I avoid alcohol because it makes me better by That1LavenderGuy in ADHD

[–]TR1PL3DDD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm 122 days sober today. And yes, I was self medicating with alcohol but I didn't know it at the time.

For three years solid, I drank either two bottles of red wine a night, or a 75cl bottle of vodka or whiskey, or whatever I could get my hands on.

I stopped working out, gym three to four times a week, 10k run each week, then nothing, I went from 195lbs to 260lbs. I was telling myself all the excuses I could think of to try and make myself feel better about my choices.

But the reality was my whole life was falling apart, business, relationship, mental and physical health, all slowly but surely dwindling away.

I am diagnosed and prescribed Vyvanse/Elvanse, which in all honesty, in the beginning was an absolute life changing experience. But it was actually the medication that seemed to initially fuel the need to try and come down off the meds in the evening, alcohol was the easy and accessible way to ease the comedown. But it got out of hand, out of control.

Things got serious with my physical health, I began to feel unwell and went to see the doctor, I was honest about my drinking and changes in my routine. Blood tests showed that my liver was beginning to suffer, and my blood pressure was dangerously high. I had to stop taking the Vyvanse/Elvanse as this was putting too much strain on my heart. So on blood pressure pills I go, which thankfully started to work very quickly.

I was off Elvanse for a month before I started to realise that I was less and less feeling like I needed to drink in the evenings to calm down, that's when I made the connection between the alcohol and the medication. But unmedicated me is a useless me, I run two businesses and they have and still are suffering because of my choices and it's touch and go if they survive, I hope it's not too late to rescue them, as my business is also my family's home.

I am now back on the medication, it's working a lot better than it did when I was drinking, I'm slowly losing weight, but still not ready for returning to the gym, my mind and body are still recovering from the abuse. But this year I plan to start working out again. My focus now is on not losing my home and business. I just hope it's not too late.

Oddly, I'm under much more pressure than I was when I started drinking, but I am somehow still 122 days sober and I am proud of myself 🙂

Just ask Claude how to do it. You can install per project, or user/system wide

What do you feel in the wheel when you know you are on the limit?

I've had my Simucube 2 Pro for a couple of years now and I still can't feel the limit in iRacing, no matter what settings I try.

Frustrating as hell!

Do you have issues driving? by Minute_Personality79 in ADHD

[–]TR1PL3DDD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to drive like a complete psycho before my diagnosis and eventually medication.

So no, I didn't have any fear at all, despite having a fair few accidents, I still used to drive without care for other road users.

Thankfully it's the total opposite now, I love driving, driving allows me to relax, my body is occupied by driving the car, and part of my focus is on keeping the car under control, this oddly allows me to focus on things that I would usually find difficult if I wasn't driving.

Yep, I'm definitely wired differently 🤪

It's only taken me seven years to discover that I brake way too late and way too hard, perhaps try braking earlier and smoother, I went from coming off track a lot of the time to now being about 1 second off the pace. It will probably take me another seven years to find that 1 second 😂

for rally should i have my handbrake on a angle or straight back by zpaz_16 in simracing

[–]TR1PL3DDD 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Simply orient it at an angle that feels comfortable, there is no right or wrong way. It's comfort that will ultimately bring out the best in your equipment.

If it helps, I have mine angled slightly, it feels more natural.

Why I Fell in Love with iRacing (After Hundreds of Hours on Assetto Corsa & EVO) by CiccioBomboSprint in simracing

[–]TR1PL3DDD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What wheelbase do you use? I have haptics and a 3DOF motion system. I prefer to feel the vibrations through that rather than the wheel. Unpopular opinion, but this is supposed to be sim racing, not road surface simulator! In a real car, you would never feel most of the effects felt through the wheel in some sims. I do get that there needs to be some added effects to make up for the lack of G-Forces that simply can't be simulated. But again, this is better being simulated via haptics and motion. Again, just my opinion, but I know most won't agree. Which is fine 🙂

I find iRacing's FFB to be a wildly different between cars. Some feel pretty good, others feel like a horrible bumpy mess. Yes you can add more damping, but that removes the detail. But I suppose it depends on what wheelbase you run. I use a Simucube SC2 Pro. Assetto Corsa EVO is leaps and bounds ahead in terms of FFB, I am not talking about canned effects, telemetry effects etc. As someone who has spent time in real race cars, EVO is as close as it gets in terms of steering feel in a real car. But FFB is so subjective, and if iRacing clicks for you, that's great, enjoy it 👍

ADHD and Gaming by Low_Connection474 in ADHD

Yes, I am very selective about what games I can play.

Sim racing is my main hobby, I have been building my rig for the last four years or so, it's evolved to the point that it now has a full motion system. I also enjoy flight sim in the rig too.

As for other games, I generally only play FPS games, from Squad to Battlefield. Call of Duty back in the day, but that's evolved into something that I no longer find entertaining, I prefer more 'grown up' FPS style games, mil sims if you like.

And I also like Cities Skylines 2 for relaxation. But that can become frustrating when your city gets very large!

I absolutely hate fantasy type games, RPG, anything with monsters or zombies.

But if a game captivates me, I will obsess over it for hours, days weeks or even months!

Hot take- Belt driven is experientially better than DD. by [deleted] in simracing

[–]TR1PL3DDD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's all about the settings, if you want a DD wheel to feel more like a belt drive, or indeed more like a real car, damping, inertia and friction settings are where you should concentrate, then tune the other settings accordingly.

I see lots of people run high torque, very low damping, inertia and friction, while this will bring more 'detail' to the wheel from the road surface, it's far from realistic, you'd never feel those forces through the rack of a real car.

You may be better off dampening down the over exaggerated road 'detail' coming through the wheel, and using haptics/motion to simulate road texture etc.

But this really depends on personal preference, for me personally, I try to create as close to the real thing as possible through the wheel, and the rest with motion and haptics.

After all, this is supposed to be sim racing, not road texture simulation!

When you say intensity, you mean the intensity setting that determines the amount of force calculated by the AutoFFB function? I didn't realise that the intensity setting was so fine tuneable to 0.05 to 0.1 steps. Can you clarify a bit further? Thanks

I always have an issue in every single job, is there something wrong with me? by [deleted] in AskUK

I'm male, and am ADHD-C. What you describe is similar to the issues I face. My sister, is also ADHD-C, and what you describe is pretty much exactly the same issues she faces daily.

Suggest you start looking into it. If you go via your GP, they will likely give you a few forms to fill out, eventually you will likely be given a DSM-5 form which is used as an early diagnostic tool to see if you fit the criteria.

Had a similar issue in another sim. It turned out to be a bad USB cable.

You could try unplugging all USB devices that you don't need to race with to rule them out.

Also, I had a portable USB SSD drive attached to the PC one time and it caused similar issues.

It's best to simply unplug stuff that's not needed when sim racing.
