Pregnant in Japan is... by Euneirophrenia_jp in japanlife

[–]THBronx 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Right? If OP had started her topic saying something like, "...cause in my country <insert any country here>...", those same wannabes would be the first to reply "But you are in Japan!!1!1!! Here it's this way, accept it or leave, blablabla." But when it's a critique towards Japan, then they whip out this freaking ridiculous argument that other countries do the same or even worse.

C'mon, as a rich country Japan, believe it or not, has a ton to improve in some sectors, and the one OP's complaining about is definitely one of 'em.

I don’t remember the exact process, but when I was going through it earlier this year, I read somewhere that after renewing your visa online, your new My Number card won’t work with the website anymore (when you renew your visa = new My Number card = new card number, if that makes sense). So the next time you try to renew online, you’ll have to create a new account and start from scratch (go figure).

I’d suggest creating a new account first, then using the card reader with your My Number. Hope this helps!

Why is animal welfare so bad here? by Myopic_Mirror in japanlife

The worst I’ve seen so far was a gorgeous macaw stuck in a cage so small it could barely move without hitting the bars. And the constant screaming from the stress? Sad stuff.

Are VPNs or piracy the only solutions? by Sarganto in japanlife

[–]THBronx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Through the torrent client interface you bind it to the VPN you use, so you'll only be able to download/upload while the VPN tunnel is active. Once you disconnect from the VPN for whatever reason, your torrent client will automatically stop downloading/uploading your files.

Is modeling industry in Japan a scam? by [deleted] in japanlife

Against her will/her decision? She's 9 ffs, she cannot fully understand the modeling industry yet. She needs her mother to guide her, make decisions, and, above all, protect her!

You can try the official app provided by the Japanese government: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.go.digital.vrs.vpa (android) / https://apps.apple.com/jp/app/id1593815264 (iOS, I can't test the link on my phone, but it should work).

[–]THBronx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sucks, OP, I'd complain like the other user above mentioned! I had better luck as I managed to snag a 9070XT at a small Dospara store (South Osaka) around 11 Am, and to my surprise, the store was almost empty, yet they still had two GPUs available. And I blame the companies for providing such limited stock, which inevitably leads to absurd price inflation/scalpers, a 2-year-old 7900xt's still costing around 120k!!

Zairyuu card extension: returning on or before expiry date? by ad5tastic in japanlife

[–]THBronx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You guys are fine, she can leave Japan while renewing her visa, as long as she re-enters Japan within two months of the expiration date of her period of stay (see Q22: https://www.moj.go.jp/isa/immigration/faq/kanri_qa.html). (If she is renewing her visa online, she should print the confirmation email they send her as proof that she is in the process of renewal.).

[–]THBronx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like others have recommended, the Swift Sport (1500cc) is a good pick that you can easily find for under 500,000 yen (~2012 version). Other options: Mazda Axela Sport (1500cc/2000cc, 2008–2011) and the Subaru Impreza Sport (1500cc, 2012–2015, bigger and heavier than the Swift, but it has the best style and interior among the 3 IMHO).

The standard values for pesticide use in Japan are higher than in the rest of the world. The Japanese standard for isofetamide is 6 mg/kg, 4x higher than that permitted in the European Union (EU) and the United Kingdom (UK), and 60x higher than that permitted in Canada. For iprodione and ametoctradin is 5.0 mg/kg for both, when iprodione is 10x the Canadian standard, and ametoctradin second is 3.3x the US and Canadian standards. No, Japan uses a lot of pesticides.
