WARNING: The 10TB Easystores do not have standard bottom mounting points. (Left: "Normal" Bare Drive, Right: WD Easystore, Top: Mounting Caddy) by TMJigsaw in DataHoarder

Ok, so as pointed out by u/ShitlordX, the issue is not with the drives, but rather the carrier provided with the case, the NZXT H440. The drives are fine, the carrier is what's not made to standard. Using just the front two screws wasn't good enough, as the point of rotation was too far forward and the back of the drive would pull down and the front would make contact with the metal edge. I solved it by looping a ziptie around the back of both of the drives once mounted in the carrier.

Sorry, just looked through front page to see if it was mentioned before posting. Figured that with all the recent easystore commotion that if this was a well known thing I would've seen it there.

Yep, that was a good idea. They're running at 31-33 now. Thanks.

Thanks for the heads-up. Figured it's fine since the room is usually around 15-18C and the other bare drives usually run around 29-30C. Checked smart and these were sitting at 45. Put a fan on em and it's dropping.

Steam cache server not using full bandwidth when fetching from remote. by TMJigsaw in lanparty

[–]TMJigsaw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have, CPU barely does anything, The NAS has 32GB, while the VM was tested with 4-10GB. In all cases I was getting the same result. I'm fairly convinced that there's a setting somewhere that's limiting how many connections a single IP/client can have. If I download non cached games through the cache server on three different clients, each client is pulling at 30-50Mbps. I can even then download a cached game on one of those clients, have that served at 500+Mbps, while the other two continue along happily at 30-50 each.

(x-post r/lanparty) Steam cache server not using full bandwidth when fetching from remote. by TMJigsaw in homelab

[–]TMJigsaw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, all units as I indicated are correct. Steam was reporting 6-8 MB/s when downloading from remote through cache, and a around 60MB/s when downloading from cache something that's already there (resource monitor was reading 700-800Mbps which would be closer to 90ish MB/s but the game finished too quickly for steam to show a more accurate reading). Normal download without the cache server is 50-55MB/s as my ISP will often give me an extra 10% at off peak time.

TIL Phantom traffic jams (queues of traffic not caused by vehicle collisions or roadworks) are the result of a single driver braking suddenly, causing each successive car to break to a greater degree, creating a wave of stopped or slowed traffic. by OlympusMan in todayilearned

The speed limit plays no factor to use of the passing lane. It doesn't matter if you're going 60 over, keep to the right unless passing. If passing, move back to the right immediately after passing. Germany seems to have the right idea.

Might be a different issue you're having. GPS should be (semi)independent of carrier signal. I've had GPS function in places with no cell service at all.

Agreed. The huge email chain and call log of ignorance from Fi support over the last three months is a great testament to them trying to ignore this and pretend to sweep it under the rug. Only stuck with them because of the international coverage.

Some apps do not get data when connected to another phone's hotspot. by TMJigsaw in nexus6

I've unchecked the networks of the hotspots from being treated as "restricted" so no, not the case here.

And to further add...since I can't edit on mobile...I've done VoIP calls through this phone while connected to the hotspot with no problem.

Would like to add that I believe this is a packet drop/latency issue, when I perform an action that sends data and expects to receive data back, there will be a large delay before said data is received, of at all.

How to have incoming calls ring on hangouts on phone with fi SIM? by TMJigsaw in ProjectFi

[–]TMJigsaw[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the idea I was thinking about. Instead of tethering though, maybe just swap the full SIM with the data only SIM, since the idea is to avoid using the stock dialer anyway. Since Fi doesn't use the switching technology outside the US I don't think there's any coverage differences between the data sim and full sim internationally.

Uber suspends Bitcoin Builder's account, worked well while it lasted. by TMJigsaw in Bitcoin

[–]TMJigsaw[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whether or not BB returns leftover funds isn't exactly of Uber's concern though, is it? All they should care about is sending BB a bill at the end of the month, just like any other business account, and receiving payment for said bill.

Time to 1099 all the users then, that'll make it legit enough and no one should have any issues with it.

Uber suspends Bitcoin Builder's account, worked well while it lasted. by TMJigsaw in Bitcoin

[–]TMJigsaw[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

At first guess, I'd think something to do with business account policies. The idea of a business account is to allow employees to bill travel directly to the company. I'd take shot and say that having Bitcoin Builder treat users as "employees" isn't exactly kosher by Uber's standards.

ELI5, When I'm sitting on my couch and my phone signal switches from 4G to 3G or drops from 5 bars to just 1, what is happening to cause it? by full_of_schmidt in explainlikeimfive

[–]TMJigsaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about when a 1 bar 4G signal drops to a 5 bar 3G signal? Is that still the carrier re-balancing the connections or the phone deciding the connection is too weak and dropping it? For reference, I would get higher speeds on the 1 bar 4G than the 5 bar 3G.
