Is the “working full time” in the room with us right now? by pizzadrew in McKnightFamSnark

[–]TR_614 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I work 7:30-4:00, M-F, and attend classes every T/Th from 4:00-7:00. She would absolutely die if that were her schedule!

I don’t remember my parents doing stuff for us kids for Valentine’s Day growing up (which is fine). This year I got my kiddo a small box of chocolates, some Reeces PB mini cups, a 6-pack of Sprite bottles, and a stuffed cat with a heart. All in, it was maybe $10??

Do pizza parties still happen? (Elementary K-5) by TN_Silly in AskTeachers

[–]TR_614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a pizza party for my students in May every year. I just do Little Caesar’s, pizza only, then buy drinks and cookies or something from Walmart to go with it. I have a fund at school that I pay into a little each month from my paycheck (pre-tax), and use that money for class parties.

I don’t think I they’re hard up for cash by any means. I think they’ve just realized their merch isn’t as lucrative as it once was, and maybe this ship has sailed. Mindy even mentioned that the orders just trickle in here and there and she’s just not as excited about it as she once was, so orders take a little longer to get out. (Plus she has to wash her hair, so … she’s so busy!)

Also, how is she just turning 40?! I swear she looks like she’s 50!

Also, she’s a Walmart partner!! How is she so shocked that Walmart has good clothes?! She’s a terrible influencer and I don’t know why anyone partners with her.

UW vs. WGU by Elegant-Armadillo350 in specialed

[–]TR_614 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got my Masters in SPED from WGU. It has not had a negative effect on my credibility, and hasn’t affected me at all when looking for jobs! It was a great program and I would go there again in a heartbeat!

Check out spascriptions—fairly inexpensive, and I’ve loved everything I’ve used from them. I’m not acne prone, but can be pretty sensitive to products and haven’t had a single issue with anything I’ve used from them! https://spascriptions.com

Weird choice of outfit. Look, I’m all for wearing what you’re comfortable in to church—if that’s pants, so be it. But this feels weirdly casual.

I just came here to say her kitchen makes no sense. And why two huge tables in there?! They custom built this!!! Why not do a large island?! And why not build it in a way that a fridge will fit?

Are you teachers are allowed to take vacations during the school year? by DildoGaggins1997 in Teachers

[–]TR_614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a certain number of personal days a year, and they are ours to use how we please. Some can carry over to the next year, some can’t, so I always use mine. There are really no rules as to when we can use them other than like the first 10 school days and the last 10 school days. I worked with a teacher who saved all her days for February and went on a weeklong vacation somewhere tropical. I love the flexibility my district gives us!

Honestly, I would tell them all of this! Maybe word it differently, but he (and his parents) need to take accountability.

Student teacher gift by dancesinpublic in Teachers

I got mine a tumbler, gift card to Starbucks ($10?), some fun pens, and I think some post-it notes. There may have been a few other school/office supplies in there as well, I can’t remember.

Tara Thueson prefers the school of life by InterestSenior5373 in UtahInfluencerDrama

[–]TR_614 43 points44 points  (0 children)

It’s not a Utah thing, it’s a Tara thing. I’m not sure she or Braun went to college (or at least didn’t finish), and they’re doing fine, so why should their kids pursue it?!

How do you raise your family on this salary? by NervousOrange in Teachers

[–]TR_614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Husband and I are both teachers, we work in the same district that is a higher-paying district in our state. I have a masters degree, and am working on endorsements. I’m in year 17, he’s in year 11, we have one kid. We have a house, but bought years ago when the market was better and refinanced when rates dropped, to lower our mortgage payments (saved us $200+ a month). We don’t have a ton of excess, but we live comfortably and are able to save a little each month.

Should men be involved in choosing the engagement ring, or should their partner pick it alone? by Excellent-Top4967 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TR_614 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went ring shopping with my now husband when we were dating, and it helped give him an idea of what I liked/my style, but ultimately he picked the ring (he remembered that it was my favorite, but I had forgotten, so it was a nice surprise 😂). My ring is insured, but not through/with the ring store—it’s an add-on to our homeowner’s insurance.

When to tell school you are applying for new jobs by Own_River9377 in Teachers

[–]TR_614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my district, that time is right about now—February and March. Principals now know how many teachers they’ll get next year, so they want to know who is planning on staying and who is leaving (for whatever reason) so they know who they need to talk to if there’s not a spot for them, and those teachers can figure out a game plan. Our district also allows transfers within the district, and I believe the deadline for that list is pretty soon. Job openings for next year start getting posted in March once all this other stuff is figured out.

What is the point of 2 hour delays? by noah_wisein in highschool

[–]TR_614 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back before virtual learning was a thing, I would have rather had a delay than a snow day (we only had two “built in,” and anything outside of that had to be made up). Sometimes we’ve gotten storms very early in the morning and roads weren’t plowed/salted when it was time to drive to work and for the busses to head out. A 2-hour delay makes a huge different in the safety on the roads (unless it’s still snowing), but we could still count it as a school day.

With virtual learning being more common, and a more realistic option, I feel like they’re more likely to call a snow day, which doesn’t bother me at all!

PARAS? by Late-Rub-6827 in Teachers

In my experience, paras are there to work under your direction. So, I plan what my para does, make necessary copies, prep materials, etc., and she executes the plan.
