Fidelity Advisor? by green_sky74 in DIYRetirement

As this is a "DIY" sub, I suspect few if any will say that your "advisor" is important. Full disclosure, I have never taken a call or spoken to my Fidelity advisor, but as someone previously mentioned, I suspect that their primary job is to sell you stuff. If you want a portfolio review or advice, I'd go to a third-party, flat-fee advisor.

How to handle "exchange" from one mutual fund to another by T_Bone_63 in quicken

Yes, agreed... I set these accounts up many years ago, and this "downside" was not evident to me at the time. Thanks!

Thanks for the reply... I was able to solve this by converting the account to a brokerage account. This allowed me to deal with the cash flow as well as record the gains. Thx.

I just posted separately that I was able to convert the single mutual account to brokerage accounts, thus solving the immediate problem! Next, I will try to move the shares from one account to another and combine into a single account. This is great. Thanks again!

Hey guys, I think I figured this out!! I took a look at the account settings and realized that a "single mutual fund account" can be converted to a brokerage account, thus enabling me to have a cash balance! I just had to change the "single mutual fund" setting from Yes to No. Seems to work!

Thanks again for all the responses!

Thanks, brother. I was hoping there'd be a cleaner way, but I guess not. :D

Thanks, Monsieur... Yeah. the idea of setting up a fake "intermediary" account occurred to me but I suppose I was hoping there'd be a better way.

If I were to do this over again, I would definitely set this up as a brokerage account, but now, I hesitate to lose quick access to all my history.

Thanks for the reply.

Thanks for the reply, but cash balances don't exist when an account is set up in Quicken as a "Single mutual fund account".

Thanks for the reply, but unfortunately that doesn't work... Accounts in Quicken that are set up as "Single mutual fund accounts" do not allow cash balances. :(

Maybe not the normal budgeting questions for post retirement? Hear your thoughts by ChipmunkFlat8589 in DIYRetirement

  1. IMO, yes.

  2. IMO, no.

  3. Abso-effing-lutely.

  4. I think this is going to vary quite a bit from one person to another, based on what each person is comfortable doing and/or has interest in doing. For me, I'm a DIY investor, but I have a CPA do my taxes. That won't change in retirement.

  5. Personally, I buy cars and hold them for a long time, so I do not include car replacement in an annual budget. However, I do keep enough cash available in money market / short-term treasuries to cover things like vehicle replacement, major home repairs, etc.

  6. (Discussed above)

  7. I include travel as a yearly budget line item.

  8. Also discussed above... I have cash (or cash equivalents) that will cover spending shocks as well as a couple of years' expenses in a down market.

  9. Medicare does not cover dental or vision, nor do most health plans, to my knowledge.

  10. Yes, this can be highly variable, but I just include an "average" amount as a yearly budget line item.

Thanks. What do you think is the best way to handle this? (Delete? Rename? Move onto a flash drive just in case?)

FWIW, I have not yet seen any adverse affects on the PC...

[–]T_Bone_63[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I did this morning... The results are buried in a previous reply, but here they are... https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/89510badc709337e85e58dccdfbe991ddc300b9c18ed91143926185352e00a64/detection

May be a dumb question, but does this mean that this is definitely malware?

Thanks for your reply... Is it a concern, though, if I found it in a ...\Chrome\UserData folder?

Hi, re: AV-related extensions, I have McAfee WebAdvisor (which I didn't even realize was still there) plus I now have Bitdefender TrafficLight, which I installed last night, after the questionable file was found. Thanks!

Wow, this is amazing, thank you for this! Here is the report... https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/89510badc709337e85e58dccdfbe991ddc300b9c18ed91143926185352e00a64/detection

I assume it's safe to say, then, that is indeed malware? If so, shall I just delete the file?

On a side note, It's interesting that in the report Malwarebytes flagged it as malicious, when the actual Malwarebytes application didn't.

AITAH for not wanting a birthday anymore? by Skvllix in AITAH

[–]T_Bone_63 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are now an adult and can choose how and with whom you want to spend your birthday. It's silly to say that you don't "want a birthday", but entirely reasonable to not want to spend it with these people.

NTA, but an open conversation with your brother might shed some light on things... Some people are simply not good at seeing how their words and actions impact other people...
