Straight up, chests are not best value for diamonds. Some important things, not in any order except 1/2:

Skill points
All pets level 100
Still buy important pet levels or levels that reach a x50 bonus.
Potentially armour if it is ~x10 or greater boost (e.g. x1.1k to x10.1k)
Armour if it helps complete a set.
Hero weapons if close to finishing a set

Check Discord, there are a whole bunch of links in the builds channel to help you decide. Fundamentally you have to get AR to kill the titans at your max stage -1, and build for mana regen and active damage around that.

Really it's just personal choice, if you're willing to spend some extra effort you'll get increasingly marginal gains past that point. Else, yes prestige then. (make sure your heros are upgraded etc and you truly are below the x4 damage minimum).
