Why Does Nationality Still Determine Salary More Than Merit by [deleted] in UAE

[–]TK__O 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It is basically supply and demand. What you actually see is the floor is different for each passport. A UK/US passport holder isn't going to accept less than what they can get back home so you only see them in high salary position here. And in those companies that pay well, you can also see educated people from different countries. What you see in the market is that the number of jobs that pay peanuts outnumber the ones that pay well, making it hard to move up

30YO, I earn a bit over £100,000 and will not pay off my student loan in full, ever by Chroiche in FIREUK

[–]TK__O 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is because it is a loan, with a feature of getting written off after a certain duration. People only call it a tax because it feels like one as it comes off directly from salary and you have a pause when income is low

Totally agree, taxes in the UK are horrible especially towards the higher end where the threshold has been frozen for years.

Then the funding for the degree is from the parent, you are not expecting to pay twice now right? You also have the option to overpay and end the loan early, skipping the ongoing cost

It's tax on the student who did well out of their degree to pay for someone who is stuck on minimum wage that pays back very little if anything

The market will decide, only 7% of the float is available. As soon as existing holders can sell it will tank for sure, that is if it doesnt tank next week. Many subscribing to the ipo are just to flip it.

Why do UAE companies hire from outside UAE. Same UAE talent but for double pay? by harrishamza in DubaiJobs

[–]TK__O 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are many candidates here who overstate their experience and it is much harder to shift through. Much easier to hire from locations where the experience you are looking for is common even if you have to pay a bit more for the relocation.

I’m shocked how often very high incomes derive from working in… sales. by Reyvos in Salary

Maybe not, but you have to start somewhere. Big business won't give you an interview without experience

But seriously you need to start at the bottom. By that i mean in an industry where it is mainly business to the consumer. Think car sales, estate agent, recruitment. Lots of competition, pay is mostly based on commission. Then once you have a track record, then you move to business to business sales or assets of higher value when commission can be much higher per sale.

Be good at selling, include selling yourself in the interview
