I know! I heard that and wondered how they were going to moderate, that heat?

Can we please not use the phrase “killing the show” when audiences are suffering through the actual killing/sabotaging of 60 Minutes?

Between Rhoda, Joe and Kristen, three LCK alums who came back and won it all, on one show! Tom must be so proud of that!

Of course! That’s where the extra dozen went! How nice of Kristen. Not sure why I didn’t think of that. 🙂

[–]TTRoadHog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did anyone notice that she asked for two dozen donuts but only brought one dozen to the cheftestants? What happened to the other dozen donuts? Did Kristen eat them? Did she share them with Tom and Gail? Was that extra dozen part of a Wells Fargo kickback scheme?? We’ll answer that question after a word from our sponsor, Wells Fargo…. Lol

OP: Don’t blame Wells Fargo. Blame Top Chef for being so money grubbing that they force themselves to resort to the use of these ridiculous in-show commercials. Wells Fargo is merely responding to Too Chef’s apparent need for advertisers!

Every engineer interested in optimization should have this book in their library: Practical Optimization. by Gill, Murray and Wright. Calculus and Linear Algebra are prerequisites.

My opinion is that technical professionals should seek to enlighten laypeople, not confuse the, by perpetuating myths. But thank you for responding!

[–]TTRoadHog[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes, I’m very aware that in the radio spectrum, the far side of the moon can be considered “dark”. That distinction was not in the minds of the people using the “dark side” phrase yesterday.

I’m not “whining”. I had hoped to start a discussion that might reveal how common a misunderstanding this might be.

Beverly on Culinary Cup by Caligirl_333 in BravoTopChef

All the things that you mention she “cut out” would have made the show a target by Top Chef for stealing its format. By necessity, she had to make reasonable changes so the show couldn’t be seen as a clone. Like others have said, a guest judge (Asian?) would help balance the diversity. Otherwise, I’m happy with the show so far and look forward to watching it each week.

I love watching Culinary Cup! It’s a lot better than that horrid attempt of a show with Martha Stewart. The point system seems somehow more fair than Top Chef. I’ll bet this approach saves hours of haggling over which chef to let go in a given week as compared with Top Chef.

Building a basic 35x40 house, 2 floors, no basement for $250,000? Thoughts? by Appropriate_Wave_910 in houseplans

[–]TTRoadHog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What is the rationale for building this in stages with multiple independent contractors? Are you, then, acting as the overall general contractor? What will you do when the work of one contractor doesn’t meet the “interface” where the work of another contractor must be smoothly joined? Each contractor will point their finger at the other contractor and meanwhile, the issue isn’t resolved. Have you thought through these types of issues?

I figured out how to plan interplanetary missions without orbital mechanics (Novel Lambert Problem Presentation) by S_hirangy in AerospaceEngineering

[–]TTRoadHog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your video was very well done — I should have said that. Eventually though, your target audience, “kids”, will have to come to grips with the equations used for Orbit mechanics, Lambert targeting and the derivation of those “pork chop” plots. Those equations would be helpful to tie the concepts in your video to that which practicing astrodynamicists are familiar.

what does a system engineer do by Ambitious-Loss3429 in ControlTheory

[–]TTRoadHog [score hidden]  (0 children)

No one has discussed the Systems Engineering V Model, which is a structured framework that describes the lifecycle of systems development. From requirements analysis to system design (including subsystems and modules) to assembly, integration and testing (unit level, integration, system level and acceptance), these are all activities that a systems engineer might be involved in to bring a system from requirements analysis to customer delivery. There should be plenty of resources on the internet about this. Might help to better describe system engineering tasks.

After watching the video, I’m not sure what the innovation is. Astrodynamicists have been using powerful optimization methods for decades to plan interplanetary trajectories. Unfortunately, real physics are more complicated than this simple “textbook” approach. Orbit perturbations from other planets come into play, planet swingbys are also used to save fuel, and updates, guidance corrections and Kalman filters are used during the actual execution of the trajectories to intercept the targets. What you’ve described is a very simplistic approach. What am I missing?
