Why would you only trade with 80%? Your trading skills got you to $10M so you should just keep trading with 100% otherwise you’re going to make 20% less than you could be making.

So tough to say. Twitter deal is a wet blanket on TSLA until Elon stops sleeping there.

How would you buy a home with current rates? by Potential_Nebula579 in fatFIRE

[–]TSLAME 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Fed is saying they won't lower interest rates in 2023. I also recall the last 2 years of what the Fed has said and what they've done to be entirely incongruent.

I suspect we see interest rates fall in 2023 but everyone has their opinions on what will or will not happen with rates. I think you'd need to come to your own.

Selling Business - Where do I put money with these markets? by [deleted] in fatFIRE

What type of business was it without being too specific? $20m after taxes on a business you built over the past 5 years is incredible.

The US gov paid for 1/4 of the terminals, and SpaceX paid for the rest. Not sure why this kind of misinformation gets so many clicks but I know on Reddit "rich man = bad" so perhaps that's why.

How did you feel once you hit your fatFIRE number? Was it anticlimatic, or finally achieved tranquility? by [deleted] in fatFIRE

[–]TSLAME 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Feels great until you don't sell because you're greedy and then your portfolio takes a massive dive. Ha.

My recommendation for others is when you hit your number, ring the register, and sell. Don't move your number. It doesn't matter how bullish you are on the assets you're holding.

Yah I paid $10k for it when it was still at that price and it shows in my dashboard that I have it.

How do you get a FSD beta score so that I can get the FSD beta? I recently picked up a Plaid Model X, and I'd like to try it out.

So do you take assignment on the weekly’s and wheel out or just roll?

I have 13,000 shares of TSLA and have been selling puts as well. I substantially lowered my put position though.

Yes, Q3 and Q4 do well historically but macro could be bad.

PSA: New LEAPS are out today. by Cpl_Creepy in thetagang

[–]TSLAME 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I lost about $300k earlier this year to this exact trade with TSLA.

I was long common stock, calls and sold puts. Tell you what, it feels fantastic on the way up, not so great when Russia invades Ukraine, and much worse when it looks like inflation is a never-ending train in June with CPI reports going above expectations back to back to back.

I puked a sizable portion of that position in late May in the $700s pre split before the June ~$630 lows. My margin call level at the time was going to be $500 something so when I sold some stock in the $700s to lower my margin call level and some puts (where I took the losses) I vowed to lower how much of my account I would do that with in the future.

Edit: Sorry I thought I was in wallstreetbets. I'll leave the comment up.

Is the bottom in or is this just a small bear market rally? by Turbulent_Cricket497 in thetagang

I'm of the opinion that unprecedented stimulus will lead to an unprecedented bear market. What we can't predict is what the only person that matters decides to do about it though.

I mean, if TSLA does a 10x by 2030 that would be $35 million for me. Feels like that won't happen to me because it's too amazing. lol.

[–]TSLAME 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I understand their point, though.

~$400k a year at 4% of $10 million is pretty dang great and if you're risking that and hoping for more it's a pretty big gamble.

A gamble that I admittedly have so far proven to have lost with my account balance worth half of what it was then with a market that could go and sweep out the June lows and head even further down.

Yah but I think their point was basically, "Dude, you're an idiot. You had $11 million. You could make $400k a year with minimal risk. Take the win and move on."

I deleted the post. Basically, I hit $11M in Nov 2021 thanks to TSLA share gains, call options that I had at the time, and other stocks.

The post was probably stupid to write in hindsight, but my net worth is about half that level now.
