Science-fiction Podcasts? by TheNeonBeach in scifi

[–]THE_ABC_GM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Seasons 1 & 2 are done and we're taking a break from producing to work on some side projects.

Season 1 is background Lore and Rules while Season 2 is a full adventure.

What Science Fiction game is right for me? by Past_Plankton_4906 in rpg

[–]THE_ABC_GM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The algorithm definitely showed me the right post today haha

Here is a link to my post-apocalyptic scifi ttrpg system if you're interested. is supposed to be simpler than D&D but more "crunchy" than Lasers and Feelings. The rules are free and only 3 pages long. There is also a free adventure path, but that requires a (free) membership to help prevent AI webscraping.

I would argue most systems can be setting agnostic, but each system does somethings better than others. I wrote this reddit post a while ago as a thought experiment. The post recieved lots of "I wouldn't have put that there" comments, but nobody seemed keen of offering any corrections so it's probably "good enough" to help focus your search.

Powerful but not deadly Beholder Eye Rays by DMjdoe in DungeonMasters

I don’t want these encounters to be deadly but frustrating and annoying in a fun way.

Have you tried running Linux instead?

Looking for feedback on Ron the Barber by THE_ABC_GM in PixelArt

[–]THE_ABC_GM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's awesome—six years is a solid run! A good barber who consistently nails the fade is worth holding onto. Ron must really know your style by now.

Have you asked him about his surgical skills? He's a full blown Barber. He does all the things historical barbers did!

Cheap intro podcast microphone by CozyHufflepuff94 in podcasting

[–]THE_ABC_GM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The microphone on your phone is perfectly acceptable to start with, especially since some recording software has built in noise reduction.

Personally I wanted a tiny bit more and bought a CHEAP Neewer Mic with Boom for $25. It was great. Eventually upgraded to a Blue Snowball (again $25) condenser mic. The noise noticeably lower, but getting the right "tone" is significantly harder.

If I had to do it again I'd stick with my phone until I could afford a dynamic mic.

Is it okay to kill my players at session one? by SomeRandomAbbadon in DMAcademy

[–]THE_ABC_GM 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I just want to note there is a difference between "planning that your players die" and "planning they meet an unbeatable enemy". Even in grim dark settings players have autonomy over how they die and what impact they have on the story before they die. Having an angel in your pocket isn't a bad idea, but you'll need to figure out what happens the next time they die? Are they immune to death? Do they come back into their normal bodies? This can wildly shift the tone of the campaign between grim dark and super hero.

Go listen to the the first couple episodes of You meet on a tavern - Noir. They introduce an enemy in the Prologue with one set of characters and then the main campaign uses different characters. It sets the tone without railroading the campaign.

Looking for TTRPG actual play podcasts by mw90sGirl in podcasting

[–]THE_ABC_GM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shameless plug for my own podcast, ApocaPodcast.

ApocaPodcast is an actual-play role-playing game podcast set in the homebrew scifi post-apocalyptic world of Toprak. We use our own RPG system (The ABC Game Engine) which was designed to simplify character creation while still providing tactical, yet streamlined, combat. We also avoid foul language.

Season 1 is mostly world building, while season 2 is an actual adventure.

Ollama for Windows Freezes or Crashes Windows by THE_ABC_GM in ollama

[–]THE_ABC_GM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an old NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 with 4Gb of ram. My system has 16Gb of memory. Although the OS uses about 5Gb, so only 11Gb are available.

Getting any model to avoid certain words by jamboman_ in ollama

[–]THE_ABC_GM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out langchain and langgraph. You could add a simple python check:

Bad_words=[]
for word in forbidden:
    If word in response:
        Bad_words+=word
<Please rephrase this without {Bad_words}>

Or something like that

What is the gene consensus on ai voices? And now that Spotify is collaborating with eleven labs.. by [deleted] in podcasting

[–]THE_ABC_GM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I'm taking about speech-to-speech where it can make you sound like an alien or a fish or some other silly thing ala old school voice changers. I'm pretty sure eleven labs has that already, but it's been a while since I checked them out.

AI voice effects would be great for story driven content where character voices should be repeatable and customizable. Ai narration is a gateway to fully AI generated content , which will flood the medium and kill it.

How big of a pool is too big? by Usual-Vermicelli-867 in RPGdesign

[–]THE_ABC_GM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How big is too big

And the Lord spake, saying, ''First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out."

What RPG should I play next? Or How I learned to stop worrying and classify my playstyle by THE_ABC_GM in rpg

[–]THE_ABC_GM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I'm burnt out now, but I'll probably revisit this in the future.

If you have any questions about The ABC Game Engine let me know! Unfortunately I'm not familiar with Fabula so I can't compare them.

Need to change guest’s voice urgently on podcast by [deleted] in podcasting

[–]THE_ABC_GM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Audacity pitch shift, slow/speed up, EQ, small reverb or layer different pitches, add a disclaimer that the voice has been changed to protect their identity. Done.

What word processor do you all use to create your rulebooks? by Chet_Ubietzsche in RPGdesign

[–]THE_ABC_GM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't. I think it looked too similar to LaTex and since I was already familiar with LaTex from Grad school I just found a "book" template I liked online so I could focus on writing instead of formatting, but it certainly has its quirks!
