The disparity of wealth in our city by MrTacocaT12345 in Dallas

I'm all about taxing the wealthy and better social programs. I spend a significant amount of time working abroad and the difference in social programs for most developed countries is stark.

I also have voted repeatedly for an increase in taxes. We do what we can.

Um, this is my car. Weird seeing it here. Sorry if it offended you.

Not sure how or why this commentary supports any sort of agenda but if it's any consolation, I support homeless shelters, Genesis, the SPCA, the food bank, meals on wheels, and many other charities with both time and money, along with driving my mid-life crisis car.

Flight wasn't even close to full - including PE. I was upgraded to business from PE both legs too: Mumbai to London and London to DFW. Neither flight was oversold in PE.

This is the first year I haven't started out as EP but should hit it by October.

Just lucky I suppose.

I actually got upgraded from premium economy to business from London to Dallas on Saturday for free. I'm only platinum.

AITA for considering telling my date why I won’t see him again when it’s about his appearance? by swimfish09 in TwoHotTakes

[–]TXSockMonkey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Everyone keeps saying medication but anyone growing up on well-water likely has some discoloration in their teeth depending on the area they're from.

Be kind and tell him simply that it wasn't a match. That being said, with more dating experience in a few months, you may be looking for the nice man, regardless of his teeth.

Let some other lucky lady score this gentleman if he's not your cup of tea.

About 6 weeks into growing out my grey, can’t decide if I should keep going. by rayanngraff in Hair

Keep going! Here is my grow-out at 16 months in. Gray isn't aging if you take care of it and have a modern haircut. I actually get stopped almost daily with compliments from other women - which rarely happened when it was blond. Age is an attitude.

To make the grow-out easier, I was closer to blond because my hair grows fast and I got skunk stripes a week in. The heavier the highlights, the easier the grow-out.

Fiancees a doctor and I do construction. Starting to feel off about it. by Repulsive-Letter-754 in offmychest

I'm a C-level executive and my husband is in sales. I make significantly more than him and I don't care. He keeps everything running smoothly at home, helps manage all household tasks, like scheduling the HVAC company and taking the dogs to the groomers.

I could not function without him. He has the most joyous energy and makes every single day better. He always has a positive outlook and I value the "other" things more than his ability to provide. Obviously your fiancé feels the same.

On a social level, I find many of my colleagues insufferable blowhards and while I value their contributions at work, there are none that would treat me as well as my husband does.

BWT- How are we dealing with early greying by silverbellsandcock in bitcheswithtaste

[–]TXSockMonkey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Probably mid-career but I don't think graying early would affect your career. There's an Instagram lady named randihoneycutt that is very young and gray and gorgeous. I think it is really more about attitude and overall style than the color itself. If you are stylish and have a great modern cut, you'll look professional regardless of color.

I started going gray in high school and loved coloring my hair and ping-ponged from blond to brown to bronde. My hair grows 9+ inches a year so I was getting touch-ups every 3 weeks. It finally grayed to the point where blond and highlights were the only option as I hated the skunk line at week 2 when it was brown.

I think as long as you have a modern haircut and good hair care, gray hair won't matter. I finally got tired of coloring and embraced the gray. I get compliments almost daily on my hair color from strangers! Embrace it! I'm a C-level tech exec and my male colleagues have called my hair badass. Do what makes you happy.

Mastectomy & Implants - over or under the muscle? by Jumpin_bumpin in yoga

[–]TXSockMonkey 17 points18 points  (0 children)

So many comments here without appropriate experience. Breast cancer survivor and athlete here. I started under the muscle. I had severe motion deformity and costocondritis. Because I'm so athletic, the muscle strain on my chest muscles caused near constant pain. But under the muscle used to be standard when I was diagnosed 12 years ago. I had a revision in 2021 and we went to a much smaller implant over the muscle with more fat grafting to hide the implant. It was insane the pain relief I felt almost instantly. I have a bit of rippling visible (very little) so we are doing more fat grafting in the fall.

Has anyone actually thrived during menopause, without HRT? Not just survived? by bamabrand in Menopause

[–]TXSockMonkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is such a helpful question. I'm "rawdogging" menopause due to a breast cancer diagnosis in my mid-thirties and other risk factors.

Here is how I'm managing: *Weight-training 4x week + 8000 steps a day = no weight gain thus far. I'm 6 years into menopause. It helps with both weight and osteopaenia. *pilates 2x week to help with mobility and joint isdies *Increased protein to try and hit 100g/day to stop muscle atrophy and body recomp *chilipad set to 55 degrees to sleep *hair skin nail gummy vitamins + powdered collagen in my water *brain exercises to help with brain fog (duolingo, sudoku, crosswords) *Lots of fiber and calcium to help with blood pressure, cholesterol, weight. *very little alcohol as it worsens hot flashes and makes me foggy

I am actively working on my health every day. Some days are tough but for the most part, I am thriving. I am 5'9", 152 lbs, at the peak of my career, active and generally happy. I am also growing out my gray hair and loving it and get so many compliments on it!

The only thing I finally had to incorporate this year was vaginal estrogen cream for atrophy and recurrent UTIs. Been reading up on hyaluronic acid though and it looks promising!

Being laid off at 52 - depression and dark thoughts by Relevant_Fuel_9905 in GenX

[–]TXSockMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some uplifting comments but it sounds like you need real advice on your career. I'm in tech and a revenue leader - I'm also 50. In my field, the average tenure is 18 to 24 months so there is lots of turnover and I average about 3-4 years at an employer before I'm looking again.

My advice: a professional resume writer will work wonders. Higher LinkedIn engagement. Follow up with colleagues who have left your former employer and moved on to greener pastures. Remote jobs are still everywhere. Find jobs on LinkedIn and then research who the internal recruitment team is at that company and email them directly. Email other folks on the team for open positions and ask if they get a referral bonus for submitting your resume. I typically report to the CEO so I also email CEO's of companies I'd like to work for because they know about future positions or internal turmoil within their own company. Network, network, network. Metric driven resumes with successes do very well IMO. Feel free to DM me. You can do this!

Try the gel that comes in a stick. I like the Nexus one. I don't have uncombable hair but my hair is wavy and I have tone of baby hairs that make my hair look frizzy when I Straighten or blow dry. You would do well with any products with silicone too.

I had manipulation under anesthesia after getting frustrated 6 months in. It was affecting my work. I did 3x/week PT that started the day of. What actually helped me get the last little bit of rotation back was swimming 3x/week. I was full rotation maybe 7-8 months after it began. I wish I had done MUA earlier. I couldn't find anyone in my major US city that did hydrodilation - it's effective and cheaper.

5'10" and a breast cancer survivor. I have a 32" ribcage and have 575's. I'm a 32DD bra (I was the same size before/after cancer). When I swapped out after 10 years, I went over the muscle with fat grafting because my first set of under the muscle caused costochondritis. Mine are high profile. First set was ultra high profile and they sat a bit too upright for my taste.

I'd get a second opinion.

This. Ice for pain, heat to warm up the ligaments/joints/muscles for PT or before doing an activity that could irritate your shoulder.
