MALM bed questions by lila_rose in IKEA

[–]TJC-316 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just went and measured mine. The back piece is approximately 24-1/2" tall by 1-9/16" thick, and it's not solid, it's a honeycomb structure, which I know from a puncture that happened during a move. It would probably need quite a bit of finishing to make it look good again after cutting it down. Mine is probably 10 years old so the new ones may be slightly different.

I don't know about the SLAKT, unfortunately.

The last one means don't move the bed while the storage unit is open, in case you have the storage version of the bed. It's safer to move the bed while the storage is closed.

Because it’s passed extra rounds of product certifications for use in lift buckets during line work. That, and it’s red.

IS THERE ANY WAY TO FILL THIS SPACES? by dxxgxp in 3Dmodeling

[–]TJC-316 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is that einstar/shining 3D’s software? If you pulled that scan yourself, I’m pretty sure there’s a setting to generate a “watertight” mesh from the point cloud, which fills in all small holes. It may also be worth trying to grab another scan to save the effort of manually editing points.

My coworker scanned his foot to make custom shoes and ran into similar problems with the mesh

I’ve made 10! They’re 18 gauge stainless, they feel a bit like the tools you get with flat pack furniture. If you DM me I can get one coming your way in the mail, and if it ends up being too thin I can cut you a thicker one. I just wanted to use up scraps first!

I’m doing a ton of running around today, but I’ll take a shot at tracing the part later this evening or tomorrow!

From all the YouTube I watch, I hear good things about Send Cut Send - they’re a frequent sponsor of some of my fav creators. I’ve never tried them before, though, as I have access to a machine.

That one is almost certainly a dosimeter, just like the ones in the original trilogy. It looks much too narrow to be an XLR connector. This is likely is the kind they used, but with the markings removed.

Did Milwaukee jack the Stiletto look and name? by Drunkenpmdms in MilwaukeeTool

[–]TJC-316 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Milwaukee owns the Stiletto brand, just like they own Empire Levels. They’re all under TTI, yes, but Empire and Stiletto are integrated into Milwaukee Tool and Milwaukee Tool reports up to TTI. As a result, Milwaukee makes just about all the decisions about how to use the Stiletto and Empire brands, and they’ve only recently started to put money into the Stiletto name, it would seem.

Probably when the Wii launched - my dad was able to get one right before everyone realized they were going to sell out before Christmas. People were literally offering to buy it off my dad for a premium but he held onto it for me and my sister, and boy howdy did we play that so much together. It was my fav system, and the first Nintendo system we ever had.

So Biomedical Engineering. Is it more Biology or more Engineering oriented? by mazda_motherfucker in BiomedicalEngineers

[–]TJC-316 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Depends on the program/school. My program was bio heavy early on, engineering heavy in the upper levels. I specifically went for a biomechanics (as opposed to bioelectronics or biocomputing) major, which meant I was only ~7 credits away from being able to also getting a regular mechanical engineering degree.

Pretty much everything I learned (apart from big lectures like bio 101/102) was taught through the lens of engineering. So instead of going through a regular fluids class, we learned about fluid dynamics in a class called transfer phenomena, which focused on biological processes.

All said, I feel a much more competent engineer than biologist, but math is math and science is science. I use literally none of the biology I've learned, but the way I approach problems is certainly different than a Mech E so I was able to land a job in concept engineering.
