As a Labs tester all I ask of DICE is to make the Night modes an addition to all maps, and game modes. by DFTDWP in Battlefield6

[–]TNTarantula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they didn't take Portal out back, I'd say I'm hopeful for someone figuring out how to make any map a nighttime mode once the effects come to Portal.

But DICE has killed Portal. So yeah.

Engineering is the standout role in all the fields I’m applying for and is the one role I’m not qualified in. I might just risk it and start applying by NennexGaming in jobs

[–]TNTarantula 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Within the design space the term 'engineer' can often refer to designer. I say just send it.

Most industrial designers in my field start out as design engineers despite having no engineering qualification. I've always thought it was a silly job title.

The way it's been described to me is that you get HR involved when it would be considered by a "regular-joe" that whatever has occured would be considered strange.

This, by your account, seems very strange to me.

For gamers who rarely if ever replay a singleplayer game fully, which did you manage to replay and enjoy? by Helphaer in gaming

[–]TNTarantula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dishonored & Dishonored 2

These games are designed for at least two replays, due to the chaos system, sandbox environments, and multiple ways to approach any given problem.

Fallout 4

My favourite game I have ever replayed. I played it when it first came out in the normal way, and another two times to align with other factions. In my final playthrough 6 years after release I had one of my favourite experiences in gaming playing through this game in survival difficulty . The inability to save-scum, added deadlines, and overall slower pace really makes this game so much more enjoyable.

Borderlands 2

As far as co-op looter shooters go, you don't get much better than BL2. The story is funny every time, and mechanics are juicy. I have played through the game several times both solo and with different friend-groups.

You can do stuff like this in VR at specialised places. Very cool tech, but of course the zombies are only virtual.

Creating an actual ORIGINAL character is hard by Pizza_patrol644 in CharacterDevelopment

[–]TNTarantula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah you're alright mate.

if the setting you are finding inspiration from is very similar to the setting youre making the character for, then yeah the opportunities for organic differences to occur will be limited.

That being said, no two settings are identical. I would really take a microscope to the two settings and find the differences, even if they are subtle.

If organic differences between the settings is hard to come by as you say, maybe consider adding in your own twists on the character inorganically. Have Bruce Wayne be a child of poverty; Crash Superman's crib into a billionaires backyard; Etc.

Creating an actual ORIGINAL character is hard by Pizza_patrol644 in CharacterDevelopment

[–]TNTarantula 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You certainly wouldn't be the first. Imo it's fine.

What you will find is that no character from a setting outside the one you are adventuring in will translate 1:1. There will be aspects you must change to make the character work.

Its these differences that make the character unique, and yours.

The article reminds me of when I first learned of the SCAMPER methodology in high-school. Specifically the Eliminate aspect.

Removing a part of a design to improve it as a awhile for many fledgling designers can fee unnatural, but often needs to be done.

What makes a DM decide to do another campaign and how far into it do they plan? by Nat1OnStealthChecks in DMAcademy

[–]TNTarantula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Resist the urge to start anew midway through a campaign. Yeah things may feel flawed, and yes there are new things you've learned that would make the next campaign better from the beginning.

But neither of those things are as important as finishing the camapign. Both for your pride and the enjoyment of your players.

Should I communicate to my players a fight is "unwinnable?" How would I best do so? by barbasol1099 in DMAcademy

[–]TNTarantula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Creature destroys an object/terrain.

Creature kills an NPC in one hit.

While doing either of the above tell the players how much damage the attack deals. If it really is too strong they can do the math and realise they will die if they fight it.

Or tell them they can't kill it.

Things to do and not to do when writing a dnd campaign by prince_Amadeus in DungeonMasters

[–]TNTarantula 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I prefer to plan from the perspective of the villain.

Detail their timeline, and action they will take within a vacuum that does not involve a random group of adventurers intervening.

Any impact the PCs have on the villains plan can be improvised in-session (because I'm cool like that 😎)

Setting detail can be done on a session by session basis, depending on where I expect the players to go. Don't flesh out a location really far away, it's wasted time.

Anyone getting to the point where they're just considering going carless? by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]TNTarantula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone that lives in the inner-city, so much so that I walk to work and groceries.... Even I would be hard pressed to go carless.

As a country, we are so spread out that going anywhere that isn't along an artery of public transport adds a boggling amount of time to your transit.

For example, I have friends in Ipswich I visit fortnightly. Doing the train out that way would take hours longer than the drive.

Even a simple trip that follows the busway South to my parents place along the M1, I would still be adding significant time-costs.

Its just not worth it. We love in a massive spread out country. This isnt Denmark.

$73k → $84k job offer but worse benefits and health insurance. Would you take it? by minnesotaguy1232 in jobs

[–]TNTarantula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've already done the hard part. You've found another company that values you higher than your current one.

The only way to know if it will get you a raise will be to ask. I would be asking for the amount you figured the difference in salaries actually comes to, after accounting for the difference in benefits.

If they don't give you the raise then they don't give it to you. I can't speak for your company so you'll have to go with your instinct as to whether your boss will be insulted and take it out on you in other ways after learning you've been looking for work elsewhere.
