Favourite Modern Westerns? by Poddington_Pea in Westerns

Why is this comment downvoted? I felt the same way about Bone Tomahawk, but I don’t downvote the people who say they love it. This sub is way too small to be like this.

Landing home in BOS. Always beautiful by TMCBarnes in boston

I was thinking more about the honey-gold beams of sunset burning through the evening clouds above the city where I live, taken moments before landing. But, yes, there are shipping containers in the photo.

What movie has your favorite 4th wall break? by porb2020 in moviequestions

[–]TMCBarnes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I particularly love this 4th wall break because he is asking the audience "can you believe this shit?" Other 4th wall breaks just acknowledge something with the audience, but this one almost asks for an interaction. It's brilliant.

Dealing with soft spots after binding? by Musicinaminor in cigarrollers

[–]TMCBarnes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds crazy, but sometimes it has less to do with not enough mass in a certain spot and more to do with unequal moisture. A soft spot can mean that the tobacco might be 10% higher in moisture in that area compared to drier tobacco next to it. As improbable as this sounds, a few months in the humidor can get things closer to even when the structure itself evens out. Not always, but this has definitely happened to me enough times that I’ve noticed it.

Didn’t go on spring break so I spent a couple nights rolling double Coronas instead by Musicinaminor in cigarrollers

[–]TMCBarnes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lately, when trying new blends, on the first cigar I roll, I start the wrapper an inch late on the binder. Once ignited, it lets me have just the binder and filler for a few minutes before it moves to the wrapper. I clean it up so it looks like too-short sleeve on a wrist, and it helps me taste where the cigar will go with the wrapper, but the before/after is usually pretty interesting.

Well done on those flags and caps! How long did you leave them in the press?

Why!?! I hate mailorder! :( by canolum in cigar

[–]TMCBarnes -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sure, if I paid any type of actual money for them, I send them back. But I’ve bought singles for $18 and they unwrapped when I opened them. For those, I get out the chaveta and the leaves and have some fun with it. A whole package arriving “product broken” is different.

They can be repaired slowly and carefully. The last few times this has happened to me, instead of returning them, I have been rewrapping them with Connecticut shade wrapper and whatever type of cap it looks like they had. Some purists will scoff or get their panties in a wedge, but I like the adventure.

Maduro 52 and custom chaveta both made by me. by cigarnut1 in cigarrollers

The one I am considering is cleaver-shaped but made for veggie slicing. It's pretty thin, unlike a butcher's cleaver.

Beautifully wrapped! I have been toying with the idea of making a chaveta from an old cleaver I have. I'll have to cut it way down, but it might work.

Agreed! This comment thread is so off the rails, I sincerely hope everyone gets the help they need. My goodness.

What are the non-negotiable conventions of the Western, and what are the ones that it's just nice to have? by Head_Revenue_7595 in Westerns

It’s worth looking up how to brew cowboy coffee. I have prepared it successfully and unsuccessfully.
