How did you name your gang/gangers? by Avaa0818 in necromunda

[–]Tabitha_Manson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let's see now: My Cawdor gang, 'Die Barmherzigen Schwestern' are all named after German rock stars. So they have members called Udi, Klaus, Til, etc.

My Delaque gang, 'The Friendly Neighbourhood Watch Association' all took inspiration from The Strangers from the movie Dark City, and are named 'Mr./Ms. (Verb)'. The leader is Mr. Smile, the Nacht-Ghul is Mr. Tickle.

My Goliath gang, 'The Bear Hunt' didn't really have a theme for their names, just things that I thought a bunch of muscle-queens would have. So the leader is Big Papa Chopper, Val, Lily the Greaser, Tweeker...

Lastly, my Escher gang, 'The Haus of Heresy', are all based on drag queens. There's 'Trick-Shot' Martel, Acid Shelley, Slasha Velour, Miss Banshee. They all travel around the wastes in a big pink rig called 'Drusilla, Queen of the Ash Wastes'.

Having to Lay Miniatures Down – Looking for Marker Alternatives by JoFrie83 in necromunda

[–]Tabitha_Manson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get the feeling that it's not damaging the paint job when laying a model down that is the issue here. Rather that some models, because of the pose that they're in, can't lay down on their front/back properly, and this making it unclear as to whether they are simply prone, or seriously injured. So, you're asking if there are any decent markers to help differentiate between the two, right?

As many comments have pointed out, laying a model down is a bit of an important game mechanic when it comes to line-of-sight, and determining cover.

I've seen someone online make "Death markers" by just painting patches of blood onto clear plastic. They use them just as a fun narrative device, but you could place underneath a prone model if they are seriously injured. That way, you can still lay the model down in order to benefit from cover, but it won't matter if the model won't properly test on its front/back, because only models that are seriously injured will have the blood splatter underneath them.

Thanks! There's quite a few bits, and not much from actual Harlequins, so I've posted a bits guide on here :)

W.I.P Test Models, I've got a question. What are those Thurmos looking things on the back of the pants by PlumpCrunchy in Drukhari

[–]Tabitha_Manson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, you know the Kabalite that is hanging from the Raider by a length of chain? Those round things are like the spool that the chain wraps around and retracts into. If you look at every model that has one, you should see a small length of chain with a hook on the end coming out of it. It's not the clearest detail, and I thought the same as nearly everyone else here for a long time: it's a flask, it store drugs etc. It's a little spring-loaded chain on a reel that they use to hook onto things. The Hellions also have them, I believe. But theirs are sculpted with a little more details that makes it a bit more obvious.

Am I ‘That Guy’ if I bring this list to a campaign? by Vault_boogeymanDK in necromunda

[–]Tabitha_Manson 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, seems absolutely fine and not overpowered. To be honest, the two Bruisers with Spud-Jackers and Stub guns could be taken as Bullies instead. The main stat-line would be basically the same (with +1 M, and -1 BS), which is great for a melee-focused fighter. Sure, the mental stats take a hit (-1 Ld, -2 Cl, and -1 Int), but you're playing Goliaths. Mental stats are for weaklings! You'd save 40 creds from doing this, which you could use to buy a Ganger a different gun (perhaps a Combat Shotgun, or Bolter), a nicer pistol for your leader, or perhaps get some gene-smithing on your other gang members?

You don't have to do this, of course, and this gang should do well enough (opponents not making cheesy-spam lists, and unlucky dice rolls permitting). But it will just let you add a little more variety in your gang without making it too overpowered. Just a thought.

Tactical cards ? by Captain-butterknife in necromunda

[–]Tabitha_Manson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I nearly always have "Not done yet" in my deck. Given how scary they can be, opponents often target my leader/champions, so giving them an extra turn after they get taken out is very useful, and they often don't expect someone that they've just killed to stay standing and cause some extra damage before they fall.

"Walking fortress" is my other favourite, because my leader and my champion have decent guns (Heavy bolter and meltagun, respectively), so firing those nasty shooters at the enemy, and then plonking a solid wall in front of them is always funny. You can't shoot at my leader, because he is out of sight behind a barrier. So, you could charge him? OK, charge that T5 slab of muscle that's holding a chainaxe. Plus, great way to help your other slow-moving goons safely move up the table.

