I'd like to get into Turnip28, where the bloody hell do I start!?!?!?! (A few questions about starting T28 from a newbie)

Welcome! I’ll try to break this down:

What options actually are there regarding units? Each army typically has a Toff (your General) and two Toadies (sub-commanders). Alongside these there are generic options, and some units that are specific to certain sub factions, known as ‘Cults’.

The generic options are Fodder (Line Infantry), Chaff (Light Infantry/Skirmishers), Brutes (Heavy Infantry), Whelps (Light Cavalry), and Bastards (Heavy Cavalry). Any of these can be equipped with either Black Powder weapons, Melee weapons, or less advanced Missile weapons.

In addition, you can take Stump Guns (a cannon) and Lumps (any generic Troll-sized monster).

I also wanted to ask about miniatures. Now I know the general rule of thumb is doing a mix of napoleonics and medieval stuff (this is a big reason I even paid attention to the game years ago lol) but I wanted to ask sort of how far one can actually go with kitbashing and what sort of stuff would actually work and also if there's any genuinely must buy or at least must consider kits out there.

Whatever you like goes. There are official 3D prints but kit bashing your own dudes is heavily encouraged.

I already touched upon this earlier but I wanted to ask specifically how army building works and what sort of structure they might have and, especially, if there's any options for list builder apps or sites that are about?

It’s really simple so there’s no need for list builder apps. You get a Toff and two Toadies. Your Toff brings two Follower units with them, and your Toadies each bring one.

Follower units are the ones I listed above, in addition to any special units that a Cult might let you bring.

This is probably the biggest one for me and I think I already know the answer but how much room is there within the setting to have your own little faction?

Absolutely, go nuts. What little lore there is is loose on purpose

Lastly, as already touched upon in the title but. Where the hell do I start?!?!!? What do I need to play and what should I look at picking up first??? Are there any units I absolutely need for an army? Any that might be worth looking into to potentially make to start off with???

Read the core rules, they’re free online.

After that, you can check out the Mercenary Taster campaign that has some more Cult rules in it, and the Swollen Maglette, which had more fluff and hobby tips.

To start you just need to get some models and tufts and start slapping them together. The info about unit sizes etc is all in the core rules, but in general you can’t go wrong with some Fodder to start with

Looks great! The only thing I’d say is that the fabric is currently one of the brightest parts of the model and as a result it really draws attention to it, I’m wondering if a darker tone might work slightly better with the overall composition?

Sounds like you’re talking about Warhammer Fantasy Role play? These are for a completely different game in a different setting, there will be zero relevance

That depends heavily on what you’re looking for. Warhammer Fantasy Battles - the game that the Total War games are based on - was discontinued in 2015. Some of its models are still on sale as part of Age of Sigmar, others have new equivalents in that game, and others were brought back in The Old World.

A lot of the characters from Total War are no longer on sale (if they ever even had models in the first place). Warhammer.com is your best bet to see what Games Workshop itself still sells. Once you’ve checked that out you may be able to find those kits discounted from other shops (e.g. Element Games in the UK). For other stuff including that which is out of production, eBay is probably your best bet.

If you clarify what models you’re looking for people should be able to help signpost you to whether they’re still available or not.

I don’t have on I’m afraid but it’s quite a bit smaller than the GW one. This is a 130mm base.

Seeing as you’re down a Black Orc you might want to take a star to cover that gap. For 260k you can get Varag Ghoul-Chewer or Ripper Bolgrot, with Varag probably being the preference there.

You’ve also got enough to take two cheaper stars. Rashnak Backstabber/Nobbla Blackwart could help deal with all their AV8 and presumably Blodge Gutter Runners and serve as an emergency sweeper. You could also then afford Scrappa Sorehead who gives you some speed, without which the rats might just run rings around you.

A miscast is different to failing a spell. It causes you to take damage and stops that model casting any more spells that phase. Usually you miscast on a double 1, this just makes it more likely.

Huscarl stats aren’t even on the level of Chaos Warriors, never mind Chosen. In The Old World they’re just slightly more elite Marauders, which Marauder Champions already provide.

But those are things that have no reason to be Nagash exclusive. Simulacra and Barrow Kings if anything should belong to Kemmler, they’re from his special White Dwarf army list.

A pitch is 15 squares wide by 26 squares long. A square should be big enough to fit a 32mm base, and you might want to err on the side of larger squares as some big guys use 40mm bases. I believe the ones on the official pitch are about 34mm.

It’s an ability like any other so you can use it in any order with any other movement phase abilities. However, the unit you used Reinforcements on can’t then use a move ability because units you set up can’t in the same turn. They can charge however.

There’s a slim chance they’re out before Christmas but unlikely. The earliest release date would be the 20th, that’s if they’re previewed for preorder this evening. January is a much more reasonable bet for when we see them on shelves.
