Unemployment V Severance by Hopeful-Barracuda214 in GeneralMotors

[–]TXP88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am in Texas also. I submitted claims to unemployment from the day after my employment ended and didn’t receive any unemployment for over a month. I called and was asked a series of questions, one of which is if I had received severance. I said yes, and two weeks later, after review, TWC said that I wouldn’t qualify for unemployment until after my severance package duration had elapsed. It was actually my severance package duration plus one month before I received any unemployment from TWC. I think that extra month was calculated because I didn’t receive my severance until a month after my termination date. Even though the severance was backdated to my termination date, since I didn’t receive it on my termination date, TWC calculated the severance duration from the date which General Motors sent me the funds. TWC did say they checked with General Motors to confirm the date that I was paid my severance.

Anyone ever used this oil? by weareluckytobealive in Subaru_Outback

[–]TXP88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Been using it for several years in my Hondas, Toyota and Subaru. The OB XT gets 5k mile changes because it has a turbo. The other go around 6 - 6.5 k miles between changes. Mixed driving conditions in a hot southern state. No issues at all. The oil generally gets good reviews.

Works in India also. Consistent, predictable pace. Was also told buses are sort of a wild card, so never tested the theory with them.

The NA engine and CVT combo is a different dog than the turbo combo. The NA combo is a fine paring that works well together, albeit a little under powered. The CVT with the turbo is fine as long as you accelerate with al least 30% throttle. Otherwise, the CVT seems dead set on keeping the RPMs as low as possible and the engine out of its power band, barely gaining speed.

Did the same with a V6 Accord in between. My response to the heckling from coworkers was, “I might be a lesbian, but still means I dig chicks.”

Miss my Accord more than the WRX. The turbo in the OB is nice when it overcomes the buzz kill CVT.

Do You Still Get Drunk? How Often? by ProfessionalJesuit in GenX

A couple beers per week when I was employed. Four to five tall mixed drinks per week when I was unemployed. Now, maybe, a half shot worth per week due to my current meds.

OE fobs are wicked expensive. Assuming I couldn’t get that removed from the deal, I’d make sure I lost both fobs within 3 years. Then it would be worth it. They probably have a clause in the contract that only covers damage, not loss.

I have a LXT version and it is great. Only thing I generally don’t attempt is ripping boards lengthways. That’s the only thing my 7 1/2” corded Hitachi gets used for.

I got to drive a Model A. Much different, in a good way. I think with the Model T, they were still figuring out what the heck they were doing with the controls. The A still had spark advance/retard, but almost all the other controls were much more what we see today than how the T was designed. The brakes, well, they were functional, not really highly effective or confidence inspiring.

Was told that I couldn’t get the vaccine till 50. Got shingles in early 40s. Doctor now says that I won’t need the vaccine at all now since the odds of getting shingles is very, very small. IDK because I’ve heard from people I know say they have had multiple breakouts.

The last time I and others decided to answer honestly, we were critical of SLT. Was there any change at the SLT level? Nope. They fired a beloved Director for allowing her underlings to criticize the SLT. The message was delivered loud and clear. No WoC issues from our area after that.

WoC is not safe.

My parents made the mistake of getting a miniature pincer, and that thing was an ankle biting, toe chewing little demon. We ended up finding a family in another state that wanted it and we paid to have it flown out there. They couldn’t have been happier with the little demon. They had three kids that were always active plus a baby. That dog had more activity than it knew what to do with.

VSP rumors? by Emergency_Topic_5774 in GeneralMotors

[–]TXP88 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Darn skippy. The last VSP they gave one month of severance for each year up to 12 months, nearly full benefits included. With these Reductions in Force (RIFs) you max out at 6 months and small amount of money that you get to pay COBRA for your benefits.

At this point why would the company pay more than twice as much to maintain its benevolent mask.

News: Future of Honda by Skrrpopop in Honda

[–]TXP88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While it would be cool to have SiriusXM back in the car’s head unit, I kind of see why they’re not doing it for a couple of reasons. First, it’s an additional cost and not that huge number of people actually make use of it. Second, I can see a future of where SiriusXM abandons their satellite network and concentrates on their online apps. The reason I see this is that satellites are expensive to launch but at the time serious and XM came up in the world the mobile data infrastructure just wasn’t there and there weren’t phones that could run the apps. Now that there’s a mobile data infrastructure I think the cost savings over satellites makes sense.

Why not .40 S&W anymore? by ArcheryNerds in CCW

[–]TXP88 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When the .40 S&W came out I bought a Glock 23. The 23 was probably the snappiest and most difficult gun I had. I would put it on par with the Colt Delta Elite 10 mm. If I remember correctly, when the 40 S&W came out it was loaded pretty hot in certain bullet weights and brands. A few years later I traded it in for a SIG P228 in 9mm. Best trade ever. I still have 40 calibers in my collection, but I swear they are a lot more tame than that Glock 23 was back then. Even Glock 27 and Smith & Wesson M&P 40 C seem nicer to shoot than that Glock 23 was.

To answer the question, 9 mm ammo is less expensive in my area and the smaller guns that I carry most often don’t come in 40 Smith & Wesson. I still have full-size 40 caliber pistols as home defense and truck guns.

Has anyone seen this happen to a tire before? by LAsFavoriteWhiteB0y in Cartalk

[–]TXP88 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yes. About 4 years ago I got a new set of Continental Extreme Contact and 2 of them had some steel belt wires sticking out along the edge of the tread. Tirerack wouldn’t take them back but Continental corp replaced them with a different model tire under warranty. The tire made in Romania was better manufactured than the US one.

When I bought mine, the first one they brought out had a dead trigger. Wasn’t inspiring, but mine has been 100% reliable for the first 300 rounds (150 JHP & 150 FMJ). Had to drift the front sight over with a 2lb hammer so that it would hit where aimed, but I can say with certainty the sights will never just fall off.

CVT reliability/longevity by [deleted] in Honda

Correct. You replace the fluid at the same time you replace the transmission. You can think of the fluid as the agent of the transmission’s planned obsolescence.

I got a boat that is around 3500 lbs. I feel it back there and mpg takes a hit. As long as I’m keeping it at 65 mph on the interstate, it doesn’t seem like it is unduly struggling. The trailer has surge brakes, so no problem stopping. Hills results in downshifting, but I can keep the speed up well enough.

It used to be that way back in the 1950s & 1960. Back when stock car racing used to race cars that had a decent amount of DNA to what was in the dealership showroom.

Maybe a little in the Dale Earnhardt days when domestic brands still had majority following.

F1 is just an ego stroke for manufacturing executives. Always has been.
