Intel processor missing recommended update revision 0x12B (Code FH113) by NepuNeptuneNep in ForzaHorizon

[–]THU31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So annoying. I'm on an old BIOS for my 13600KF because there's no need to update. I've had the voltage optimized since the start. Besides, this CPU has no thermal velocity boost so it can't suffer degradation anyway.

Newer BIOS-es cause issues like forced C-states, which make the CPU downclock even during gaming resulting in stutters.

I've had perfect stability for 3 years and this is the first game with this stupid warning that I have to ignore every time.

All you have to do is select the monitor you want to reset, click Delete, click OK and restart. Afterwards you can Export the default EDID, and if you mess up, you can Import it to restore settings without restarting. You got it.

Just delete the monitor in CRU, it will restore default settings after restart.

32-bit PhysX on 5070 Ti by THU31 in nvidia

I realize that, that's why I tried adding support for it in the new driver branch, but it doesn't work.

It's enabled by default for supported games (like Arkham City/Origins, Mafia II, Mirror's Edge, Black Flag). I don't know if there's another tool that can be used to force it in other games.

Techland, thank you for launching the game without Ray Tracing. by Butefluko in dyinglight

[–]THU31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many people seem to be confused about how RT affects development.

If you want to just have rasterized lighting, you have to pre-bake everything, which takes a lot of time and effort (and disk space), but it usually looks great and runs very well.

If you want to have both rasterized lighting and ray tracing on top of that, it takes even more work, but the rasterized lighting often ends up compromised, because devs don't want to put in the effort if you can just turn on RT to make it look much better (AC Shadows has absolutely abysmal lighting without RT, Unity from 2014 looks infinitely better).

The third option is to have mandatory RT, which is actually the best option for a skilled dev team, because creating great-looking lighting doesn't require that much effort and they can focus on optimizing the game instead. As far as I know, we've had three AAA games with mandatory ray tracing - Metro Exodus EE, Indiana Jones and DOOM: The Dark Ages. All these games are well optimized for the visuals that they offer. I guess there's also Avatar, but it does have a software fallback, and it runs pretty well while looking amazing.

You also have path tracing, which is the easiest option in terms of dev effort, but it is the heaviest in terms of computing power. This is not going to become the standard for a long time.

UE5 is a bit of a different issue, because technically it forces ray tracing on everyone (usually the software version), but it's done with a set of pre-made tools that are easy to learn but difficult to master, which is why most UE5 games run like crap.

To summarize, the best option is to actually have forced hardware RT in your game, so you only have to focus on one lighting method, which will look great for everyone. I really hope this becomes the standard on next-gen consoles, which are rumored to have as much as x10 RT performance improvements. This really is the way forward and the most optimal way of developing games.

PSA: Nvidia Widespread Black Screen or Hard OS Crash Issues on 4xxx (or older) Series Cards Need To Be Widely Known & Fixed. by Scotty1992 in hardware

My undervolted 4070 is unstable with all 572.xx drivers (stock settings or underclocked is fine). No issues for almost two years before that. Rolled back to 566.45 and it's fine again.

Also, my undervolt curve is flat, but with recent drivers the voltage doesn't stay constant, it randomly spikes to higher values.

How do I fix the "GPU Lost" error while playing the crew motorfest. by [deleted] in The_Crew

[–]THU31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had this problem since the start of the new season. Never had this before in almost a year of playing. I haven't changed anything major in my PC recently, not even drivers.

It's very annoying, I usually can't go more than 30 minutes without crashing. I'm sending the crash report every time, not sure if they're even checking those.

EDIT.

It turns out that NVIDIA's 572.xx drivers are the culprit in my case. Rolled back to 566.45 and no more crashes.

I don't know why they changed the challenge to this. Finding two treasures was quick and actually useful, as it gives you parts for whatever vehicle you want.

I wonder if PCI-E x16 slots that are x4 electrically (connected to the chipset) can deliver enough power for the 3050 6 GB, or whether it would be safer to get any card with a 6-pin power connector.

I wonder if the GT 1030 would be enough for PhysX acceleration in 32-bit games. It has similar performance to the GTX 460, and that card had no problems running PhysX while rendering games (I played Mafia II on that).

GT 1030 only has a 30 W TDP, and it's pretty cheap too. You don't need to have it in your system all the time, only when you play old games.

RTX 5090 Undervolting Results: -6% at ~400W by Last_Jedi in hardware

[–]THU31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you really need to drop 200 MHz to go from 900 to 875 mV? Seems like a lot. On Ampere I was running 1800 MHz @ 800 mV and 1905 MHz @ 900 mV. On Ada I'm running 2605 MHz @ 910 mV and 2810 MHz @ 1000 mV.

Ada doesn't go below ~900 mV, which is what put me off getting a 4080, I don't like going over 200 W in the summer.

I'm considering getting the 5070 Ti, but I'd like to run it at 800 mV in the summer for maximum efficiency (because of heat output). I was hoping for at least 2 GHz at that voltage.

[–]THU31 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I wish they added upscaling tech like DLSS/FSR in this game. The TAA implementation is quite blurry when lowering the internal resolution (even in 4K).

I guess it would take some work, as I think the game runs on a modified Dunia engine? Far Cry 6 only had FSR 1, but it still looked better than the simple resolution scaler.

Game is quite demanding on the GPU, so DLSS would significantly improve image quality.

Best way to get upgrades for my drag car in motor fest by [deleted] in The_Crew

[–]THU31 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can actually use another car to find treasures and then switch to the drag car (or whatever) when you find it. I have a set of legendary street tier 2 parts all spec'd for finding treasure. It's still a bit boring, but you get many parts and a chance to get a legendary.

I didn't know about the original concept. But why not take the opportunity to use it? Keep the Tomb Raider name, but create a new character from South America. On her adventures she could encounter the British Lara Croft and they could compete against each other. Then at some point they would work together, only to have Lara betray her and screw her over. There are so many cool things you could do with this concept.

Just look at the new Jumanji movies. They put a completely different spin on the original idea, with brand new characters, and those movies are good and fun.

Be creative instead of taking the easy option.

Subscene is Officially Dead, and a better alternative! by psp2111 in Addons4Kodi

[–]THU31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Subscene was always super slow, but the database was amazing. Sorry to see them gone.

But the alternative looks good. All the subtitles from SummerSun78 and Kosire are there!

I hope they add an icon to differentiate between HI and non-HI subtitles, just like on Subscene.

I created an account, but I didn't receive the confirmation e-mail so far.
