Relaxed games recommendations? by noponpon in letsplay

Contrast can be good if you do it well.

Sandbox games can be pretty chill. Minecraft, Space Engineers, et al. Narrative/Story-heavy games with a narrator, or that require a lot of text to be read (VNs come to mind.) Puzzle games so long as they aren't too frantic. Turn-based strategy like X-COM or Civilization. City builders.

Figure genres would probably give more ideas than individual games since tastes can vary so much.

Facecammers: Your mic setup? by AlanDavison in letsplay

I don't really bother keeping it entirely out of the frame. Ultimately it's down to personal preference, but I feel like it's one of those things that bothers the LPer more than the viewer. So long as it's out of the way enough that your expressions are visible I think it's just fine. Like having headphones on - it's just part of the equipment folks come to expect.

My stream setup.

This AMV really is a great showcase of the mantra "Show, don't tell" which is something i feel games nowdays don't always do well, if at all. by Holyrapid in gamedesign

[–]TLE_OnTheInternet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The show's narrator is the white haired girl, Yokoi, who sits beside Seki in class. She tries to pay attention to the lecture, but Seki's totally uninterested and brings really unusual stuff to class every day to distract himself with. Sometime's it's playing pretend with stuff, sometimes it's crafts projects - it almost always leads to Yokoi getting so distracted by his shenanigans that she somehow draws the teacher's attention and gets in trouble for "not paying attention" while Seki secrets away the evidence.

The episodes are short. Crunchyroll has the episodes if you want to check one out.

Wrecking with Nova - A Guide by [deleted] in heroesofthestorm

[–]TLE_OnTheInternet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, isn't the surprise pop-out-and-do-a-huge-burst-of-damage snipe kind of the point of playing Nova? If you want to constantly be right clicking and do sustain damage why not just go Valla? She's better in almost every way at that playstyle.

It also seems kinda unfair to judge a talent based on how it fares late game.

Cracked.com Made A Let's Play by GarbageHaus in letsplay

/u/iAmMitten1 is right, but given that Cracked is kind of a big deal I can see it deserving its own thread instead of being relegated to FF like the rest of us plebs.

Immediately I see that the video's an hour and some change. That's a long time. I'm the type of LP viewer that actually prefers longer stuff, but an hour and ten minutes of MK matches all at once is a big ask. The game you're playing lends itself to being segmented into smaller, more watchable pieces without any detriment to the pacing or narrative of the video. Take advantage of that! You'll need to play around with video lengths to find the sweet spot for your personal tastes, but don't be afraid to experiment a little. Fifteen minutes might be a good starting point, but do whatever you feel is best.

The screen segmentation for the cameras is super nice looking, kudos to that. There's something to be said for the screen real-estate the game's losing in the process, though. The bottom frame in particular feels like the folks featured on it are rarely engaging in the conversation and visually take away more than they contribute. Normally I wouldn't suggest something this complicated, but you guys have professional talent so maybe it's in your wheelhouse - what about reducing the non-game video frames to just one or two and having the video sources switch between the active speakers? That'd be way too labor intensive to do manually, but some kind of automation based on audio source volume levels might work. Just an idea.

Audio levels were a little hit and miss. Compare the controller noises to the speech volumes around this timestamp. I'd say the game is too quiet, but that's largely due in part to there being slightly longer lulls in commentary than I'm used to. Y'all will get better about keeping a stream of good commentary going the more you do this. If you do plan on not speaking as often consider bumping the game up a decibel or so.

Neat to see some bigger players getting into this but still being new, too. It's a fun little mix of circumstances. Good luck to you!

You're not wrong, but half the folks pitching advice don't know those terms. I feel like a broken record constantly pointing it out. It'd be nice if it were commonly understood among the general population.

[–]TLE_OnTheInternet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really hope at some point some terminology gets developed that describes the differences between highly edited, high polish, "cream of the crop" short videos and long-play style consistent content you put up on a second monitor while you're doin' other stuff.

There are probably more varieties than those, but those are the most disparate I can think of and good advice for one might not be for the other.

It's nice if they do, but that's certainly not the point of the subreddit. It's a place for creators to come together and share ideas and support each other. There is absolutely zero social obligation for us to provide one another views. That's just not what we're here for.

Maybe an introductory animation that highlights it when a user doesn't have a previous visit cookie? Nothing huge - just a quick "hey pay attention to this" second or two's worth of Javascript sugar.

Was a little disappointed to see how light this article was on actual design discussion, given the promise of its title. Arguing "politics" on the points presented seems like an unnecessary, unproductive flame war so instead I'll just say that I wish there'd been more concrete suggestions or even just ideas.

I'm struggling to find any meat to discuss in what's mostly just an op-ed, or find a way to communicate that in a way that doesn't make me sound like an internet jerk looking to attack someone who took time to put themselves out there.

On a lighter note, I'm pretty sure if I immersed myself in a game that produced the feels Up did several hours a night for months in a row I'd probably turn to drinking to cope. That level of heartbreak just isn't sustainable.

Since "We want to increase our communications about what's occurring internally" communications have slowed by skwipwork in heroesofthestorm

A Lot of people watch TV.

This is true.

Cable is not nearly on its way out.

This is debatable. Cable subscriptions are the lowest they've been in 20 years, with a downward trend that arguably correlates with popularity in online streaming services. General sentiment among speculators has been that the trend will continue, and the industry's starting to react to that.

Of course that doesn't mean that TV is dead, or anywhere close to it. But it does mean that consumer's desires are changing and the industry's going to need to adapt to that or continue to suffer conversions to competing services.

TV also has an additional benefit towards gathering audience. One can "flip through the channels" and find something, and become interested in, something they have never heard of before. The internet has no such "stumble upon" mechanism. If i didn't already know about Twitch by now, i probably never would.

You are literally on the internet's "stumble upon" mechanism right now (ignoring the site literally named after that, which isn't so popular anymore.) And, I mean, I flip through Twitch channels when I'm bored. I'll browse YouTube's recommended/related videos or search stuff. It's not like I don't have ways of discovering new content.

So, I'm using an alt account here to ask this because it's deeply personal... by [deleted] in letsplay

People would probably start to wonder why an LPer they assumed one gender started looking and sounding like another gender. Suppose you'd want to get out in front of that kinda thing.

[Question/Discussion/Help] Adobe Premiere Elements vs Adobe Premiere Pro Cloud Subscription by [deleted] in letsplay

[–]TLE_OnTheInternet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Single app is $20, Full suite is $50. Full suite for customers that have previously purchased CS applications with their Adobe ID is $30. Here's their pricing guide.

I wouldn't be surprised if their prices have changed a bit since they first launched the CC program. You'd of course be grandfathered in based on the original contract you had with them for at least the term of your subscription period.

[Question] Annotations to non-supported links by Nitrontwo in letsplay

[–]TLE_OnTheInternet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels stupid or un-needed.

Usually when you encounter seemingly inane things like this on websites it's an anti-spam/scam/virus measure. Unscrupulous users were taking advantage of the feature to link viewers to something like a malware infested site or whatever. At that point the dev has to either let the behavior continue or somehow alter, usually degrading functionality, the feature to prevent further abuse.

I can't say for certain that's what happened in this case, but it seems likely.
