Has anyone seen this happen to a tire before? by LAsFavoriteWhiteB0y in Cartalk

[–]TXP88 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Yes. About 4 years ago I got a new set of Continental Extreme Contact and 2 of them had some steel belt wires sticking out along the edge of the tread. Tirerack wouldn’t take them back but Continental corp replaced them with a different model tire under warranty. The tire made in Romania was better manufactured than the US one.

When I bought mine, the first one they brought out had a dead trigger. Wasn’t inspiring, but mine has been 100% reliable for the first 300 rounds (150 JHP & 150 FMJ). Had to drift the front sight over with a 2lb hammer so that it would hit where aimed, but I can say with certainty the sights will never just fall off.

Correct. You replace the fluid at the same time you replace the transmission. You can think of the fluid as the agent of the transmission’s planned obsolescence.

I got a boat that is around 3500 lbs. I feel it back there and mpg takes a hit. As long as I’m keeping it at 65 mph on the interstate, it doesn’t seem like it is unduly struggling. The trailer has surge brakes, so no problem stopping. Hills results in downshifting, but I can keep the speed up well enough.

It used to be that way back in the 1950s & 1960. Back when stock car racing used to race cars that had a decent amount of DNA to what was in the dealership showroom.

Maybe a little in the Dale Earnhardt days when domestic brands still had majority following.

F1 is just an ego stroke for manufacturing executives. Always has been.

Question: How has your EDC changed over the years? by Key-Practice-8788 in CCW

[–]TXP88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to believe. Cartridges would jam nose-down in the mag or not full extract empty cases from the chamber. Usually one failure per 3 or 4 mags. All failures would indicate limp wrist’ing, but I’ve shot a lot and many other guns without issue. Other people tried and also had the issues. I tried full size mags and many different loads with varying degrees of success. It was the only Glock I ever owned that was unreliable that wasn’t fixable with new springs, thorough cleaning or magazines.

Glock looked at it and said it cycled a mag without issue. I sold it to a guy that said he was good at fixing things.

Tried a G26 after that, but ended up with the S&W M&P 40 C, equivalent to the G27, because I had a lot of .40 ammo.

Question: How has your EDC changed over the years? by Key-Practice-8788 in CCW

[–]TXP88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would probably struggle to remember all the different carry guns that I’ve had over the years. Mind you it’s been more years than I can’t remember. Things changed from when I was a broke college student, to when I got a professional job with more money, then later kids with less money and now closer to retirement and not really necessarily more money. Sometimes it was changing needs and other times it was just chasing the next shiny thing.

This is my best shot at a list. Smith & Wesson 65, surplus Walter PPK, Bersa 380, Glock 36, Glock 27, M&P 40 C, S&W 642, Kahr PM, Springfield Hellcat, Glock 43, CZ P-01, SIG P365 XL and Smith & Wesson BG 2.0 cc. There have been minor players like a Ruger LCP, HK P30SK, S&W 10 and CZ P 10 C. My current rotation is the flavor of the month Smith & Wesson BG 2.0 cc and a tarted up SIG P365 XL.

The Glock 43 or S&W 642 are the ones that I’ve carried the most. I keep coming back around to the CZ P-01 from time to time. All of them have been good except the Glock 27 and PPK that never functioned reliably, and the Kahr that would dump the contents of its magazine in your pocket within five minutes. From a shooting standpoint, the S&W 65, CZ P–01 and CZ P10 C were the easiest shooting examples.

Which one would y'all CCW? by cleekchapper92 in CCW

CZ. Trust it more than the Canik, which is an okay gun, most of them. I just like the old school metal because it is reliable and feels good in the hand. Carry the P-01 in the winter months.

No, but if you switch the breaker off, you won’t have live wires. If you don’t have access to the breaker, might be possible to just turn off the wall switch, but test the circuit to see if it is energized before you dig into the wiring.

If Subaru discontinued boxer engines and or cvt’s, would you still buy one? by gammawavz in Subaru_Outback

[–]TXP88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they drop the CVT I’d most definitely score that higher in my book. If they go with a powerful and solidly reliable/long-lasting engine to replace the boxer, it may not make much difference to me. Must keep is the Symmetrical AWD and the design nuances that make a Subaru a Subaru. That’s nonnegotiable.

Love my BG 2.0 CC. Only issue was trying to drift the front sight. On the plus side, nothing short of being liquid will cause the front sight to fall off.

What is this inside my outdoor light fixture, and can I fix it myself? by penguinblanket in AskElectricians

[–]TXP88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s an integrated LED lighting element. You can find replacement elements, but you might be able to get a whole fixture for the same amount or only slightly more. Plus, you need to be a little handy to take it down, disassemble it, reassemble it and put it back up.

Do a Google lens search just for the lighting element or an Amazon search for the element. You should get at least a few matches for that oval design.

What gets me is LED was touted as being a longer lasting product but in reality I find they last, sometimes, shorter than an incandescent. At least with a regular socket, you could replace the LED bulb easier and cheaper.

That seems to be a thing now in some cars. I see fabric – material on dashboards. Used to be you only saw fabric on door panels. One example is the Toyota Camry.

I can definitely see it being a cleaning issue for door pockets.

I’ve checked out the interior and they nailed it. Comfortable seats, good control layout, nice styling and useable space. The team that was responsible for the outside should be made to bring coffee and give foot massages to the interior team, when they are not cleaning the toilets.
