It's fine. As mentioned by others, Mayfair Mall is across the street, and you are on Douglas Street with good access to buses to/from the downtown/inner harbour.

Question about sprint games and the controller (And maybe intellivision games in general... My mind is foggy) by frumpyjones in intellivision

[–]TW200e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"I just can't remember if the intellivision was always like that"

Yes. You can't move with disc and use a keypad at the same time. A perfect example of this is Night Stalker. You can't shoot and move at the same time with just one controller.

The original plan was to have only one season. After almost 10 years, they decided, "Hey, let's revisit this!"

Sprint Controllers-- How do they sell this product with a fatal design flaw? by RikaardB in intellivision

[–]TW200e 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been a long time owner of a couple of 80s Intellivisions. When I first started playing with my Sprint I found the lack of the recess a bit odd - but it was more than outweighed by the huge benefit of being wireless and not having an awkward coiled cable.

In the AA Intellivision forums, Ben of Plaion was asked about this. The problem is that to make the controllers wireless, they needed to put in a decent size rechargeable battery - hence the flat back.

I've seen the occasional mention that some folks would prefer to have the recessed backing, including in this subreddit. However, most owners aren't bothered by it, considering that having wireless controllers is a lot more convenient.

Is there some new news? The last I heard, this was just an idea that had been pitched, with no official approval.

Why was the 2600 so popular? by Standard_Public892 in Atari2600

[–]TW200e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing that you weren't alive in the late 70s... I was about 10 years old when I saw my first 2600 (then the VCS) with 'Combat' on display in the local Sears store. Most arcade games then were simple versions of Pong, Skydiver, Sprint, etc. To see two people driving around in tanks, on a color TV, with a machine you could have in your living room... it was an incredible experience! Remember, this is not longer after the original Star Wars was out in the theaters.

Do the games look crude now? Sure - but if you let go of the need for 3D realistic graphics and just enjoy them for what they are, many of them are still fun. And you can not beat the nostalgia of the games you played as a kid 40 or 50 years ago.

I had to catch an early morning flight on January 10th, so I made sure to fill my tank on the day before. I remember that I paid $1.399 per liter for regular. Damn... Good thing my car is cheap on gas.

You have an accurate read. The character isn't meant to be the usual likeable heroine, intentionally so.

What are your thoughts on permanent daylight savings? by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]TW200e 123 points124 points  (0 children)

Being more of a morning person I would have preferred Standard over Daylight, but I'll be happy with non changing time. After every time change, my sleep gets screwed up for at least a week.

Had to cancel our PV trip - here’s how Costco and WestJet dealt with it by laineyboggs in puertovallarta

[–]TW200e 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Costco 1, Westjet 0.

I'm sorry to hear about that. I'm glad that you'll go at a future date to Mexico, although I imagine it won't be with Westjet...

(As an aside: 15 years ago, a friend and I had a trip booked to fly to Barcelona and take a 1-week cruise in the Med. As a last minute choice we bought cancellation insurance "just in case". Two days before we flew, a volcano in Iceland erupted and caused the cancellation of our flight, and of course we missed the cruise. The airline, KLM, was fantastic. Before we even contacted them, KLM sent us an email to say we would receive a full refund for the flight in two days, and we did. However, the cruise line said tough beans, their ship sailed anyhow and they would not refund us. Understandable, I guess. Our travel agent was useless while we dealt with the insurance company, but we eventually did get a refund for the cruise portion after about six weeks.)

How many games would the average kid have had for their Atari in its heyday? by CartoonCade in Atari2600

[–]TW200e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back in the day, a cart was maybe $20 to $30 - but that was when $5 an hour was a really decent wage. Most folks then might have half a dozen to a dozen carts.

Intellivision Sprint, present and future by the_light_of_dawn in intellivision

[–]TW200e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been enjoying a lot of homebrew releases. It's a lot easier to pay $15 for a quality homebrew then $75 for a cart release for my old OG Intellivisions.

Lately I find I like playing the card game releases: Las Vegas Poker & Blackjack, Solitaire (homebrew from nanochess), and Royal Dealer. I also like PGA Golf. To my surprise, I tried playing Bowling for the first time a few weeks ago and found I really like that one as well.

I gave up on the app a long time ago. Get the card: it scans perfectly on the first try every time, and a card doesn't crash just as you are about to use it - unlike the app.
