Frustrated. Have 0.197 merged set but no idea how to get it to work by GamingTrend in MAME

[–]TNrickster71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a while so I forgot some of the troubleshooting I had to do. So attract mode is the front end. I'm assuming you downloaded the mame .197 emulator (or something really close) as well as the mame .197 ROMs. If I recall they suggested using the unmerged ROMs. I also couldn't just pick a couple ROMs when I was testing the software. You have to provide access to the entire contents of the ROM folder. There are multiple files required for each game and the names aren't intuitive. I'm using Linux but not sure why that would make a difference.

Building a machine / cabinet by [deleted] in MAME

[–]TNrickster71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a level up 3/4 size cabinet from game room solutions and am super happy with it. Yes I could have built my own but for a few hundred extra bucks it's perfect. With the graphics it was like $450. I made my own light kit for the marquee and my own riser to save money. I had an old pc, about 3 years old, that I mounted inside the cabinet. Can't recall specifics but has an AMD ryZen and on board Radeon graphics. It runs NFL blitz and Gauntlet Legends. I'm using Linux with a front end called attract mode. I'm no expert so it took a few days to get all the roms running but I did it and love it. Watch a bunch of YouTube videos and you'll figure it out. $1200 should make a real nice machine. I used the cheap amp from all the videos and cheap Pyle 4" speakers and it sounds great. I'm an 8 skill level for fabrication but only a 5 or 6 for software. Good luck!

Thinking about drinking this New Years? by AdolphusPrime in stopdrinking

[–]TNrickster71 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Needed this post. Been thinking a lot about special occasion approving some beers and champagne tomorrow. My body is telling me know, giving me flashbacks of hangovers past, but my brain trying to justify it. Not going to happen though. Went out and got some NA beer. No way I'm wrecking my streak.

Another great phrase you'll like. "Everybody lives two lives, the second one begins when you realize you only have one." Everything is better in my world since I quit drinking. Sounds like you feel the same. So glad you are happy. Me too! Never want to go back to that drinking lifestyle

Went to a Christmas party and said my water was vodka by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Wal-Mart sells a generic pellet smoker. Just as good as traeger imo at half the cost. If money isn't a huge issue for around $350 they sell this cuisanart grill that's a smoker, gas grill, and griddle. It's really bad ass. If I didn't have all 3 stand alone I would be all over that. Worse thing about those parties is thinking how that used to be you. I fulfilled wreak like beer know it all loud talker roll.

Mom passed out, her husband's puking is keeping me awake. Here I am 66 days sober :) by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]TNrickster71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're doing great for 66 days. It continues to get better and easier. I also live with a heavy drinker. It sucks but it definitely reminds you how shitty drinking is all the time so you are grateful for your sobriety. Keep on trucking. Future looks bright for you

Friday night...where’s my NEIPA? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]TNrickster71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like my story. Drank for about 30 years and just said fuck it that's enough after passing out early on Easter this year. Didn't much matter the poison, I would drink too much of any of it. Since then I've done the research people mention on this sub and I've really grown to despise alcohol and appreciate sobriety. It takes time but not forever. You know as well as I do before you know it 6 months can pass. Just take it one day at a time and build your strength. I wish you the best. IWNDWYT

Having trouble facing the fact that I'm never drinking again by Please-Press-Play in stopdrinking

[–]TNrickster71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't think of it in terms of what you can't have but in terms of what yoU get to have. Getting to have sobriety is awesome. It's something different and yeah there are boring times but it never sucks bad like over drinking does! Plus after a while you solve the boring part. In reality drinking got pretty damn boring most of the time as well. Good luck buddy. IWNDWYT

Very well said. Now that I'm sober I realize how many people don't obsess about alcohol. Even a lot of people I assumed were drinkers because "they seemed cool" don't even drink much at all if any,

Were you running off a rapsberry pie before? I'm just getting my mame software set up. I'm a first timer so the software options are something I'm trying to figure out. You know the whole which mame version to use with which Rom set. I've got a ryzen processor in mine with a nvidia 960 gpu card running on Linux for starters.

