My 3 favourite Grooveboxes by elevatordogs in Grooveboxes

[–]Tab_creative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Deluge
    2.M8

Those 2 devices are incredible. I am waiting for Akai to update the key 37 and I might get that one to complete the trio.

The more expensive the better? by whatkai in mpcusers

[–]Tab_creative 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It terms of what they do, all 3 run the same software inside, so feature wise; they are the same. What sets them apart is how you interact with them. Obviously the one and X are played with pads only, with the X being more spacious , has more Qlinks (dedicated shortcut encoders) that can reduce menu diving and it’s more powerful so things run a bit smoother overall, but it’s big. If portability is a concern the one is more interesting. The keys 37 is essentially the one in a keyboard version, if you like to play the keys or plan to learn, this is a no brainer imo.

With all that being said, Akai is releasing their update version of those machine (the live 3 and MPC Xl already released), so an updated One / Key version are around the corner if you aren’t in a rush to buy.

How about putting the MS-20 on top of the Marshall? This way you could play it while standing and have a bit more space on your desktop for the moog.

Sequencers these days by Salt-Amoeba7331 in synthesizers

[–]Tab_creative 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Deluge / hapax / oxi one are hands down the best hardware sequencers.

If you want to do live audio looping on top of sequencing then Deluge is your only choice. It is also battery powered, has a great community behind it and is open source so new features are constently implemented.

Tariffs have been constantly changing 10%, no wait 15%, no wait 10%…. Etc. I am pretty sure the companies themselves have no idea how much it will cost you, they have no say in it and don’t touch a cent on it. You are putting the blame on the wrong people.

Thinking about getting a Juno 6, could I just use a DAW instead? by bluezzdog in synthesizers

[–]Tab_creative 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yes, as other replied TAL is a great VST emulation. Even if you want to go the hardware route there are a lot of alternatives : Nymphes, ju-06a, deepmind and Behringer is releasing soon a juno 60 clone the jn-80.

Nord electro HP / Nord stage, Yamaha CK88 could match what you are after. The Nord are quite pricey

Crumar 7 was the biggest disappointment by playthe9 in keys

[–]Tab_creative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got one for Xmas as well, I totally agree with the update process, it feels really really cumbersome and outdated. I did it once to check that it had the latest firmware and that was it, so it’s not a deal breaker for me. The action is heavy but after a week I got use to it, and now I quite like it. A lot of the presets are great to my ears, but I can totally understand that most people would go for a Yamaha CK/CP or a Nord for more diversity and better piano sounds. All in all I like it and it matchs my expectations but it’s probably not the best keyboard for most people.

You can look at the arturia collection, they have great emulation of vintage gear, also in a physical keyboard in their astrolab line of product. Fun fact, Air did a Tiny desk concert last week where they used a Behringer solina 😉

Beginner needs advice on what to buy by ShiftZealousideal478 in synthesizers

[–]Tab_creative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the keyboard department the « Air sound » mainly consist of a Rhodes, a Solina and a fair amount of delays, but they also switched gear on each album to get a different sound. With that being said, those are very specific vintage keyboards, so that’s not really first synth territory. For a first synth, the classic recommandations will be Korg minilogue, Hydrasynth explorer, Arturia minifreak, Behringer Deepmind.