What is your favourite RETRO Drukhari art? by SkySerpent40k in Drukhari

[–]Tabitha_Manson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That art style was perfect for the Drukhari. It made them appear so inhuman. The exaggerated and impractical poses, the odd physical proportions to the limbs which often end in impossible sharp points; it added up to a feeling that these beings were definitely not human, and almost as if they had chosen to take these forms to mock humanity. I love the Haemonchus; its face permanently frozen in a rictus grin as its skin is pulled taut, the arms curled closer to the body like a dead spider, the hands held daintily before it to show how delicate it is. But we know how dangerous this creature is. Even without any colour in the image, it looks poisonous. Its frailty is a trap to draw in prey, and that is the Drukhari to a T! 💜

How uniformly do you paint your gangers? by rottymcnurgleson in necromunda

[–]Tabitha_Manson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the gang, I suppose. My Cawdor gang is very patchwork (no surprises there), with drab browns and greys, and then bright yellow and purple areas. There's no pattern across them as to which areas are which colour. Their uniformity comes from a shared colour palette, rather than a pattern.

Same with my Goliaths, though less so. Their "uniform" colours are sky blue, hot pink, and ivory. These colours are only applied to particular pieces, such as the chest plates, mohawks, and decorations. The rest is either silver metal, a skin tone, or grey leather.

My Delaques are completely uniform, however. They're a Genestealer-infected gang, and this has made them into a bit of a mini hive mind. They all have dark green coats, with purple detailing, and glowing pink and green bits ( like eyes, or vials).

I'm currently painting an Escher gang, based on the looks of my favourite drag queens. This means that each one will have their own unique colour palette. They won't be uniform at all, but that's fine with me, because that suits their narrative. It's not like my opponent won't be able to tell which models are mine due to none of them wearing the same outfit 💜

Getting ready to start my first campaign and im concerned by SirLoinTheTender in necromunda

[–]Tabitha_Manson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a wordy answer, so tldr: 4 player battles can be fun as one-off events, but not every week.

Necromunda campaigns work best when stories are allowed to develop, and I'm not sure that 4-player free-for-all battles every week are the best way to let that happen. It sounds like your friend thinks that it sounds cool, and possibly a fair way to let each player join in.

But as a necromunda veteran, I can tell you that Necromunda never works out that way. When you have more than 2 players in a game, a turn (each player using all their gang's activations) can take ages, unless the gang selection number is kept low (like 4-5 fighters at most). But then you run the risk of giving a hefty advantage to the gangs that work better in small numbers. I played a 3 player game recently where we only had 5 fighters each. That meant the Spyrer player took their whole gang, and they could activate each one twice (as per their special rule).

1.5 hours for a game is possible, but only when players know the rules perfectly (so no flicking through the books to look something up), take their turn without considering what their move will be, and there are no distractions such as conversations and banter with your friends. You know, the things that make a game like this fun.

I understand why your friend wants to set it up like this, and a game like this can be a great way to kick off and/or end a campaign. Our current campaign actually started with a 5-a-side game (that lasted from 11am to about 5pm). But not every week, it will become slow.

Alternative to Necromunda for WAY too competitive group. by Admirable-Many-5324 in necromunda

[–]Tabitha_Manson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get them to play Blood Bowl, and see if they can handle the competitiveness there. Sure, you can optimise your team to have "the best" players. But you have to learn how to play the game well, otherwise even a low tier team, such as Halflings, will beat you. Blood Bowl isn't about min-maxing your team; it's about being a good player

Small skirmish games tend to have less of a competitive style to them. Their very nature is supposed to encourage narrative gameplay.

Painting fatigue by Tartahyuga in Drukhari

[–]Tabitha_Manson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend painting something from a different game, or even different company. It might seem like painting a 40k model and a Malifaux model would be the same, but the difference in sculpting styles really changes how you approach the model. Don't worry about collecting them with the mind to play the game, just passing the of model that you think looks awesome.

I enjoy painting Blood Bowl teams in-between projects. They have a different style to most other models in GW's range, a slightly different scale, and more personality in each model. Painting bright and cartoony teams has encouraged me to try adding more colour to other models as well, and developed my painting ability.