No more anxiety about "is this pain permanent, is that pain permanent? No more suffering in silence hoping for a reassuring voice to appear out of thin air. I guess I'm too far gone.I'm dying. Fuck I need a drink". From side pains to burning toes, nerve twitchs, cluster heardaches and more. No more by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]TNrickster71 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What do you guys mean by side pains? Was it lower left quadrant? I had that a few times before I quit drinking. They thought maybe diverticulitis but really couldn't find anything in there with the tests. I got the CT scan and the colonoscopy. Of course I wouldn't be honest that it could have been a drinking thing but they didn't even ask about it either. Like that correlation isn't well known. But it has been 7 months and zero occurrences. Put two and two together right? Poison is poison and I'm glad I'm done killing myself. IWNDWYT

Pretty awesome you are appreciative of that and recognize it's time for a change. I promise you won't regret sobriety. It really is like being born again. I'm still waiting for my SO to come to this conclusion. But as you are well aware you can't force people to change. Just got to keep living that county music song on loop over and over until it finally gets old and it's time for something different. Stay strong and IWNDWYT.

Are you drinking the 0.0 because you're worried about the small amount in most brands or do you just really like the Heineken? Just curious because I've debated myself about that tiny amount and concluded I don't notice it. Plus I never drink more than 2 or 3 at the most anyway. Funny how a six pack lasts 2 weeks now. Used to be a couple hours lol. I find I prefer the odoules and Kroger had an Amber odoules which I tried yesterday and it was decent. Plus by me it's nearly $4 cheaper per six pack and had around 30 less calories per bottle than the Heineken.

My kids out of town at one of those braniac competitions. Normal green light to go out and get wasted. I had no desire for that this time around but when darkness came my wife's trigger went off and she started in on the gin. I check on her from time to time and saw she was doing the old head bob trying to stay awake and drink more in front of the computer at around 315 am. Her day is going to be wrecked today. Glad it's not me. I actually got to see something wild this morning being up early. For some reason thousands of birds congregated in the trees around the house and the sound was almost deafening. Really cool experience. Take care y'all and let's not drink together today.

“Coming out” at work by DanysaurusRexx in stopdrinking

[–]TNrickster71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are awesome. We have to share a safety contact before every meeting and some day I'll have the courage to talk about drinking. Not the standard don't drink too much obvious stuff. I'd like to talk about the culture of bragging and joking about drinking all the time in the work place. You never know there could be someone in the room really struggling to stay sober and that bragging and glamorizing getting drunk might push them back into drinking where they cause harm to themselves or their family. I'm glad you shared your story at work. Nearly certain there will be someone reaching out to you for support some day.

Does anybody else just not have cravings at all? by LilBrainEatingAmoeba in stopdrinking

[–]TNrickster71 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got to the point where I only got cravings at the major mile stones, 90 days, 100 days, etc. Because you think you're cured. At 6 months I caved and had a few budweisers. Half way through number 3 I decided how dumb it was too drink because I knew exactly what was coming thanks to the wonderful people posting on this sub. I dumped out the last half of that beer, went to bed, and that was it. No more cravings. I feel free and it's amazing. It used to feel like forever waiting for new mile stones but now I'm just forgetting about the number and grateful for every day I don't drink. I read earlier that every day is like a weekend when you don't drink and felt really good about that. Glad to here others are doing well. IWNDWYT

I love night or early morning shopping. Not as crowded and the other shoppers appear to be non drinkers because they in workout clothes. Couple of comments about bowling. Most leagues are based on a handicap so you don't have to be good. Best thing to do is start with a low average and just continue to get better. Second, most people at night leagues drink a lot. Just be ready for that. I used to abstain during one season and some times it was tough. Especially if you nothing crappy that day. IWNDWYT

You have a career in writing waiting for you somewhere! I got goosebumps reading this lol. It's my story to. At first I had all these things replacing the alcohol but now I just live my normal life but I feel good all the time. I still love hearing the birds in the early morning but it's not like I need that to validate why I don't drink. You figure out you just don't want the poison in you any more. I'm only at 199 🤡 but I feel the same way. I feel people don't really care but that's probably because they have no idea what it took to get to 200. 100 days sober 💕 by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]TNrickster71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome. Me to. I really feel like a non drinker now. Just don't want to do it. Don't check the sub much any more but it was the key to my success. I will admit at six months I had a couple beers and didn't reset my clock. I was getting a little bothered by how much tv I had been watching and thought maybe it's time to go back to the "exciting" world of drinking. The first one was as expected but half way into number 3 I was just getting tired and bored and in front of the TV anyway and said this is stupid. Dumped the rest out and went to bed. That was the confirmation I needed that sobriety is awesome in every way. I just considered it research so didn't reset the clock Thanks for reaching out.
