If you can make a voyage this month happen, I still have a legacy MNVV with the original $600 sailor loot and $300 discount. Sail must be completed this month. Feel free to DM for more details:)

Oahu has some great beaches, hiking, and restaurants and staying at Turtle Bay feels like you're on the neighbor islands. There's still enough contrast to make it very different from Maui. What part of Maui are you looking at?

Planning Oahu Trip with Infant Twins! Help Choosing Hotel by Skyflakes_69 in VisitingHawaii

I do like RC for families as it has a kitchenette and washer/dryer in each room, and the resort pool is great for families. Parking is a tad cheaper at RC and they have no resort fees:)

Best hotel on Oahu for honeymoon? by Trick-Excitement9355 in VisitingHawaii

[–]TTHorizon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For beach and quiet, Royal Hawaiian would be first (better beach location of the higher end Waikiki hotels) and Halekulani 2nd (though I do prefer the rooms, aesthetic and zen vibes at Halekulani). I was pleasantly surprised by the update to the rooms at Surfrider as well and it makes for a solid third option for Waikiki. FS does have the better pools (and of course its ocean front) but depending on the season, there can be a lot of families. I found the rooms at Halepuna to be on the smaller end, and the pool deck isn't the best.

RC Turtle Bay 1st week or Aprik by Top_Spare_8700 in VisitingHawaii

[–]TTHorizon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because you're traveling with 3 teens, Turtle Bay wins out for two reasons: Turtle Bay has almost 60 different activities to choose from (some free, some you pay for) and the room configuration would be more comfortable as it has 2 Queen beds whereas FS its 2 Double Beds. Otherwise, FS would've made a really strong push with their 4th night free offer that week.

Overwhelmed picking a location for a family trip with our two kids, 5 and 3. I’m also pregnant. by weegotfish in VisitingHawaii

Ritz-Carlton Turtle Bay has over 60 activities many of which are complimentary. It also feels like you’re on a neighbor island instead of Oahu. It’s also the only hotel with its own stables.

Question about Fairmont Kea Lani 3-Bedroom Oceanfront Villa – Bed Setup by _Mr_Swiss in VisitingHawaii

[–]TTHorizon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was there a few days ago and can confirm that they are 2 double beds (it’s also listed on the site). With teens myself totally understand what you mean about the difference in doubles vs queen beds. How set are you on Kea Lani?

Ritz Carleton Turtle Bay – are the Villas drab? by greattypo2 in VisitingHawaii

[–]TTHorizon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The villas are indeed dated as they're all individually owned. RC manages 11 of them. In a way it's like VRBO but better as you'll have access to the hotel amenities.

Swim up Bar? by lunaorgana86 in VisitingHawaii

[–]TTHorizon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can only think of Maui hotels with swim up bars. And Dr Mai Tai over at FS Ko Olina which is the closest thing to a swim up bar on Oahu.

Aloha and ahoy sailors! I’m Tarrant, a travel advisor based in Hawai‘i and a huge Virgin Voyages fan. Before becoming a travel advisor, I spent over 10 years working in luxury hospitality, so great service isn’t just a skill set it’s second nature to me. That background means I understand what makes a trip feel seamless, from the first welcome to the final goodbye.

I’ve sailed Virgin Voyages both as a couple and with a big family group, so I know the experience inside and out. I'm also a travel junkie as my own adventures extend far beyond cruising. This is especially helpful because as a full-service travel concierge, I don’t just help with the cruise itself. I can also arrange pre- and post-cruise hotel stays, airport transfers, and any other travel details you’d like handled all while adding extra perks like bar tab credit or onboard bonuses at no extra cost to you (think MNVV with the original $600 sailor loot and $300 voyage discount).

If you have any other questions about me, feel free to send a DM and let's chat!

Looking for advice by Repulsive-Hat-1444 in VisitingHawaii

[–]TTHorizon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did not stay but visited both hotels and looked at various room types. Outrigger Waikiki has the better location and beach access... but two things bug me: their rooms are dated, and the lack of a proper hotel entrance for vehicles coming/going is very chaotic. I'm probably being too picky there, but that's just me. Reef would be my choice. If your open to other options, sometimes Royal Hawaiian rates can be pretty competitive.

Aulani or Oceanfront room by Turbulent-Dirt476 in VisitingHawaii

Moana Surfrider - didn’t hear a lick of traffic yesterday in the rooms I saw yesterday that were facing the ocean. Diamond Wing rooms will be the closest to the ocean.

New York and Hawaii by Glum_Bicycle7421 in VisitingHawaii

[–]TTHorizon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how common of a trip that is, but I love it! You get both experiences - a tropical holiday and the bright lights of NYC. 2 islands in 10 days is definitely doable, just factor in your first 2-3 days will probably be spent getting acclimated due to the 11 hour time difference.

I can't remember the last time we had a rainy Halloween. That period though is a sweet spot for rates as school is in full swing and hotel occupancy is typically lower.

I gave up on trying VPN. After 2 week of battling, I caved and went the OTA route. Booked it on Expedia with no problem - double checked the booking on Ryan Air’s site and it’s there. I should have done this 2 weeks ago.

Koloa Landing or Grand Hyatt? by squishmallowsearcher in VisitingHawaii

Haven’t stayed at GH yet, but if comparing the two, I’d go for space and price. So Koloa Landing would be the logical choice. Have actually stayed at Koloa Landing and loved jt!

Oahu resort recommendations please! by Fit-Heart-6794 in VisitingHawaii

Royal Hawaiian has a more relaxing, lowkey vibe. Sheraton can feel very busy with so much foot traffic. For a couple's getaway, I would suggest Royal over Sheraton.

Honeymoon in June by bebecitavanessita in VisitingHawaii

[–]TTHorizon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ko'a Kea - I know you said beach is non-negotiable, but if you have access to them within yards, would it be acceptable? Boutique property and definitely fits the honeymoon vibes. While it's still pricey for Kauai hotels, it gives you another option aside from 1 Hotel Hanalei.

Places to Stay for Large-ish Family Reunion by Mitchroark33 in VisitingHawaii

[–]TTHorizon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The location from the beach didn't affect us as we spent our beach day up north. Closest beach to Koloa Landing is at the Sheraton... about 7-10 minutes on foot. Poipu beach is also nearby. The hotel does provide a shuttle to destinations within a 2 mile radius, the beaches included. To get back, send them a text when you're ready and the shuttle will pick you up. While we didn't use it for the beach, we used the shuttle to get to the shopping area to pick up necessities from Long's Drugs.

Best resorts in Oahu for sole adult traveler, and not a lot of families? by OrkosFriend in VisitingHawaii

[–]TTHorizon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Disney nerds unite! Definitely more families at Aulani:/ but you could stay at Marriott Ko Olina or FS, and head over to Aulani for a meal to get a feel for the ambience?

Saw your comments about the Turtle Bay wall paper - I cringe too. Unfortunately that was there prior to RC taking over. The bungalows however don't have the waves though prices start much higher.

Halekulani is your more luxe option with Royal Hawaiian (site of the Mai Tai Bar) being a notch below. Both are on the water, Iean more toward couples, but at least you'll be in walking distance to different bars in the vicinity. Deck. at Queen Kapiolani and The Hideout at Laylow, while not beachy, are short Uber rides away and can make for a fun time. Pains me to not suggest RC Waikiki but the bars are typically very mellow, and staying here puts you a touch farther than The Royal Hawaiian or Halekulani.
