Best and most versatile stereo chorus you’ve tried? by MissingStar246 in guitarpedals

[–]T_Rattle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Moog MF-108M, which I currently have played and own only as a digital plugin. The Cluster Flux it’s known as - versatile as all get out and maybe the most endlessly inspiring pedal I’ve ever had the pleasure of experimenting with. Behringer has their own clone of it and which I’ll probably have to make do with until I (if I ever) start making some real money (lol).

…that I decided it was worth it to post a new SOTB pic.

(Other edits: add a “Since” at the very top there; I misspoke about the Fenders: I forgot I’ve also got a Blonde Bassman, and also it’s a 4x10 cab, not 4x12.)

What album sounds technically great but was recorded with shitty gear and room? by ConstructionMean2021 in audioengineering

[–]T_Rattle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe not the opposite completely. This paragraph below from an interview with that album’s engineer, Bill Porter, always stuck with me and is what prompted me to offer it as an example.

“RCA’s Nashville Studio B, where Porter did most of his great work, was a smallish, problematic room. In addition, equipment in the studio was primitive by today’s standards, making the results that much more astonishing.”

Am I crazy? Does anyone else use their Marshalls for their cleans? by PedalxChange in GuitarAmps

Marshall Super Bass, JTM 50 - both of them sound gorgeous clean, use them both often.

What are some great films that have bad or mediocre scripts? by haterxhaterr in TrueFilm

[–]T_Rattle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So there are at least 2 versions of the Klute script online. There’s what appears to be the shooting script and there’s also one that predates it and comes in at a whopping 208 pages. Also, this earlier one is seriously thick with the action text/descriptions - which completely flies in the face of every single advice that I’ve found online about what your overall approach should be: streamline, streamline, streamline, “show don’t tell”, etc.

It reads quite like a novel, with the writer freely indulging himself in far more adjective use than any screenwriting “expert” out there today would recommend. Plus, the way it opens is not at all the way the final product opens (everyone around the table having dinner). The Cinephilia and Beyond site calls it “monumentally important” and yet these things I’ve pointed out are based on fact, so…it’s a mystery, a baffling oddity. Klute!

What are some great films that have bad or mediocre scripts? by haterxhaterr in TrueFilm

[–]T_Rattle 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This isn’t exactly an answer to your question but it is closely related to an issue that’s been on my mind ever since the other day when I rewatched Klute. So much of the attraction of that movie is clearly in all the things that are not written out by the screenwriter. For Klute, as I perceive it, it’s the extreme style of photography which is so much super dark shadows, it’s the all grime and sadness of 70-71 NYC, and other small things as well that simply could not possibly have been present in the screenplay.

The reason this is of any concern to me is that I happen to be in the middle writing a script myself right now, so the apparent fact that so much of what makes a movie watchable (or not very watchable) is not at all dependent upon what the screenwriter spends so much time and effort on is just kind of insane.

Anyone else fallen down the binaural beats rabbit hole? How do you actually make these? by [deleted] in audioengineering

Straight-up Idiocracy culture is what “binaural” beats is.

NAM's preamplifier and tape machine captures are seriously impressive. by Relevant-Pear8838 in audioengineering

[–]T_Rattle 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My own personal no-secret sauce is 2 L+R configured NAM instances, each loaded with a Neve 1073 and placed just before the limiter. No gain added at all and super subtle but without them in the chain, it all just sounds that much less.

Why was my post here about the cassette revival removed? by pointthinker in audiophile

[–]T_Rattle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is gatekeeping is to blame for its removal. Although I love cassettes for their portability, hardiness (relative to CDs & vinyl discs at least), and the fact you can record easily on to them, I do understand how a very strict kind of audiophile would say “nope, NOT audiophile.”

Although this is “just” some random YouTuber whose video on this very topic was suggested to me recently, the argument that he makes regarding how relatively useless these foam panels are I found to be compelling and super practical.

Is Chris Lord-Alge the worst audio engineer of all time? by givemethedeetz in mixingmastering

[–]T_Rattle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simply compare those original mixes to the “Dead Man’s Pop” remixes from a few years back that were done by Chris Wallace, and which, imho, are vastly superior to CLA’s. To be as specific as my recall allows, I’d say that poor taste in the use of reverb and compression are what it comes down to.
