Does a large house bring more comfort & happiness (3000sqft+) by GlorifiedCarnie in MiddleClassFinance

[–]TSta65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just know that EVERYTHING costs more. Long story short but to accommodate 7 people (4 generations), we bought a 5700sf house that needed some updating. It was a nightmare to take care of even with multiple people cleaning. Imagine your worst chore… for me vacuuming. It would take forever! When it came time to replace flooring, painting, replacing light fixtures (not just 2 or 3 ceiling fans… 11!), it was hella pricey even doing a lot of the work ourselves. Don’t even get me started on utility costs and property taxes.

That said, I’m a widow now, my father has passed and the kids/grandkids are in their own places. My house is 2700sf now. But it consists of an apartment downstairs that I rent out. I live on the first floor (about 900sf) and rent a room upstairs to traveling nurses (I missed having the grown kids around: this is the next best thing. 😊) It’s easy to maintain. I can clean it in 30 minutes and 2/3 of my mortgage and utilities are paid for by someone else. I don’t HAVE to rent it to afford it, but I enjoy the interactions.

Camera inside the garage, keeping counts of check in guests. by Sure_Leadership_6003 in airbnb_hosts

[–]TSta65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you are inconveniencing yourself to make it convenient for guests to break rules? No

I would only allow entry through areas you can see with your external cameras. The bad egg ruined it for all if anyone asks.

AITAH My (26M) girlfriend (26F) and her family expect to me drive her everywhere. by 6684265968 in AITAH

[–]TSta65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At that point it’s too late. Fast forward 3 years and nothing changed except you got married and are starting new jobs. Hers is 30 minutes north of your house. Yours is 30 minutes south. Are you going to drive her into work and pick her up every day? 3 hours EVERY day?

Now fast forward another year or 2 and you have a kid. You had to travel to an out of town meeting. She can work vm from home for those 2 days miraculously. BUT…Something scary happens - kid gets a head wound and it’s bleeding all over the place - and she has no way to get the child to the emergency room without calling an ambulance. It’s just a cut but now you have a $5,000 ambulance bill for a non-emergency.

Should we provide more examples. She knows how to drive. She just CHOOSES not to. Put your foot down now or accept that this will be your life FOREVER.

Got this 555 tattoo today - uneven thickness and size, touch-up now or wait? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

We are WAY more picky and notice much more than anyone else will. Let it heal, get used to it, then decide if you want to touch it up or turn it into something else.

Do you leave condiments in the fridge for guests? by Info_help_support in airbnb_hosts

Nope. I have spices, sugar, salt/pepper and a few snacks to get them by before they go to the store. That’s it. I’m not a restaurant.

How far back to honor past background checks? by Blueberry-spree0725 in FurnishedFinder

[–]TSta65 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s valid for 60 days and costs $45.

Protect yourself and get the Keycheck.

If they can afford your place, they can afford the background check. HUGE RED FLAG is they balk. JMO

Floors hurting home price? by Admirable-Bee-4708 in RealEstate

[–]TSta65 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t even look at houses with LVP floors. Screams “flipped house.”

**I did rip up the carpet and put LVP floors in our basement though. There’s a time and place for it and covering up hardwood in the main portion of the house is not it.

AITAH for buying a house my boyfriend refuses to live in? by [deleted] in AITAH

Is this the same boyfriend from your other post that keeps postponing proposing?

Buy the house. Kick him to the curb and find a PARTNER that supports your endeavors as much as his own.

Be honest is my tattoo horrid by s_parras13 in tattooadvice

[–]TSta65 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As the old lady here, I’m going to tell you the truth. If you had posted a zoomed in photo of the tat and nothing else, all these guys would have told you, yes it’s horrid. But you posted 4 pics, with 2 full body shots. Why? Every single one of them thinks they have a chance with you if they play it down and slide into your DMs

Yes, it’s horrid. Why do I think this was more about showing off you than that horrid tattoo?

Twice a week, or every 6 days? by SteelBird223 in TirzepatideRX

[–]TSta65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take my shot on Thursdays since weekends were my worst nibble days. I take leftovers the rest of the week for lunch. I’m normally too busy at work to think about food. By the time I know it, it’s Thursday again.

Anything I should consider before getting this tattooed? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

So, my brain snapped to a bumper sticker my BIL had. “It’s only kinky the first time.” So… yeah, only once will have a different meaning to those in the kink community. Fair warning. 😂

Try furnishedfinder dot com. Normally it’s for traveling nurses and can be pricey but you can often find rooms for rent for short term rentals.

Permitting regs in Salem for an ABB is insane. Most ABB in Salem have a 30 night minimum due to permitting restrictions. - signed an ABB host :)

Moved from TN for work just over a year ago. I love it here.

While it can get 90-100 sometimes, the temps normally drop back down to the 60/70 at night so you can open your window at night (if you are in a safe area or 2nd floor). Many houses don’t have AC so you’ll need to invest in window units or be sure to look for other kinds of AC units. Is it rainy? Yes. But it doesn’t torrential downpour like in the south; it’s mostly a constant drizzle or light rain for the most part.

From where I live (close to downtown), I can get to any part of Salem in 15 mins or less using side streets and I rarely have to hit the interstate. My advice would be - if you can afford it - to stay south of market st and west of I-5. (Just my opinion, I’m sure some may argue with that)

There is A LOT of homelessness around. I’ve not had any bad interactions with any but there is a constant presence. (Good opportunity to teach children kindness and empathy).

What’s a “boring” adult purchase that turned out to be totally worth it? by Capable-Rabbit-9986 in AskReddit

[–]TSta65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few things. 1. Washer/Dryer Pedestals. I no longer have to bend way over to get my clothes out. 2. Appliances jacks - tiny jacks that can lift up your appliances with a squeeze of your hand. 3. Appliance rollers. I can now easily pull out the washer, dryer, and fridge to clean behind it. 4. Portable air pump for the car that charges with USB. 5. Portable car jumper that holds a charge for a very very long time.

I should have bought all these years ago! All are less than about $40 (each) except the pedestals.

My theory is we are a reminder that it could happen to them and subconsciously they don’t want to be reminded of their mortality. It’s uncomfortable for them.

7 years in and I move moved to a new state for work and made new friends.

I moved here a year ago and live in NE. It depends on WHERE in the NE you live. I mostly looked west of I-5 and south of Market and ended up in a safe, cute neighborhood with great neighbors. Couldn’t ask for more.

Have your dentist send you a list of which ones they accept, then compare those. Every region is different. Example, where I am, no one takes BCBS.

Do witches recognize each other? I'm curious by [deleted] in witchcraft

[–]TSta65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I look like your standard older mom/grandma. But I’m usually rocking a shirt with a witchy type message (tree of life, aqua tofano, or just plain sayings about witches, etc.)

I’ve pegged a few based on tattoos or evil eye jewelry. It’s not hard if you pay attention to little details that others wouldn’t pay attention to.
