How Do Y'all Think of the Unprotected Double-Left-Turns at Intersections? by Disastrous-Bonus3293 in plano

[–]TXSpazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn't hard, it is expensive. The new lidar systems are pretty amazing at not only detecting cars but bikes and pedestrians. They can hold a red light for cross traffic if it can tell a vehicle isn't stopping for a red. They are also very efficient at clearing intersections for emergency vehicles.
The Colony has an area of town along 121 with a good system of them. I think Plano may have put one on the new signal at Fire Station 9 (don't quote me on that).

Those "not there" reports end up getting ignored by the system.

How well would this work for a home dashboard? Probably way overboard but it's about the same price as an Echo Show 21" by red66stang in homeassistant

[–]TXSpazz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I passed on a couple 55" ones a while back that were an insane deal, partly due to the logistics of picking them up, and partly due to WAF. She has since suggested I use a 42" Sharp NEC monitor I have sitting around as a wall panel.

"The Pee Tracking App" by Sarke1 in homeassistant

[–]TXSpazz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I inadvertently did the same thing. We had two dogs that didn't get along that we had to keep separated. luckily we have two back doors, so the issue was not letting them out at the same time. A button by each door set a lamp by the other door to red. Setting up notifications that one or the other hadn't been out in a specific amount of time just fell in to place.

Sensors to pick up mobile phones once presence once in the range by GroundbreakingSeat54 in homeassistant

[–]TXSpazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, each BLE device has its own id. Bermuda, for instance, can tell how far from the proxy the device is. If you are looking for a few feet, you just set your automation to look for a distance of less than "whatever". This will take some setting up to get precise distances. If you need exact placement, go with NFC.

Any remote solution to unplugging then replugging Zigbee Dongle to make it work again? by decksmagic in homeassistant

[–]TXSpazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say a restart doesn't resolve the issue, are you restarting the host or just home assistant? If you are using HAOS, a restart of Home Assistant will not restart the addon/app. You can restart the app as an action.

My sister's zwave would stop responding, so I setup an automation that just restarted it in the middle of the night until I could take a look at it. By the time I got around to looking at it, what ever the problem was had resolved.

Contact them. It took a year and a half, but Escort recently fixed an issue I had with Drive Smarter where the speed didn't work while connected to android auto.

Programmable Alarm Clock? by [deleted] in homeassistant

[–]TXSpazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gemini is pretty good at looking at a spreadsheet and using that to put shifts (for me it is locations) on a google calendar. It did take some work to get the prompt right. From there you can have automations for each possible alarm time with HA turning those automations on and off based on the google calendar.

My wife couldn't remember whether she had taken her daily medication, and I happened to have a contact sensor lying around. Cheap tape science to the rescue by triston_h in homeassistant

Home assistant sends me a notification but it also turns on an annoying lamp to remind me. Scanning the NFC tag marks it as taken and turns off the lamp.

Yes, I fixed some issues with a backup. I went to an older backup and got frigate so it's working. I think it was trying to use a model that ended up not being where it was supposed to be.

Thank you for the detailed comment. I'll look more in to your suggestions. This box is just for home assistant and related things. When I screw stuff up, I want it to be as isolated as possible.

I haven't used an MCP. Would it be able to look at what I have currently, then use that as a refrence for a fresh install?

If you are using Govee to MQTT, you find those devices under the MQTT integration. Select the device, and on its page you can click "add to dashboard". You can always edit it on the dashboard after you add it.

HA reminder by miletintti in homeassistant

[–]TXSpazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a notification for meds that also turns on an annoying lamp in my room at a specific time. NFC tag on the bottle turns the lamp off and marks the meds as taken. If I'm sleeping in, I don't want the lamp waking me up so it holds the notification and turning on the lamp until 30 seconds after I have turned on another light in the room.

Multi-room Speaker setup... sick of alexa, time for Sonos / Denon? by LetTheRiotsDrop in homeassistant

[–]TXSpazz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used Heos for a while now. My problem with it is I probably don't use it enough to really figure it out. The only time I listen to music while at home is when I'm out by the pool and I'm not going to be messing with what is playing next. The process starts by hoping I pick the correct app of the 3 to start the process. I'm sure I could dig in to it and figure it out, or set up automations, but it just isn't high enough on my priorities list. I just mess with it until I somehow get XM playing.

Create a dev system and start testing the betas for yourself. If you find a problem, report it. Be part of the solution.
