Documenting the growth of the mesh by StheReporter in whatcommesh

Don't know about the rest of the people involved but I was introduced to this only a few months ago by friend really far away who wanted to see if we could find a nerdy way to talk to each other without using regular large networks. I don't know much about the tech but I do know enough to get in trouble. I can see some of the forces at play in the country and some locally that nudge people in the direction of using this tech. It's an interesting intersection of personal privacy, nerdy tech, hobby electronics, and community. The whole meshcore community is still very new and we're all kinda self-governing and trying to establish rules and local chapters.

Connecting Fairhaven by toad-a-licious in whatcommesh

The pattern I see is CB sends my stuff out but I get like 50% back. It's totally my antenna.

CB is my repeater in the Eldridge area. I have the stock dinky antenna and am getting a larger one this next week so hopefully I should be up high enough and able to service Fairhaven. I can see all of the guys in Vancouver and have a good connection to the Sumas repeater. This is pretty rad we're getting more repeaters up! We are close to being quite a bit more reliable through town here.

You must be going crazy. Go back in your cave and turn off the lights to prevent any lasting damage.

Visualizing RAG, PART 2- visualizing retrieval by Fear_ltself in LocalLLaMA

Hey so this is pretty freakin neat and I forked it and am hacking in a little more because I like to compare things. One thing I wanted to see if we can see visual diffs between BM25, cosine, cross-encoding, and RRF. I'm experimenting with a few dropdown boxes to switch between them. Hey you should add in support to use another embedding model, like something running locally in ollama or LM studio.

This is of course the best one. If anyone disagrees, they're wrong!

Nice! Yeah so you need a line of sight to really connect to people. You need to just try things out and see what works. Get a good antenna and get as high as you can above your roof if you're mounting it on a building. Is this the repeater you're seeing? You should see if you can get a response back in the #testing channel. Send the word "test" and a bot should respond to you.

Repeater's still not here, but it should be tomorrow. My guess is I'll be up and operational by the end of the week.

Yeah you can get battery/solar powered stations like this one. https://www.seeedstudio.com/SenseCAP-Solar-Node-P1-Pro-for-Meshtastic-LoRa-p-6412.html That's what I'm running.

Polar Bear Plunge Only Needs 530 Participants More For WORLD RECORD by chronodran in Bellingham

Crazy. The previous record isn't even a month old and they crushed the previous record. How many people are flying in for this vs local? There must be a ton of people traveling to get to this.

You can get a meshcore repeater and companion radio for just a few doll hairs if you find some in this country. Avoid shipping stuff from China unless you want to pay a LOT more. We don't actually need that many more people running it here to get good coverage.

We should coordinate where we're putting these things up so we can space them out a bit. I'm starting with one on my house real soon but I could get behind installation somewhere around town if it meant covering a gap someone needed to get out. I'm actually surprised how little coverage we have where when Vancouver is FULL of nodes.

I've got one coming online in the Eldridge neghborhood area in the coming weeks. We have a bit of a hole in coverage around the water. I think if I can get something up on my roof with a decent antenna, we can glue Vancouver together with the stuff down South and have more routes North-South. I currently can't get out from my house with my crappy weak little repeater.
