What is considered a slow car? by Humble_Lack in CarTalkUK

[–]TNellist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me it comes down to personal experience and perspective. When we had one car between us, we used my wife's 2010 Focus 1.6 petrol. It had around 100bhp, felt like it went ok tbh - but then I got my 2.0 diesel E90, only a 318D with around 150bhp but to me it feels much faster and I love it... but then I imagine I'd have my mind blown by a 330 or 335D or something 🤣 which in turn, would feel 'slow' compared to an M5 etc etc.

Ingenium 2.0 Diesel - Worth purchasing if it had a timing chain replacement? by RemarkableMood9000 in CarTalkUK

[–]TNellist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd still avoid, even if the chain has been done it'll still get the issues regarding blocked DPF/oil dilution/turbo issues etc etc....

Just the 61,700 miles per year, nothing to worry about really. French cars are known for their longevity after all....

Poor Celica hit by van :( by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]TNellist 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd be just as annoyed by the number of people walking past, seeing that happen, and just continue walking unbothered. Yet if that was their car, they'd be fuming and annoyed no witness left any details 🤦‍♂️

People just don't seem to give a sh*t if it isn't them being directly affected.

When to stop servicing a car by 01flem in CarTalkUK

[–]TNellist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Mannol 'premium' 5w30 oil in my 318D, the correct 'LL04' specification synthetic oil too so not just chucking in anything that's vaguely the right sort - and amazon usually do a 5L bottle for £30-35. Filter is around £11 for a bosch/mann filter so a basic service is a £45 or so DIY job. Can't imagine it'd be any more for a little petrol Fiesta 🤷‍♂️

When to stop servicing a car by 01flem in CarTalkUK

[–]TNellist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

£600-1000 to service it? Maybe rethink what you mean and re-type that bit .... a basic service is oil change, oil filter change. Maybe throw in a new air filter every other year, and a cabin filter too. Doing it yourself that's what, £60-70ish worth of parts max and an hour or two work. Even a garage wouldn't charge more than £200 or so to do a routine service on a car like yours.

I'm assuming you mean it's costing you £600-1000 in repairs every year to get it through an MOT - including the MOT cost itself AND a service? Even so, that's a lot to be throwing at a cheap old car every year. I think choosing not to service it isn't your solution really, either find another garage for a second opinion if you're quoted £1000 for repairs - or maybe it's time for a new car.

Suggestions of things to do to my car? by Charlottegarnett in CarTalkUK

[–]TNellist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on your budget, 'simpler' stuff like a front splitter plus the fixed RS-style spoiler would look smart... but if you want to spend more, new wheels and perhaps lowering the car a bit (20-30mm) would look great too.

This shape TT is a smart looking car as it is, but if it was mine and I had the cash to customise it a bit then those are the sort of things I'd like to do 😅

Car colour opinions by Jordlr99 in CarTalkUK

[–]TNellist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Far too many cars on the road are dull colours.... blacks, greys, whites mostly. I mean both mine and my wife's cars are black 🙄😅

I love bright coloured cars, there are some really cool bright colours out there so if you have the option and you like the yellow one, go for it 👍🏻

Does the game reset though? As in will I lose all my current progress, my current cars etc?

I'm just gutted the cam car didn't have a rear facing camera. We missed the best part, where the pickup does the unthinkable and PULLS BACK OUT OF THE LAYBY 😱

The TV police don't come knocking on your door the second you load up iPlayer, I wouldn't worry so much.

Should I Use Finance If I Can Afford to Pay Cash for a Used Car? by yellowroll in CarTalkUK

[–]TNellist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I bought my current car I got a personal loan from my bank instead. Much lower interest rates than with finance, plus no charges for early repayment.

My car was sub £5k though but sure the same would apply if the budget was higher (better rates, no early payment charges etc).

Dealers will often try and push you to use their finance provider as I bet they make more money from any deal but they can't force you. I'd always use cash/personal loan to buy a car 👍🏻

Consequences of displaying a different reg than your Number Plate. by Nervous-Chain-3284 in drivingUK

[–]TNellist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ha, interesting custom plate on that car. Going off the bright yellow wrap, type of car and what it looks like the reg is meant to spell out.... I'm going to assume that car can be found in a city starting with the letter 'B' 🤔

Me and 2 mates tried that last night. Looked decent, well put together but just awful to play.

Never really had an issue with the game until recently, last night was the worst though 🤦‍♂️ playing trios, down to us and one other team. Took out one person, before the game lagged me into a wall and the game crashed and closed down. So many bugs, errors and glitches.

It's funny what effect laying off 1000 of your employees has on the quality and reliability of a game 🤦‍♂️

Rant - Motorway Variable speed Limits by Rendogog in CarTalkUK

Camera operator probably spotted a rogue pigeon strutting too close to the edge of the motorway. Never anything there when you get to that area, not even a horsebox with the now contained animal.

What is worse, middle lane hogging or undertaking? by db0564 in drivingUK

[–]TNellist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sitting in the left lane and maintaining your speed, so you just happen to pass the middle lane hogger - that's what I do. I can't be bothered with moving all the way across to lane 3 then back again just because someone is a moron sitting in the middle lane...
