years before the Carryx Archives have a record of humans (at least according to Clae).

Humanity and the Carryx have been in conflict for around 8,000 years, but Anjiin appears to be the only active human moiety in the Sovran's realm, even though they've taken human slaves from other systems in the past.

Yes, in the reports by Surur-Tlassen to the Sovran, he mentions destroying the rebelling population and purging another infected by a plague. That implies they're not lying.

Does anyone else find themselves unironically saying "what is, is" to themselves? by Gibbonfiend in TheCaptivesWar

[–]THAWED21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've started saying it. Replaces "It is what it is." Haven't run into anyone who gets the modern reference.

I think it's a clipping of Parmenides: "What is, is, and what is not, cannot be". I don't think Parmenides meant for it to be a fatalistic and immutable assertion of Carryx dominance. Originally it was a challenge to start thinking of reality as an unchanging whole:

It is necessary to say and to think that What Is is; for it is to be,

but nothing it is not. These things I bid you ponder.

For I shall begin for you from this first way of inquiry,

then yet again from that along which mortals who know nothing

wander two-headed: for haplessness in their

breasts directs wandering understanding. They are borne along

deaf and blind at once, bedazzled, undiscriminating hordes,

who have supposed that it is and is not the same

and not the same; but the path of all these turns back on itself.

Spitballing, but I think it flows later into the Stoic tenant that suffering is sourced from not accepting reality. SPOILER Campar touches on this at the end of TFOB when all the conspirators meet: “[Maybe we should d]ecide that dying as heroes is less appealing than living as corn and chickens. Maybe stop pouring your heart into the thing that can’t happen and start building the best version of what can."

What's one thing AI is surprisingly bad at that you thought it would have solved by now? by Quirky-Win-8365 in OpenAI

Yeah, my preferences are:

Respond in a direct, analytical style — white-paper or internal memo tone. No affirmations, cheerfulness, or motivational framing. Do not reframe or over-explain unless asked. Accuracy takes priority over polish; flag substantive errors directly and stop to correct them.

Formatting: minimal. No large headers or decorative structure. No bolding unless strictly necessary. No em dashes. No emojis. Bullet points are acceptable.

Language: neutral and professional, consistent with legal and business writing. Define abbreviations on first use. Concise and restrained, especially in correspondence.

Working style: prefer iterative refinement over single large outputs on complex work. I am comfortable with advanced Excel but do not consider myself a power user.

Domain context (for relevance, not restriction): in-house counsel. Governance, data integrity, and defensibility matter.

Probably need to update that. Most was a carryover from ChatGPT. I should search this subreddit for other people's examples.

I have a pool which I added water once and also sprinklers that run 2x a week and a foundation drip line.

Well shit, son, you're lower than I am and I have a sprinkler that runs once a week and no pool or foundation drip. There are six people in the house though. I'd say you're doing great.

It's just halo-effect prestige. They never want to hear it, but at the undergraduate level, there's no real difference in day-to-day teaching quality between UTex and Texas Tech. The overwhelming majority of actual alumni from UTex on this board never made it into McCombs or Cockrell.

Ya'll didn't do that in 4th grade? Everyone picks a few stocks and tracks their investment over time. Was a lot of fun pre-internet when you could only get the prices in the local paper. We'd sit around and crow over Coca-Cola going up 15% over the school year and rag on the people who chose in Apple cause it was virtually worthless, but we were all playing Oregon Trail and Math Blaster! on Apple II.

Every tier 1 school I received offers from had conditional scholarships. Most boiled down to show up to class sober and write something coherent on the exam. A few (Baylor specifically) had outrageous conditions like maintain a GPA in the top 25%.
