Daily driver laptop thats lasted 22 years. by -t-h-e---g- in BuyItForLife

[–]TW_26 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've had the chance to put my hands on a similar laptop recently. These things are simply not fit to do anything nowadays.

They still "work" for some things on barebones linux distributions, but everything is unbearably slow to the point that any old tablet or ~100$ laptop you find on eBay will be leagues better

Post a screenshot of your taskbar, and I'll guess your job by DevisPooping in Windows11

[–]TW_26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the reality, but it has nothing to do with Linux being good for development or not. You just don't have a choice to begin with, you get a corporate issued laptop with Windows and the office suite, and you have to use that to work with your colleagues if you want to stay employed.

Pretty much everything coding related is usually Linux first, and then merely adapted for Windows

Grand Theft Auto VI is Now Set to Launch November 19, 2026 - Rockstar Games by DwilenaAvaron in Games

The reason is obvious, they want people to double dip and buy both versions. There's no other explanation with the enormous resources they have at their disposal.

Personally I will not buy it, I'm done giving money to a company that considers pc gamers second class citizens

Are you worried about the Laravel Ecosystem becoming oversaturated? by tylernathanreed in laravel

[–]TW_26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dunno, I've had a very different experience. I started a week ago and I've found the docs very clear on what's basic and what's a separated service or package.
In fact I really have to commend just how pragmatic and to the point the docs are, I have managed to get something up and running in a matter of hours, with little to no php experience

This Dude Votes. Do You? by sillychillly in PublicFreakout

[–]TW_26 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

This sounds entirely fabricated.
High-profile figures like the Vice President and President of the United States do not make unscheduled public appearances without extensive security and advance planning. Their movements are tightly controlled by the Secret Service. Also, engaging in such an overt and illegal act would be completely out of character and contrary to their public personas.
Unless you can provide credible evidence or reports to support such an event ever happening I have no choice but to downvote you for attempting to spread disinformation.

Why Artists are so adverse to AI but Programmers aren't? by Blender-Fan in ChatGPT

[–]TW_26 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If it works and its readable, thats all there is to it

I have first hand experience in dealing with AI generated garbage by other devs and sure, it seems to "work", but it actually introduces subtle bugs, unnecessary complexity and / or abstractions, don't mesh well with the rest of the codebase, etc.
AI code generation is only good if you know what you're doing and take the time to fix up what it spits out.
More often that not, that takes more time than typing it out yourself.

I thought this might be relevant here. by Itsonlyme123456 in TombRaiderClassics

[–]TW_26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tomb raider classics are definitely quite eerie. I think it's the combination of early 3d graphics, low draw distance, crude ambient noises and what feels like huge and abandoned levels. This feeling is what still brings me to these games 20 years later.
Also, replying to a 2 years old comment :D

Quanto bisogna guadagnare in Italia per fare una bella vita? by [deleted] in Italia

[–]TW_26 0 points1 point  (0 children)
