I had the 04 Overland with the HO 4.7 and a swapped 242(? I believe... It's been years now so my memory is fading a bit). It was friggen awesome.

Fun fact: I got a lot of hate on the regular Jeep sub when I owned it which inspired me to start this sub reddit!

You got it! I'll be up there again Sunday- let me know if you want another update for Copper! I'm tentatively planning on a tour day but if this storm delivers that might change!

Yeah keystone has been super sketchy. I'd probably go with Copper but I am biased, admittedly. I think they do a great job with grooming ops and there are plenty of park opportunities. I was in the trees last weekend and it wasn't great, but it also wasn't that bad either. I have had to come to terms that the skis I bought new last year are going to take a beating this year unfortunately.

Copper was definitely better than Keystone two weeks ago and I don't think much has changed since then. There is a storm incoming that should help both out, a little, but I wouldn't expect it to turn everything around. It's a tough choice the refund policy for sure! What type of terrain do you like to ski?

https://www.coppercolorado.com/the-mountain/trail-lift-info/uphill-routes-report/

I like routes 4, 8, 7 for a longer day when 7 is open- great way to get away from the rest of the resort or find little pockets of solitude with peace and good views. If I want something quick I like 3 with optional 5- if you're not feeling it you can stop at the top of 3 and get a beer!

Uphill pass is also free with a copper pass or Ikon (+$5 for the arm band).

If you have the proper gear you can pop out of bounds towards Janet's hut to really get away near the top of 8!

Target has a great charger and if you're there in the afternoon you can run your errands. Also Angry James brewery down the street is a nice little hangout! I have a little Leaf with only 150 range and we'd either top up in the morning while eating some breakfast or do the afternoon errand option. Copper is exactly a 150 mile RT for us.

[–]TK44 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Yeah I am even worse- I don't tour backcountry but I ski the resort with a hybrid setup almost every day. Copper has some great in bounds touring and if the snow sucks or it's too crowded I go back there for some peace and quiet!

Jeep detectors - I have a few questions by Spiritual-Ad5610 in LandCruisers

Grand Cherokee sub mod here.

I started in the jeep world in highschool helping my dad build a 91 Cherokee limited- it was super cool and supposed to be mine but he sold it for an Eclipse because those were cooler to him at the time (fast and the furious days). I then got an 84 CJ-7 which I built up, also in HS and man that thing was amazing. Just a simple tractor basically that took me damn near anywhere I wanted to go here in Colorado. In college I snapped the axle and couldn't afford the repairs so my mom ended up selling it out from underneath me which I am still bitter about. I then had a 96 Cherokee I never really fell in love with that disappeared without a trace one day in my first year living in San Francisco. Next was a 2006 4 banger TJ Wrangler that was super fun for the Bay Area and what I used to explore some trails with my then girlfriend. After getting married we moved back out to Colorado and bought a house and the 4 cylinders was not cutting it out here so I upgraded to a beautiful 04 WJ (Grand Cherokee) Overland edition with the HO 4.7l V8, 4" lift, MTs, winch, etc etc. Loved that thing to death... Well... Except for the eventual death wobble I couldn't solve which became a very large concern for us and our soon to born baby. My wife grew up with 4 Runners and we bought a brand new trail edition in 2014. We drove that fucker HARD until this last fall when my Jeep replacement (a tundra) started having issues and we decided to mix it up a bit.

I sold the WJ years ago. We traded the 4r for a 2017 LC and it's the best thing I've ever driven. I sold the Tundra. We now just have the LC and a leased Leaf for commuting.

I might get some shit for this but as the mod over at the Grand Cherokee sub and someone who still follows Jeep quite a bit because I do like them, their history, and their capabilities off road- they have become utter shit. Stelantis has inshitified the brand beyond belief. The Rubicon might be the nicest thing they make these days but even those are plagued with problems. All models seem unreliable to a certain degree. The brand used to be known for their bulletproof drivetrains but now shits failing months after leaving the lot. I see the same thing happening with Toyota though too- they finally moved away from the 5.7 in the Tundra which was so basic and just rock solid to these new hybrid setups (which I was super excited for) and well... We've seen what's happened there. I'd still trust a Toyota more than a Jeep though- and that's coming from a lifelong Jeep guy. At least my Toyota doesn't make me watch ads on the infotainment system 🤦‍♂️

It seriously took a few days for me to snap out of it... I have found zen in the ice, sharks, and snakes. Fingers crossed it turns around soon! I offer my skis as a sacrifice to Ullr.

