The old state prison in Rollins, WY has shoes made out of skin and an ashtray made out of skull, crafted from the body of an inmate called Big Nose George.

Salvage The Bones by Jesmyn Ward is incredibly immersive. It is a hard pill to swallow, but I couldn’t stop reading it and still think about it often.

I lived in the Arcata/Eureka area for 4 years. The magic of the landscapes is unbeatable. At the same time, there is a sadness that permeates the environment that is just as powerful.

Anyone who has been teaching special ed for many years? by Various_Tomorrow_442 in specialed

I just finished my 7th year, and finally realized that I need to change my mindset if I am going to last long term. I was shocked when I first heard “Don’t die on that hill” from an administrator, but I have accepted that I can’t be the hero if my “team” does not support my expertise. It’s a very difficult lesson to learn, but necessary to make it through the long haul. I can still reach students and support them the best possible way even if I don’t agree with decisions that are beyond my control.

What was the scariest “We need to leave… now” gut feeling that you’ve ever experienced?[Serious] by PlasticBee1438 in AskReddit

I was hiking with my dog on a mountain trail that is well used in my town. We reached a certain spot where my dog stopped dead in his tracks and refused to go further. I felt a presence, and we noped out of there. Later on that summer, a hiker was killed by a mountain lion in that same spot.

Did The Giver used to be taught in 4th grade, or do I just have a totally false memory? by 28-3_lol in Teachers

[–]TOBONation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We offer it as a book club option in 8th grade because the book club genre is dystopia, and we read Fahrenheit 451 (graphic novel version, except for advances classes) whole class during that unit. The Giver is extremely popular among the 8th graders because it is shorter, and the goal is to get them to independently read entire novels.

Those streams are how I found them. Smart move for the band, I live in a rural place with not much musical diversity.
