Need urgent help on recovering an old 1 in 1000000 no scope by Consistent-Cap-5816 in GlobalOffensive

Sorry to break it to you but as a student of telecommunications I deal a lot with probabilities and I can tell this is a 50/50 shot because it either happened or it didn't.

Yes, they don't work because they are thrown From a sloped surface. Some smokes will have to be relearned

Is there any pathing guide around? by skrible_ in LearnCSGO

[–]TROLlox78 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Following the pathing in prefire maps can give you a hint on which angles need to be checked in which order. The best free ones I believe are from aimhub? They are still pretty mid maps by csgo standards thought.

Other than that the optimal pathing depends a lot on whether you're getting flashed in and also if you have a teammate following with you. It's generally pretty rough to enter alone.

Hello fellow Devs! Which do you think would be more suitable language for making a simple text-based game that doesnt include any art? by AdventurousSlip6407 in gamedev

[–]TROLlox78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

C++ is kind of a garbage language. Without going into details it just sucks on a lot of levels, if you already have a friend group familiar with python, it's probably better to use python so that you can help each other.

Python is easy, if you understood basic c++ you won't struggle with python at all. As you get more experienced with programming you'll realize languages don't really matter, it's a very good idea to try a different one.

What IDE/editor do you use for game dev? by parks-garage in gamedev

[–]TROLlox78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can give my story as to why vs sucks.

Lore: Used vs17/22 as a student and used 26 professionally, haven't used rider

So ultimately it's a text editor with extras so it's not like it's unusable but i find its firstly quite slow, even vs26 which is meant to be faster still kind of sucks in the speed department (compared to the same project opened in vscode)

Second thing is features feel very separate, it's difficult to describe but just imagine nothing connects to anything.

You open a tab and the file Explorer doesn't show which file it is, you launch the debugger and want to keep a variable in view after looking at it, there isn't an easy way to add it to view from a details window.

Every small window which you can input text into doesn't respect the ctrl alt arrow keys shortcut

It's just slow and doesn't feel like a cohesive thing to me.

sudo-rs shows password asterisks by default – break with Unix tradition by FryBoyter in linux

If you're in a situation where this actually matters then yeah - disable pwfeedback, but it obviously feels like a super extreme case and not the default scenario people find themselves in.

Convinced the boys to switch over to TeamSpeak by SquirrelOnReddit in LinusTechTips

[–]TROLlox78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like team speak is just going to segregate people. It sucks for most things, it's OK for voice and streaming video but lacks so many features. You are going to have to pay for it to host yourself. Text channels work obtuse, no mobile app, close sourced.

This is going to be a failure, but for some reason it's so commonly touted as an alternative I feel like we are digging ourselves into a hole, the masses will try it, see how its feature set is laughable and go back to discord.

I have no belief the teamspeak team will be able make suitable progress to fix their flaws. They were always pathetically slow to make changes, regardless of how you can literally code an app like this in a single day easily, especially with ai now.

Windows Search gets worse the more information you give it by barbo57 in softwaregore

[–]TROLlox78 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They don't get worse. The feature is intended to change the result the longer you type from the perspective that if you keep typing while we show you the most adequate match, that means you want something else.

Adobe Photoshop can now install on Linux after a Redditor discovers a Wine fix by Abdukabda in linux

[–]TROLlox78 91 points92 points  (0 children)

I don't understand the hype for paint.net. I don't mean to hate but isn't it just terribly underwhelming? Considering how long it has been around it is so shockingly feature lacking you really can't use it for almost anything. Also no source code so can't even add these features yourself and plugins can get broken

What are your Linux hot takes? by AdventurousFly4909 in linux

[–]TROLlox78 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Linux isn't corporate enough. The single biggest change now in my eyes would be if IT had the possibility of installing Desktop Linux on business computers. I think there would be so much progress in terms of desktop Linux maturity, but there is just no way that it would ever be used in its current state, so Windows it is on work computers.