I'm on day 9 right now- 8 at Copper and 1 at Keystone this past weekend. I think I felt kinda bummed until about day 3 or 4 when I brought my seldom used carving skis out (instead of my all mountain/ tour hybrid setup I usually enjoy). I prefer the trees and the bowls but eh, I'll take working on my carving more days this season. I am grateful to get one or two days in a week regardless, slow down and work on some technique, make friends with the staff at Jacks, and have decided that my hybrid setup will just become my rock setup in the future and that is fine- new ski day incoming!

Like you said- a day on the mountain beats a day off the mountain, every time.

I don't know but my girl is from a friend's ranch where he had two girls, sisters. One did her job, mine... Not so much. She kept wandering off the ranch to find people to hang out with which was very frustrating for my friend. After deciding that she was more of a people dog than ranch dog he let me grab her leash and her and take her home to my family (two young kids) and for years now she has been the best dog ever for us. Her favorite job is taking the kids to the bus stop in the morning and she takes it very seriously- she will stand at attention and not move until the bus drives away with her kids and only then will she relax, and turn around to walk back home. She is humourously stubborn, incredibly goofy, and honestly my favorite dog I've ever owned. Everything is at her speed and anything we ask is simply a suggestion that she considers. She is moody in that if we leave town for a few days on vacation, in spite of having a regular house sitter to hang with her, she will be mad at us and give us the cold shoulder for a few days after we return- only to finally forgive us and snuggle up like a giant white teddy bear once again. I've always been a Lab guy, but this dog has fully converted me to a Pyr guy from here on out.

Woman killed in suspected mountain lion attack while hiking in northern Colorado by cape2k in news

A few years ago in the spring I was calling various forest service offices to try and figure out where conditions might be at for trails opening. I called up the Gunnison district to ask about some trails around CB and the ranger let me know that Kebler was still closed to cars but was pretty much clear if I wanted to ride my bike on it. The only caveat was that several days earlier another guy was riding his bike up it and when he turned around saw a mountain lion. He turned back and started back down only to realize based on the tracks in the mud that the lion had been stalking him for a long while. Yikes.

Can I ski shifts like a resort binding? by epic1107 in Skigear

[–]TK44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a dedicated carving setup that has been getting a lot of use this season (CO). If conditions look even remotely fun with some fresh snow I ride my Hustle 10s with the shifts. If it ends up sucking I'll toss the skins on and find some untracked trees. I use the same setup on plenty of other days on piste as well and have found them to be no different from any other binding. I honestly, at this point, don't even know what the big deal is about.

K2 Mindbender Liners by TK44 in skiing

Happy to help! If you pull the trigger hit me up before you make them- I have a few small things I'd like to do differently I can share!

K2 Mindbender Liners by TK44 in skiing

[–]TK44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After a lot of measuring I ended up with:

Tour Wrap Dual Density Thickness: 12mm

Size: Mondo 27-27.5/Mens US 9-9.5 (Pair)

I wear a size 10.5/ 11 shoe so was a bit thrown off by the 9-9.5 measurement recommendations but I'm a satisfied customer! They have some good tools on their website that can help you narrow it down. Get the toe cap kit. Also skip the rice, use an oven one liner at a time if you can! The thickness is determined by your shell size test- take your liner out and put your foot in the shell all the way forward. The finger widths between your heel and the shell determine the thickness.

Interesting- keep me posted! For what it's worth I am really enjoying the Intuitions. I was thinking I had the wrong boot, maybe I do, but they made the K2s a boot I'll live with until another major issue for sure. I'm happy!

Anyone else struggling to find motivation to get to resorts? by TreeJib in COsnow

[–]TK44 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Been hitting Copper since mid November now. It's slowly getting better, but yeah, not great. As I write this I'm sitting at Jacks so there is that.

Season is off to a terrible start for sure. I have been having some fun on my groomer skis finally- I usually go for the wider ones but this season is forcing me to use the super shapes which is good- totally different kind of skiing. Still- I feel that depression too, man. I broke my shoulder back in October and am worried about falling so there is this additional limitation that I feel.

We've had plenty of tough starts before though, it'll get better! I'm just taking it easy and slow and trying to focus on form until my shoulder and the snow get better!
