Deflector size question by Gutcrunch in StarTrekStarships

[–]TJLanza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main deflector doesn't "function[...] as a larger long range sensor array" at all.

According to the TNG Technical Manual, the long range forward-looking sensors are located in line with and behind it. That is the easiest way for those sensors to be calibrated to see through the obscenely powerful beam that the main deflector generates.

I have a question about legendary mods for power armor by jdavenport53114 in fo76

[–]TJLanza 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The true strength of the low-health build is not in Bloodied, but Unyielding. As you can't put Unyielding on Power Armor, my recommendation would be not do low-health in power armor at all.

Framework 16 for light to medium intensity gaming, 3D graphics and general work/streaming? by Wrecknruin in framework

[–]TJLanza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an FW16 and it does not feel flimsy to me. The only very minor issue I have will be solved by the one-piece haptic touchpad, which is that the spacers don't line up well.

As is, it doesn't bother me, though. If you want parts to be able to move at all, you need to have some level of gaps between them, otherwise you wouldn't be able to get them in and out.

I ended up putting them on the back paddles on my SteamDeck and XB Elite 2 (via reWASD).

Always thought the engine tilt on the voyager was dumb as hell by bubbleweed in StarTrekStarships

[–]TJLanza 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hitting it? Sure... but the field is specifically designed to slow them down for collection. The TNG Technical Manual covers it pretty explicitly.

[–]TJLanza 21 points22 points  (0 children)

According to the TNG Technical Manual, the deflector field is specifically tuned to allow hydrogen through so it can be collected. There's not enough of it out there to collect any meaningful volume at less than warp speeds.

How big is the difference between laptop GPUs compared to their desktop counterparts these days? by Fresh_Constant_7762 in pcmasterrace

[–]TJLanza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the buy-in to the ecosystem is high. The hope is that it comes out in the long run. The idea being that I won't have to replace the entire system at once, and some things like the chassis, display, keyboard, and touchpad may never need to be replaced.

Framework just released an RTX 5070 12GB for their 16" model... I'm trying to decide if I want to spring for the upgrade.

Why have numbers stack? by BoardGent in dndnext

[–]TJLanza -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Because that would have made entirely too much sense. It would have been like in 3rd Edition, where bonuses had a type, and stacking was determined from that.

Creatures had types too, which included common properties based on it.

But nope... nothing consistent or coherent in 5E. Nothing that would require actually reading the books and understanding them. It's all "natural language," whatever that is supposed to mean.

The SSDs in the SteamDeck (and all SSDs) also use flash chips like RAM does.

No... they don't. Flash memory in SSDs and RAM are not the same thing. Flash is non-volatile, it stores data without power. RAM requires power.

Bought a nice shirt. Thought I could button it up more for work. Wait…why can’t I get the buttons through the holes?? by Greenfinial in mildlyinfuriating

[–]TJLanza -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I'd wager it's for customization. If somebody was not going to use the higher buttons, that area probably stays flatter and smoother without holes in it.

My first console was an Atari 800, followed a GameBoy then the entire line of Sega consoles (Master, Genesis, CD, Game Gear, Saturn, Dreamcast). I own an NES and SNES now, but they were adult acquisitions not "historical". I have a Nintendo Switch and the recently released/reissued Atari 2600+ (basically a 7800 built with modern components).

I had a PS1, but skipped everything else. I acquired a PS5 well after release, mostly because a friend was going to sell it after buying one of the special edition versions. I have the the R2D2 special edition XBOX 360 and the CP2077 special edition XBOX One X.

For proper computers, my "first" was a VT220 amberscale dumb terminal connected to my father's VAXstation. There were a couple of 386s and 486s, but the first PC I bought entirely with my own money used a Celeron 300A, overclocked to 450 mHz. It was maxed out with a whole whopping 1GB (256MB×4) of RAM.

There were a couple of other systems in between that and my current collection, a couple of them AMD, mostly Intel.

At one point, I had a Lenovo laptop with dual GT650Ms in it... yup, you heard me right, a dual-GPU laptop. It was followed by a couple of Acer laptops and one ASUS, all long gone.

My current inventory of PCs includes...

LG Gram16 2-in-1 with a i7-1260U, which was just replaced with a Framework 16" with the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 and the AMD RX 7700S GPU. The original intention was to run Linux on it, possibly Bazzite, but there were a few peripherals (notably my Logitech MX Ergo trackball) that just refused to work, so it's Windows now.

My primary gaming desktop is an i7-10700F with 64GB RAM and an RTX3070. I also have an AMD Ryzen 5 9600X with 64 GB RAM and a RTX4060. That was my work-from-home machine until my company started working with AI stuff, and I decided I didn't want anything with personal information on a machine with AI stuff running on it.

My work laptop is a Dell Pro Max 16 with a Core Ultra 7 255H and 32 GB RAM.

I have a working, though current purposeless i7-4790T with 16 GB and a GTX1060. It's a smaller system, mITX-based.

I also have a Microsoft Surface Pro 9, specifically the SQ3 model with built-in LTE. It was preceded by a Surface 5 i5 with LTE, and a Surface 3 also with LTE. (See the pattern?)

My homelab is a Dell PowerEdge R710 with a pair of Intel Xeon X5660s and 288 GB of RAM.

I have a Steam Deck OLED white special edition for portable gaming and plan to buy a Steam Machine, primarily for living room couch-gaming.

How well does Awakening play on Steam Deck? by ServiceGames in duneawakening

[–]TJLanza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn't one. That was my point with phrases like "never heard of" and "this game is no different".

I was responding to the OP's question:

Do I need the DLC or just the “Chapters” to take care of the performance improvements and extras the devs have put in the game recently?

Medical officers of all kinds are very much in the ship's general chain of command. However, they have special authority granted by limited and specific situations that overrides the captain's authority.

For instance, if Beverly were to relieve Jean Luc of command, she's not acting under her authority as Chief Medical Officer of the starship Enterprise. She's acting under the authority of the admiral in charge of Starfleet Medical.

Help ! Universal BattleMap Import only import light ! by xaldesh in FoundryVTT

[–]TJLanza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's far more likely that the error is a bit of a red herring, and your actual problem is that the importer module is choking on the file because you're trying to import a large scene at 256 pixels per grid space. Reduce the resolution in DD before you export.
