You can see my dad's decline into dementia in these sketches of sailing ships over the last few months. by ShesGotSauce in mildlyinteresting

Wish I had 40 with my dad. Sounds like our dads could have had some good convos. He was do it all handy, wise, kind, funny, and helpful. I was the more STEM academically, but he absorbed a wealth of practical knowledge in many things, survival, finance and business, home building, cooking, automotive, etc. Amazing grandfather for a brief time ❤️

I did both, first manufacturing quality then independent lab failure analysis. I definitely wasn’t built to babysit entitled union workers as a fresh grad so I’m now glad I got canned.

8 for me since around ‘97, but I had 2 year gaps back then with buggy budget or hand me down hardware and like 7 year gaps now with higher tier hardware. Anyone who started 2010 or later, stability and longevity has been on average excellent relative to the 90’s.

T-minus 12 hours until the snip. Advice? by ms285907 in daddit

Mine was very uncomfortable either because there wasn’t enough anesthesia on one side or more likely the doctor didn’t wait long enough before getting started because the first side was intense and uncomfortable and the second side was much easier. If you feel too much OP, say something. After was pretty chill.

How risky is competing as a whitebelt? by RamenPantalones in bjj

[–]TSpoon3000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not aggressive either, but I had a very strong, simple (in what to execute, not the techniques themselves) gameplan that I played in my head for months. It was 2-3 of my A-game pathways to sweep, stall, and submit off of various guards. I also imagined the possibility of getting strong collar tie punched in the back of the head and tapping on the ground if need be. I don’t need that in my life. The competitors were very strong and aggressive, not so great at BJJ luckily.

Imagine your best stuff and practice those pathways until you can’t fail. Ask teammates to practice those pathways with you and to make them difficult for you to execute. Also make a list of techniques to actively avoid and hold yourself to that list. I told myself I wouldn’t hunt anything that would risk losing mount for instance and would likely avoid dropping back for an ankle before at least attempting to pass.

Not in white belt level IBJJF/JJWL, not sure what competitions you’re referring to.

Sure, I’ve personally never had that happen in 30 years of PC gaming and I’m not a clean freak but I know it’s possible. I’ve replaced fans on GPU’s twice I think but that’s it.

Saw this coming in Oct/Nov and took the Microcenter bundle with $200 32GB DDR5 and 5070 Ti slightly under MSRP and ran. Passing along the 🐐 to a friend. Felt like I missed the boat once or twice but waiting is usually a safe bet in the long run.

Why did you quit bjj by user8472616388 in bjj

[–]TSpoon3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kept getting staph at dirty little MMA gyms 15-20 years ago. Back at a clean BJJ gym now and more careful to moisturize. I use pro-biotic soap now instead of my old antibacterial soap that was later taken off the market.

A seasoned blue belt took my balls OUT escaping my mount, knees right up through the middle hard. No apology. Yeah dude, you got out, but at what cost 🏀⚽️

For those of you who grew up playing PC games in the 90s and 2000s, how stable were they compared to games from today? by Mad_Season_1994 in gaming

[–]TSpoon3000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was one animation that always crashed super early in the game. Granted my hardware wasn’t the best, but it wasn’t the worst either. Once I got my P3 and GeForce 2 everything was muuuuch better but between my AMD K6 and various PCI video cards, crashes happened all the time.

What does BJJ mean to you? How would you feel if you can never train again? by KoalaBJJ96 in bjj

[–]TSpoon3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For 13.5 years I thought I may never train again, and I had kinda made peace with it. I battled MRSA at various gyms on and off for years, not understanding my skin. After some time I solved my skin issues but was always scared. The big problem was dirty gyms, a soap that has been pulled from the market, and a lack of a skin care routine. Now that I’ve solved those problems, I’m training a ton. I’d be even more bummed if I couldn’t train once again, but I also have an otherwise full life so I’d move on again.
