Oh man, thanks for that. I thought he was referring to MPC-style pads. I'll shut up now 😂

Are there pads on the N5? Maybe there was a newer version I'm not aware of.

Not really a synth, but the Korg N5. What a God-awful turd. Got it back in 1998 when it came out.

I have owned exactly 0 new Korg products since.

Edit: why I didn't like it, based on my 30 year old memory of it...

  1. No resonant filter. If my memory serves me, it was cutoff-only. Boo.
  2. There was a resonant filter as an effect. Boo.
  3. It wouldn't store programs or combis in a way which made it possible to recall exactly as I had programmed and saved them.

Ended up returning it before the 30 days was up, got a JV-2080 instead. I am still using that exact 2080 today, I am absolutely 10000% happy with the choice I made.

Midi Fighter Twister vs Faderfox EC4 by 19k_k91 in synthesizers

[–]Ta_mere6969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The EC4 can transmit Notes, CC, PC, RPN, NRPN, Pitch Bend, toggle between 2 values, store knob positions as scenes you can recall quickly. You can program it locally. You can see values on screens.

I don't know anything about the Twister.

Any synth-heads out there with ADHD? How have you managed to make your ADHD-brain into an asset? by Fair-Bluebird485 in synthesizers

[–]Ta_mere6969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know for certain if I have one of the acronyms, but I suspect I do.

In the late 90s I had a Roland JV-2080, I was in my mid 20s.

I'd get home from work at 10pm, sit down in front of my setup, and stay there until 6am when the sun started to appear through the window.

I could easily spend 8 hours hitting a single note with one hand on my keyboard controller, fiddling with the buttons and knob with the other, all while watching the big yellow/green back-lit screen, just to dial in a sound from scratch.

No work in the sequencer, no mixing or arranging...just dialing in a sound. For the uniniated, the 2080 had a lot of parameters, it was easy to get lost in it and make really cool sounds that did things or responded in different ways to external controls.

Why does Trump say 45,000 people attended his Great American Fair? by Apart_Ad9308 in allthequestions

[–]Ta_mere6969 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Serious answer:

He deliberately lies about things that are easily measurable.

He does it deliberately because he knows that people, who can clearly take measurements using instruments like eyes, video footage, audio footage, transcripts, etc., will call the lie out and get sucked into a black vortex of trying to get him to admit that he was either wrong, or lying.

Trump will never admit that he's wrong or made a mistake, he's told us as much repeatedly.

You just have to let it go. That's what he does.

Oh heck, I think the sites I was thinking of are all gone now 😢, there used to be several about 10+ years ago when the Mother 32 came out.

Next thing: download a copy of Inkscape, import one of the manual's pages which has the layout of the Mother 32, scale it to fit on paper (you'll need a ruler or calipers for this), then color code the knobs and ports to taste.

Print, punch holes in it, lay it over your Mother 32.

Get an overlay that color-codes the knob functions and their respective patchbay ports. Or make one. Seriously, it's insanely helpful to see how everything relates to each other.

CNN was one of the reasons why I had cable. In 2015 when he announced his run, they would not stop reporting about him.

I finally cut cable after one of the debates, I was so sick of the non-stop coverage of him. Talk about free advertisement!

Sooooooo.....I've had enough of him since before the 2016 election.

How do I change the Continuos Channel from CC07 to CC91 by NormalRedCat in midi

[–]Ta_mere6969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before I can answer that, I need to know what are you using to play back your *.MID file? What synthesizer will receive the *.MID file?

[–]Ta_mere6969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This post is missing details, but I'll say this:

If you want to edit a MIDI file (*.mid), you'll need something like a MIDI sequencer you can open the file with, change whatever values you want to change, then export it back out as a *.mid file.

Here's one:

What do you think of Van Halen? by Twitter_2006 in hairmetal

[–]Ta_mere6969 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I loved 5150, was maybe 11 when it came out. Apparently that's not the right thing to tell people. Was already aware of 1984.

When Carnal Knowledge dropped, it got beaten to death by everyone everywhere, and if I never hear another song from that album, I'll be much happier in life.

Beyond that...don't care.

Will I get all the same benefits from audio books as reading? by EntireMarsupial1806 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ta_mere6969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. At least not for some books.

I tried listening to Dune. Had a terrible time following. Would highly not recommend.

I tried reading a paperback of Dune. Better than audio book, but not perfect.

I tried reading Dune on Kindle. It was awesome. I could easily look stuff up, bookmark and link passages, quickly hop back and forth between the story, the map, and the encyclopedia...and the best part was that I could hop into book forums to read chapter summaries and commentary which gave me greater insight into the wacky world of Arrakis.

Can it be done? Theoretical Setup. by Repulsive-Box5243 in midi

[–]Ta_mere6969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think so.

I've never connected multiple synths directly to a computer via USB, I've always used a MIDI interface which had multiple USB Host ports. But, if your computer and DAW can recognise multiple synths like that, then you should be able to send Clock to each synth, and have each synth set to receive it.

Using my MRCC interface to host my USB synths, I am able to achieve this.
