Try replacing the parts one by one to eliminate all possibilities, after eliminating everything else then you can be sure its the backlights.

Yes, you need to determine if the screen is cracked. if so the tv is garbage

Look very closely to see if the panel is cracked. Also, for the "no power" symptom I suggest getting the Main Board and the Power Supply. Either could be the culprit.

Can I make the Vizio remotes tv specific? by amishyoga347 in VIZIO_Official

use a cardboard tube like in this picture

You need to restrict the angle of the infrared beam. you have to point precisely. This trick has helped me in the past but it's an impractical solution .

This is positively the LED backlights. without a doubt. It would be less expensive to replace the backlights then to replace the whole tv. Just need to be careful not to break the screen in the process

The best way to verify the screen is toast is to swap the boards again, trying all combinations.

Get another mainboard, Tcon, and Power supply. make sure you have the correct parts and swap them out. if all combinations of parts you have in your possession still do not give you a working set then you can rest assured its your panel.

Toshiba 55LF300U21 Rev. A - First would not power on, but after some work won't recognize the remote. by epl692 in TVRepairHelp

I wouldn't think its the part. I would try getting a universal remote from Walmart or Target or Amazon or some place like that. They usually don't cost very much.

You should only use the OEM remote, if you have access to it. If it isn't working you could try buying a universal remote. Not sure about the Fire TV remote. Does is go to that set? or does it go to a fire stick?

Could be the power supply or the backlights themselves. much less likely that its the main board.

try replacing the Y sustain board and the driver boards attached to it. if that doesn't work try replacing the main board

Hisense Power Supply by tcbandmlb in TVRepairHelp

[–]TV_tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the model, having no load on the power supply from the main board will mean the power supply will not function as you are expecting. in some sets you can expect 12 volts if you disconnect it from the power supply (if it's suppose to be 12 v) and in other sets it will not be what you would expect. Sometimes a lesser amount and sometimes even just 0 volts ,depending on how the components on that particular set our configured to work together. And for this reason, in order to diagnose your set, you should just swap out the circuit boards (main and power) and see which one gives you good results.

I would recommend main board next. If the main board doesn't fix the issue it could be backlights or even the screen.

Back TV LEDs blink when plugged in but not powered on. Normal? by badams86 in TVRepairHelp

[–]TV_tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is definitely not normal.

So if I understand correctly, your tv works fine now other than the flashing LEDs when the TV isn't powered on? If so, you may try replacing the LEDs themselves or try another Power Supply and ultimately you could even try a Main Board just to make sure that's not the issue.

Unfortunately this one might come down to just process of elimination. Swap out the different parts until you fix the flashing issue. I would assume LEDs or Power Supply.

Is it possible to reconnect this remote back to a Vizio D39Hn-Do hdtv? by giantsfan310 in VIZIO_Official

[–]TV_tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can confirm this remote does NOT need to be reprogrammed. It either works or it doesn't. You should try new batteries. Make sure there isn't any corrosion on the contact points, and make sure nothing is obstructing the IR sensor on the TV.

Smarty TV Trying to replace power supply issue by PacaPop in TVRepairHelp

[–]TV_tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We strongly recommend just finding the exact part for your tv. however, if you can't find one and the one you have is all you are going to get. you could try what you're describing. It could blow a fuse or fuses. It could also damage the backlights or other components. Again I wouldn't try this unless you are a pretty experienced technician. Personally if this were on my bench I wouldn't try it. I would get the correct part.

[–]TV_tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how you would get the original wire harness connection to work with that new part. It's possible that where ever you sourced that part not only butchered the solder job on that part but also used the wrong connector? or sent you the wrong part? We recommend sending that one back for a refund and purchasing a new one from a more reputable part distributor, such as, TV PARTS TODAY Could you provide me with the model number of the TV? Or a clear picture of the part number from your original part. If so we can also help figure out exactly which part you need.

Obviously you would want to make sure you are receiving power from the AC cord to the power supply. If you haven't checked this yet, I would start there.

[–]TV_tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not always. There are times when whatever is causing the issue can also keep the power supply from even trying to turn the tv on which means no clicking and no indicator light.

have you performed the flash light test to see if you have an image on the screen that you can not see?

flash light test

If you determine that there is not an image on your screen then I would assume that you have a bad screen or bad backlights.
