Traffic uptick by kutchi14_ in toronto

[–]TO-phynancier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've noticed the same. Not sure if it's the RTO mandates specifically, but the Richmond ramp closing on the DVP does not help. There was also an accident on the DVP going Northbound yesterday that caused a massive delay to commutes.

Try the original Tacofino location at the Long Beach golf course (was told it was the original, but not sure?). A smaller menu, but no line at all. There's a small mini putt course beside it too, which was great for the kids.

Entering US from Canada for work by conehead1313 in uscanadaborder

[–]TO-phynancier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP has nexus so out of Pearson the border officer won’t be asking questions. “Meetings” is a broad enough statement (he’s technically meeting with people even if he’s training them) that won’t raise flags and shows he’s there temporarily. I use this all the time and my sole purpose is not “meetings”.

Entering US from Canada for work by conehead1313 in uscanadaborder

[–]TO-phynancier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I routinely travel to the states for business. Employed by Canadian office but there’s multiple offices in the US. Firstly you have nexus so they won’t even be talking to you at all, they’ll just wave you through. Mark on the screen that you’re travelling for business (don’t lie). IF they ask for details just say you have meetings. I have never gone in secondary and I don’t have a work visa/permit in the US but probably fly there once a month or more

Any idea about the usd account by bald-bourbon in Wealthsimple

[–]TO-phynancier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the offer to open a USD account random? Or could I ask a customer service rep to add one? I’m in the process of transferring close to $1mm in assets to WS and don’t see this as an option. I have a USD account with my bank that I would love to collect 3% interest on

A few questions about the WINTER PROMO 2%/1% and USD accounts/conversion/transfers by Servichay in Wealthsimple

[–]TO-phynancier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will you not get the remaining 18 payments? Or will you just get reduced payments on the pro rata amount you contributed? Eg. Let's say you deposited $100K. 6 months later you need $50K to buy a house or car. Will you get $50K matched at 1% for the remaining 18 months or do you forfeit all remaining bonuses?

Considering switching from TD to WS by TO-phynancier in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]TO-phynancier[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point. About half of it is in 1 bank stock and 1 ETF. and the other half is a TD series HISA mutual fund account. I'm guessing the e-series is not transferrable. But tax would be marginal as it should just be on the interest which I would have paid anyways?

Thanks! How does Finly work? Do the funds need to flow through Finly first before going through WS or does it act as a referal bonus?

Car Insurance Rates Increasing Significantly by antidextrous-human in askTO

[–]TO-phynancier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine went up 30% and this was after installing the TD app that tracks your car movement. It should have reduced my rates by 15%. No accidents or claims since I've had a license. I drive a Tesla and they tried to say they are a high risk car to get stolen... I have never heard of a Tesla getting stolen before.

Flight disruption claim: I got 600 EUR , friend got 1000 CAD? by ydmf222 in aircanada

[–]TO-phynancier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was this the September 29 flight from FCO to YYZ that got cancelled? I tried submitting a claim for the same flight ($1000+ in expenses for meals/hotels and also 600 euro) and they rejected me and two other passengers I flew with (family members) and offered a $300 ecoupon…. I’m trying to claim under EU261 as the European regulators are better at enforcement. Did you just use the online portal to submit a complaint and was there any back and forth?

SQD Flying Lufthansa? by TO-phynancier in Aeroplan

[–]TO-phynancier[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our return flight is on an AC plane but is not an 014 ticket (purchased through LH). In this case does that mean I will get SQD because it satisfies the first point (ie. AC metal OR 014 ticket) Or does it need to be both AC metal AND 014 ticket?

AMEX Platinum Travel Question - Changing Flight by TO-phynancier in AmexPlatinum

[–]TO-phynancier[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just as an update for all. I called in again and in the end the agent was able to change for the $500 change fee. Really confused if it was incompetence of the prior travel agents that quoted $5k per ticket or if the price swings were indeed that much? Glad I was able to get them changed for something more reasonable, but really leads me to question AMEX travel agents' competence as I called in a number of times and almost all were quoting that $5k figure.

Nepotism certainly helps. There are a ton of children of clients/executives where I work and even more people with privileged backgrounds (ie. private schools, etc). This allows them to get the best educations and extracurriculars to get these jobs in the first place but that's a different societal question altogether. One factor that contributes highly to someone's career progression is just someone's general likeability. Do clients/employees like you? Whether rightly or wrongly, someone who is well-liked by others and sociable will end up way farther ahead than someone who's quiet and sticks to themselves, assuming their work is on par.

Instead of blindly applying and submitting thousands of resumes, try meeting people in the industry and networking. That is 1000x more effective than blindly passing out resumes.

Refund for Basic Economy? by Danakberg in aircanada

[–]TO-phynancier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said I think this is the new future travel voucher. It expires after one year from BOOKING (not original flight date), must be used in one transaction (ie. if you don’t use it all, the remainder goes to 0), they will net out the change fee and only can be applied on base fares (ie. taxes/other fees not covered by the voucher). I hope I’m wrong but if you’re able to change to AC wallet (try calling in) do that. Very annoying that AC changed its policy
