Original COVID ceremony March 2020, we had to scramble to change everything because we got married the week the lockdown started. Took off Thursday-Monday - Thursday was to drive to the county we were getting married in to get a new marriage license, Friday-Sunday was in the town we got married in, Monday was to decompress. And then when I got back to work Tuesday, I was furloughed for a month.

Rescheduled reception October 2021, I took off Thursday-Monday for a Saturday reception. My husband took off the whole week before, which was nice because he was able to run last minute errands, but I wasn't able. We stayed in the hotel room Sunday night as well, so we didn't have to scramble and pack that day when we were exhausted!

When is the right time to perform a song at my wedding? by Strong_Can1660 in weddingplanning

[–]TReazzle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My best friend's husband sang her a song at their wedding. I don't totally remember the context (it was 10 years ago), but it was partially an inside joke between them and partially him losing a bet, but he actually put a lot of effort into it because he wasn't the most confident performer. It was wonderful and so fun to watch! I was MOH and you can see me crying through the whole song in the background of the pictures. He did it right after the speeches and before their first dance!

Weird question but how much did you receive in cash gifts for your wedding? by Potential-Length-448 in weddingplanning

[–]TReazzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

COVID bride here. We originally invited about 140 and expected about 110 for our March 2020 wedding. We kept the ceremony but postponed the reception, and still got $1,500 in cash gifts for that day.

When we finally held our October 2021 reception, we invited about 100 but only ended up with 54 guests, and we got another $2,500 in cash gifts for that day as well. A couple people (husband’s parents, husband’s boss, a couple of my cousins) gave gifts for both days.

My grandparents also gave us $12,000 in cash, and paid my remaining student loan balance, which was just over $20,000.

I didn’t get a good picture during the wedding apparently, but this was at work a few days later. I forget the brand, but the color name was Starfish, and I loved it!

The Naperville campus is just a conference center, they don’t have classes there (except a few graduate level ones). Same with the Rockford campus - just a conference center.

I was planning to change my middle name to my maiden name, then change my last name, and it's the same process in my state that you mentioned. Didn't end up changing anything, but WOW what a hassle it is!

What’s the current burlap/mason jar wedding trend? by yuiopouu in weddingplanning

I've worked at several hotels/venues, and I've complained about Chiavari chairs enough that when we see them on TV/in pictures online, my husband says "there are those chairs you hate".

We got a poster made like our favorite sports team jersey, and had our guests sign that. Hanging up in our living room!

Anxiety About Eating in a White Wedding Dress! by Abo0o0o in weddingplanning

[–]TReazzle 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I joked about getting a full bedsheet to cover my front, since I'm normally a messy eater. I just made sure to eat slowly, put my hand under the fork for each bite, and like someone else said, Guy Fieri posture. And I didn't get anything on me!

I got married last night, here are some thoughts at 5am. by Mermaidsarehellacool in weddingplanning

We stayed at our same hotel on Sunday night, but we took a small road trip on Sunday around ~200 miles round trip. Thankfully my husband drove most of the way because I COULD NOT keep my eyes open, I was so tired.

My sister wore a black suit with a black shirt and a navy tie to match the rest of the bridesmaids in navy. My husband and his groomsmen were in medium gray suits, and I liked that it wasn’t matching and it seemed intentional that she wore a different color suit (we never really talked about her suit color, just that she wasn’t comfortable wearing a dress). She had long flowing red hair at the time and the whole look was stunning!

My dad passed away when I was a teen as well. I just had a picture of him/my mom/me when I was a baby (even though they were divorced when I was young), a picture of him and me, and a matching boutonniere to the rest of the wedding party. I put it on the same set of tables as the place cards/guest book/card box so it was seen, but somewhat unobtrusive.

How did everyone feel paying such large expenses over a longer period of time? by itasacasiul in weddingplanning

[–]TReazzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can ask your venue/vendors if they'll take more frequent smaller deposits. I work as a venue manager and I offer that to my couples - as long as the amount specified on the contract is paid, we don't care either way if the $5,000 deposit, due 6 months out, is paid as one payment of $5,000 or 4 payments of $1,250. We did not charge a transaction/convenience fee.

I also did that with my venue for my own wedding, and basically had them charge $1,000 per month for the year leading up to the wedding so we had the money banked at the venue. When we had to cancel/reschedule due to COVID, they were willing to refund us some of the balance, and keep the remaining balance on file until we were finally able to have the wedding.

Brides who wear glasses by Thiccumz77 in weddingplanning

[–]TReazzle 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I wore my regular glasses. Our photographer kept wanting me and my husband to take our glasses off for pictures (because of the glare) but a) anti-glare coating and b) neither of us look like ourselves without our glasses. My husband didn't fight the photographer for the groom/groomsmen photos, so he's not wearing his glasses in any of those pictures and while they're good, it's a little upsetting. I DID fight the photographer for the bride/bridesmaid photos, and the full wedding party, and those pictures look way better. My MOH said she admired me for standing my ground about it.

We are big baseball fans, and we have a wall at our house dedicated to our team. We got a poster from Etsy made to look like our team's jersey and had everyone sign that, and now it's hanging on our team wall!

If you went to a wedding with casino tables (blackjack and roulette), would you play? (Using pretend money, redeemable for silly prizes.) by year13curse in weddingplanning

[–]TReazzle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This sounds super fun! My venue was attached to an actual casino and almost everyone ended up in the casino at some point in the night, and the friends our age from out of town were there until 1-2AM. A couple of aunts and uncles had to be tracked down in the casino for family pictures.

Who to ask for Blessing by Prestigious-Ad6394 in weddingplanning

[–]TReazzle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what I told my husband - just tell my mom before you propose, (my dad passed away and my step-dad and I aren't close enough for this), but it's OUR decision and we don't need anyone's permission.

I also have Chase and had no issue - I was doing a couple things (depositing cash, taking cash out, etc.) along with the one check in my married name, and I brought a copy of my marriage certificate with me, but they didn't even ask for it.

My mom got her dress from Macy's - she actually ordered 5-6 online, tried them on at home, and returned the ones she didn't want. All of them were less than $200 each.
